COVID-19 Stuff Here

Dismal Pillock

When this batty bullshit started in January I was the most gung ho cnut about. Lock the fucker down, no one goes outside etc. FFS I haven been outside ONCE without my mask on this year. And even then I've only been outside to go to goddamn work.

But the strain is clearly less virulent here on the Pitcairns than say, the seppo one................. and hindsight is a haughty bitch............ but I'm starting to think fuck this shit. It's too much. I don't know anyone who died, let alone anyone who even got sick, let alone anyone who has even been TESTED for the stupid thing. Haven't even heard of any pricks who know anyone who knows anyone who has even been effected by it. Of course, they might be keeping it hush hush but ffs. It's like it just exists on telly for me. And for what. To arsefuck everyones life to Valhalla and back.

I think you have it backwards, mate. Japan's mortality rate is ~12/Mn of population c.f. Australia's 33 & USA's mind-boggling 600+ BECAUSE of lockdown, masks, etc. If Japan were dumb enough to emulate e.g. Texas they'd soon be losing people at a similar rate.

And yet there are parts of Europe and South America where their mortality per million is higher than the US. The Italians are interesting in that it was real bad there at the beginning and really the wake up call for the world. You look at them now and there is a second wave, but the death rate has dropped dramatically. The CFR peaked at over 20% in June (7 day rolling average) and was less than 1% yesterday.

Treatments for the very sick, steroids for those on ventilators, are becoming more efficient. Helps with the breathing and without them more people would die apparently.

We were looking to drive (bought a new car) the Barossa is a tad too far

In NSW I highly recommend Orange if you haven't done a lot of the wineries there.

Mudgee is also good and if regional Victoria opens up, the King Valley is good (and a fair chunk closer to Sydney).

This is part of the logic of euro opening up infections are not leading to the same level hospitalisations

Does this also perhaps indicate that the true numbers of cases during the first wave were massively higher and now it's closer to the actual numbers and hence a much lower number of deaths?

Possibly, also who is getting it, like in the states, over 12,000 colleges students infected, no hospitalisations, and that in a lot these areas, the at risk have already been killed

Our preference is the Yarra Valley and stay at Healesville (The Healesville Pub is bloody good, as is four pillars distillery, unfortunately White Rabbit closed when they were sold to the dark side) -

The Four Pillars distillery is a must do..............

As for the Healesville Pub - had a decent pub lunch there ten years ago, but a few years back we had dinner there and my wife got really bad food poisoning, made worse as it was her birthday and we were supposed to have a nice lunch the following day at Oakridge.

And there wasn't much on offer at the White Rabbit brewery when it was around so you're not missing out there.

All that was needed was a few bucket of White Rabbit Dark and I was a happy camper, never eaten at the Healesville pub restaurant, only in the public bar, it was good food and a very good wine list

covid test data death rate qanon.

right got the on-topic stuff out of the way!

great little wineries abounds in the Valley. a mate hires a minibus for his birthday each year and we go touring the smaller wineries, tucked away from the main highway. always come back with a lighter wallet, a full bladder and a bit of a mystery when the cartons of plonk start arriving on the doorstep a few weeks later.

Stones is one of the picks of the bunch, Tarrawarra also great. Levantine Hill would be a really top place for lunch but is beyond my budget!

I worked at Levantine Hill for their opening day, can't comment on the food but the owner is a bit of a muppet.

NZ on the cusp of single-digit cases outside the border, and well on track to complete a second bout of elimination. More importantly, it means Auckland will likely have restrictions lifted next week and the shiny new look Wallabies will get the complete Eden Park deathmatch experience.

I think QLD's decision to open NSW border on 01/11 is a bit unnecessarily cruel. The 28 day period already seems overkill and by their own rules they should open up a week earlier than the 1st, weird coincidence that it's the day after the election.
