Wallabies 2020

On that, would love the following players to be sprinkled across the the matches one or two at a time on the bench for 15 minutes at the end:

Pone - haha big boi run.

Big Pone should be nowhere near a gold jumper this year, or next. He's incredibly green and palpably unfit. 23 year old pops should rarely be picked, especially in their debut seasons.

Force and Waratahs players chosen to stay in camp for potential Wallabies inclusion:
Waratahs: Angus Bell, Jack Dempsey, Tom Horton, Harry Johnson-Holmes, Rob Simmons, Ned Hanigan, Lachie Swinton, Michael Hooper, Jake Gordon, Will Harrison, Jack Maddocks, James Ramm.
Force: Kyle Godwin, Feleti Kaitu’u, Brynard Stander

Lee-Warner unlucky to miss out. Tom Robertson And KHunt notable exclusions.

Bell must be there for the development spot, I'd much rather have Robertson against the ABs if there were injuries to other looseheads. I assume Orr or JP Smith will be the third string loosehead.

I don’t think FLW (Fergus Lee-Warner) is Wallabies material. The omission of Robertson is odd, however that is probably a pointer to the loose heads from the remaining squads. They are all pretty good, particularly that the Brumbies have two of them. Harmichael being left out is pretty meh, I’d pick him over Kyle too but it’s a lineball one, neither are frontline contenders, I don’t mind having Godwin hanging around the squad.

Maddocks is clearly the form fullback. I think it will come down to whether Rennie wants the experience up the back, in which case DHP or Hodge will get the gig initially. Maddocks is a good fit for the #23 if that's the case though.

Rennie has been quoted a couple of times recently to the effect that it's time for some of the older Wallabies to be dispensed with to get awsay from the last ten or so years of under-performance. Assuming, that's a correct quote, I'd hazard that DHP could be among those who will miss out along with TK and Simmons. Interesting times ahead indeed.

Not sure what people think about the Locks?

Imo, the locks are pretty well served with Blyth, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Neville, Philip and Lee-Warner. All of them should get a run in the tests, but I think there should always be one of Blyth or LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto). together with one of the other three. I know FL-W has played 6 the last couple of games, but the backrow is overflowing with talent, so he should come into contention for a locking spot.

Why not? He’s very young, has great skills and has already proven himself in test rugby.
He’s only going to get better.

Okay, if you take World XV as best in position or 2nd best then we have a long list of players I consider better than him by a considerable margin already: PSDT, Ollivon, McMahon, Savea etc. They're all not that much older than him and a significant level above, he would have to improve out of sight before I'd choose him over any of them.

Then there's players like Liam Wright and Tom Curry who are younger than him and I think are already better.

Not currently in the top 5 and doubt he'll ever be top 2. I'll very happily eat humble pie of course, would be incredible if he could.

I hadn't caught up with that news before posting Qwerty. But I should also say that I overlooked Trevor Hosea, so hopefully he will come in at FL-W's spot.

Only 3 Force players did, Godwin, Stander and Kaitu'u. All the ones you'd expect from the Tahs made it except a bit surprisingly, Tom Robertson. No Hunt either.

It's not the official squad, Rennie won't even be there. Just a training squad with the S&C coach but given he wasn't picked now it's hard to see FLW (Fergus Lee-Warner) featuring this year.

I take the comments ‘he could be world best’ with a grain of salt. Technically anyone could be - but it’s easier said than achieved.

But I do find it interesting that it remains the view of several guys who have coached at top level and know the players well that his best position is 6. I would have thought it would be as a lock.

It's strange as LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) does not have the lateral dynamics I would expect in a 6. I guess it's how you want to play the position. He is a 4 for me.

I'm really disappointed to see Andrew Ready left out. I thought he was surely in our top 3. Showed good work ethic to force his way into the starting XV, and has been our most consistent scrum/lineout/maul hooker. He probably fairly could feel very hard done by.

But that's a lot of players from the Waratahs considering there form.

Glad to see Godwin back in the mix.

FLW (Fergus Lee-Warner) and Ready deserve a sniff though.

I have watched Rennie talk rugby theory (clips on youtube), and I am incredibly excited to see what he can do with the squad.
