Have a Stan subscription, haven’t seen or heard anything about a sports add on yet, went searching on my Stan account yesterday and couldn’t find anything either

Not the best start this close to the season starting

Still a month out, only takes 5 mins to sign up to the new content. I’m not worried, I’m sure they’ll do a season launch once they’ve got product to actually put on there.

Nein's audience on its main channel, no doubt is bigger. Will the rugby be on the main channel?

As I said previously somewhere, the ashes were on gem THE ASHES! in all honesty do you think the rebels v brumbies will be on the main channel in Sydney & Brisbane come week 3? I like the way they are trying to be in font of the game by going down the streaming path but it has to be matched broadcaster & 9 in recent years have been on a massive downward spiral

I signed up for Stan a week ago and got asked about taking up the Sport option.

I haven’t taken it yet, but it seemed like it was up and running.

You mean the series played in England? If it were a series hosted here I can guarantee it would be on the primary channel. Of any network hosting it. As for the Rebels/Brums game being on in Sydney/Brisbane. I don't actually. Nor do I expect the Tahs games to be on 9 Perth. As long as it on 9 Sydney and the main channel from the market from the team they are playing at a minimum.

Analogue TV was shut off over eight years ago, so simply from a viewer perspective........... why would anyone care whether it was on the main channel or not?

Just to add to that, the AFL is only broadcast on 7Mate in Sydney and Brisbane, even when those teams are playing............

And the NRL is only shown on 9Gem in Melbourne, regardless of whether it’s the Storm or not.........

I expect, at best, Super Rugby will only be shown on 9’s main channel in NSW and Qld............

If the Storm can’t get a slot on 9’s main channel in Melbourne, the Rebels have no chance.

Do shows on the alternate channels rate less because they are on an alternate channel, or are they on the alternate channel because they rate less? I think the correlation vs causation argument on this topic can get confusing, this day and age people surf all channels, regardless of whether its the main one or not.

Agree with Slim that Super Rugby wont be on the main channels outside of NSW and QLD, and then even then its yet to be see whether they would put it on the main channel in NSW & QLD. This whole topic is a complex issue because they also want to use the FTA coverage to generate cross-exposure and demand for the Stan Sport platform, so it doesn’t serve them well to hide rugby away and not promote it sufficiently.

Must be trying to hit all the new people signing up, which is good I guess

But you reckon they’d have a tile on the homepage somewhere or something

Not worried about the physical signup, I’m worried about the promo time to try and get some not so rusted fans on board. 5 weeks isn’t a long time from a marketing perspective, you’re missing the boat if you’re waiting a couple of weeks out to start

Maybe because the main channels are the errrr main channels, they get all the publicity and presumably more viewers?

And for those old fogeys who are still paying for Foxtel, the main channels are grouped together.

just had a quick look & stan website says sign up now & once stan sport launches you can add the package to your existing stan subscription!

Reading this I am going to have to pay for stan & then another charge for stan sport on top.

Also the chances of getting a game on at your local Establishment on a fri night might be hard

I don’t think they’ll miss the boat, if anything the last 2 weeks before the season starts is far more important for marketing then 5 weeks out whilst teams are still doing pre-season. Given they’re launching a new product i expect there will be a lag in consumer take up of it regardless, the FTA matches on Nine will do more for cross-promotion of the Stan Sport platform then anything else.

So simply from a viewer perspective, unless your TV remote is broken and stuck on one channel........... there is no reason?

Got it.

But you don’t start it two weeks out, you start it now. If they don’t start by next week they’ve well and truly butchered it

And broadcast what exactly? Seriously. I'd hope more marketing for sure but there's little point in launching the platform with not content available in which to broadcast. They could conceivably wait until the week of to launch as long as they market that launch leading in.
