Super Rugby Au Round 9 - Rebels vs Waratahs, 7:15pm Sat 29th August

Just found on Super Rugby website that the next tiebreaker after points difference is most tries in all matches. I assume that is the same for Super Rugby AU.

I think people seriously overrate the Rebels playing personnel when assessing Wessels. Just my opinion but the Tahs have a better roster.

From the starting sides, only Uelese, Phillip, Naisarani, To'omua and Korobiete would make the Tahs side.

Couldn't like this more. Maybe slide in Magnay over Walton. But the Rebels roster isn't any better than the other 3.

So assuming tries scored are next tiebreaker after points difference:
If Rebels win by 4 or more points Rebels make finals.
If Rebels win by 2 points or less, draw or lose, Waratahs make the finals.

If Rebels win by 3 points and score less than 5 tries Waratahs go through.
If Rebels win by 3 points and score 6 tries or more the Rebels go through.

If Rebels win by 3 points and score 5 tries onto the next tiebreaker.

Next tiebreaker: Highest aggregate difference of total tries for versus tries scored against from all matches.
Last tiebreaker: Coin toss

Really enjoyed that game, even if I was a little underwhelmed by the Rebels. Feel they should be better. A little disappointed at all the what if's as a Tah's supporter across our games. We've had some odd calls that have lead to some interesting inflection points.

I thought Tepai had a good first outing. Loved the punch he brought and Walton had a cracker of a game.

Dempsey looked to be enjoying himself again and was in amongst it all tonight. Hooper was everywhere.

For the Rebels To'omua was classy and Isi stepped up after a iffy start. I actually really liked what I saw of Orr again and feel like he's been one of the standouts for the Rebels this comp. I found Deegan lackluster and Kellaway has really lost that spark he had right back at the beginning of SuperRugby earlier this year.

Was good to see Maddocks play with a little more confidence, though I feel he botch that try when he was held up. Overall a lot to like as a Tah's supporter.

Wessels needs to go. He has had so many experienced players and they have gone nowhere. He has had the team to win it and keeps failing.

I like the rebels but they need a better coach

I agree.

Wessels is coaching a good squad into obscurity.

I don’t like the Tahs, but I feel absolutely nothing for the Rebels.

Scooter mate, I think you are spending a lot of time trying to work out a lot of permutations I doubt will happen. At this stage you've got to think the Rebels will be going though.

Either way, I'll be cheering the Force on :)

Well done tahs. Some of the kids really stood up.
Tepai really got over the advantage line and defended the ruck well. Great to see and definitely should keep another run.

We really need decent locks but I guess it's wait and see.

I have a point to raise.

And I'll see your point and raise it by a bonus

I will make a bonus and call out your point

Fairly good point there a real bonus

Has anyone noticed how super consistent Uelese has become at his throwing?

Yeah Rebels lineout was a shining light tonight, against the hyped Simmons led Tahs one. Uelese nailed his throws and was good around the park. He'll be in the Wallabies squad.

I thought he got away with a few crooked throws personally. Heck that one out the back to To'omua was crooked onto the Tahs side of the lineout.

Not just a few. What is it with Aussie hookers at the moment? Just throw the ball where it's meant to go, for Christ sake.

Penny's presser was "Cheika-esque". Simmo looked uncomfortable.

Didn't like the tenor of his thinking.

It won’t come down to a coin toss. That being said, If the rebels score 5/6 tries next week and only win by 3 or even lose they wouldn’t deserve their spot in the finals.

Ruling on crooked throws is one of those real areas of inconsistency, even at test level. They call a few, but let a heap go. You just have to ride your luck I guess.

Horton has missed a couple over the last two weeks as well after being near perfect prior to that - although I am prepared to cut him some slack for last weekend.
