Reds 2021

Ruan was heading to the MLR i thought? Which is a shame, because he is certainly a level above the MLR and deserves to be scrummaging and representing at a higher level. Goes for both of them.

Now I’m pissed. On the Rebels 2021 thread is seems that Carter Gordon’s younger brother Mason is also heading to the Rebels. How in the hell can we lose 2 of the best up and coming 10’s in Queensland. There is no one else coming through with near the talent of these two. We lose Noah then Reesjan then Isaac Lucas then Gordon and now his brother. What the f@#k is going on here with securing a decent flyhalf. I don’t know what the JOC (James O'Connor) deal is but surely he will be looking at an overseas big money deal in the next couple of years and who have we got coming through. The Brumbies are bragging that they have secured Noah, Reesjan and Bayley for 2021. Waratahs have locked up Will Harrison but Ben Donaldson could be wanting an opportunity.

The Gordons, Isaac Lucas, Noah and Reesjan are all Piccone players. QRU need to be building bridges quickly with this outfit. We might be looking promising going into 2021 but that’s going to be short lived if this Piccone clan keep picking up the cream of the crop. F@#k.

I don't think there are bridges that can be built to overcome opportunity and salary.

These talented kids have the option of waiting for an unknown period of time (JOC (James O'Connor) will be signed for as long as he wants to stay) behind a Wallaby player for less money that they may get at another Super team or overseas.

They are all one injury away from not having a professional rugby career so it is an easy choice to take the money and opportunity to get on the field.

Potentially they won't be long with the Rebels/Brumbies and will end up in Japan if they follow the Piccone blueprint.

I get why two brothers would want to end up at the same place, but how is that going to work if they both play 10?

Can one of them play 12 or 15?

How longs the contract, it’s probable they aren’t even looking that far ahead yet and just see it as a development opportunity alongside his brother, a familiar face to take him under his wing in his first year out of school.

I suppose we can let the Rebels develop both brothers over the next couple of years and bring them back home when we have starting positions for them. Big gamble.

You’d actually think there would be a chance Gordon would start next year with To'omua at 12 - unless takes his sabbatical.

Gordon not even got his super rugby cap yet (I think) so sounds a big call - maybe off the bench first logical first step

Yeah - sorry, I didn’t necessarily mean starting 10 first game - but with Deegan and others departing and from everything I’ve heard about him you’d imagine he’s a chance at some point.

Mason Gordon looked the part and more in his Wests Premier Colts debut today from the bench. I hope the reds at least made a offer. It would be better for Mason development to be playing club rugby in QLD then it would be for him training with the rebels & getting no competitive game time.

When is O’Connor contracted to? Maybe the plan is to keep O’Connor at 10. I’d imagine he is planning to stay until at least the next World Cup. I’d still love to see a young 10 being developed, but in terms of priorities maybe it is just a bit down on our list at the moment.

Thorn and the reds are not as good at finding and holding onto young talent as Mckellar. Especially in the backs. The reds forwards are extremely promising but backs reserves do not run deep, and the ones we have are not (my opinion) the best of the bunch, if you look at wallaby selection and general stats. I know for a fact that the system and environment down in Canberra is amazing. I also know a couple of young very talented players who have changed agents just so the reds will consider them because of this piccone shite.
