No the paper didn't list the reserves separately. But that's my guess as to what the teams look like. Both sides look pretty good on paper.

So your 23 is right and you have nominated the 15 starters? I think your starters may be right. The reserves for the Ones are usually the 4th ranked players, since the reserves for the Twos are always the best guys who missed out of the two XVs.

I am a bit surprised that Fine, Broome and Holloway are ranked in the lowest category though.

Can anybody fill in the gaps in the Twos please?

Correct. The starters I named are just my opinion but make the most sense IMO. I find it hard to believe that those 3 might be the 4th ranked players in their positions but there's always the chance that they are not. But the guys I named in the starting team seem the most likely.

Can the New South Wales team be reselcted after playing a match like the GPS teams? I certainly hope so. Maybe once the NSW 1s lose the selectors will realise their mistakes.

Yea once they play the NSW 2's and lose they will realise that they were really bad selections and polotics shouldn't have comeinto it. Seriously ISA suck and they always will GPS always have the best side and should get a lot more kids in considering they all get poached to the schools except Kings

The NSW Is don't play the NSW IIs unless they meet in the final and if anybody is thinking about it, they won't change the teams regardless of early results. It's not that unusual for the NSW IIs to have a better team than the Is. Twice in the last 4 years NSW IIs made the final but the Is didn't; in fact in 2006 NSW IIs lost to Qld IIs in the final.

GPS don't always have the best team; CAS beat them last year, but I thought the 2010 GPS forwards were better as a pack and more GPS players would get into the NSW Is this year, for the scrum in particular.

Last time - anybody have the paper with all the names in it and can put the gaps in the NSW IIs team as listed by rugby man? Thanks

You may be correct. Last year Papa did not get who he wanted most notably Volavola (New) and Carmichael (Shore) as his 10's the result being that the backline with the exception of Stirzaker and Woodhouse was totally disfunctional, therefore impacting on the results. This year it would seem he has "demanded" his team and quite possibly got it, maybe to the detriment of some other boys, but that is selections. Like Lee I thought that the ISA centres both lost ground in last Friday's game but can understand the need for a combination.

Of all the selections I am surprised that Boyd Killingworth is not in the 1st team. For me he was the standout in the GPS v CAS game and again last Friday evening. That is in no way to denirgate the boys chosen in the 1sts as i believe they will do well, however,IMO Killingworth was the stand out and deserved the tag of being chosen in the 1sts. That said he will be therein the II team and if he performs well he will be rewarded with higher honours.

Good luck to all the boys chosen, enjoy the opportunity.

Haha kings don't poach..... Boyd Killingworth anyone?

Boyd and Tom Connor are both on scholarships at Kings, as is Apo at Newington. Ben Volavola is as well however they got it wrong and he is too old for schoolboy football the same as Trent Lake at Riverview. There may well be others but who cares that is their business ! Enough on scholarships can we get back to objective discussion on the teams chosen.

P.s the bench in ones is the third choice of players, obviouly by looking at it. Seconds are 4th choice.

It looks that way; maybe they have changed their method; but who knows with some of the other selections being a bit goofy.

PS I note that whispers has Holloway as playing in the 2nd row for the ones instead of Cummins and Black at 9 instead of Wessels.

Upright,

You make an interesting point in your earlier post at 10.04 am regarding selections.

As previously posted by observer, John Papahatzis is listed as the (chief?) selector and coach of the NSW Schools 1st XV Team. As coach he will be judged by the performance of his team if he is also the (chief?) selector and therefore may as well have the team he wants.

John Papahatzis has a long and distinguished CV as a coach and passionate Rugby man.

Philosophically and politically, I lean towards independent selectors and coaches. Full transparency would be ideal but most likely highly impractical and impossible to achieve.

Does anyone have any more info on Black. A big call to pick him ahead of Donlan and Wessells, I hope the selctors know what they are doing as he is going to be under enormous pressure.

Agree that Boyd was hard done by, he has been knockling on the door for the last few years and deserved a place in the firsts. Anyone know more about Dargaville? I heard he has been playing well in the firsts at Rats Colts under Phil Brown, who happens to know Papa well.

Anyone know the goalkickers in both teams? I only know Purcell.

OK Lee - whats the drum on the wingers and fullback?
I got a call from a 'friend' who said that NSW were a bit light in this regard but I don't believe that for one minute.

Seems like the NSW selectors picked those they thought were good players regardless of the team they played in. Otherwise, GPS would have got the bulk of the players in the ones. This is the opposite of the GPS, CAS, etc selections where the selectors picked boys from the most successful schools teams. I can understand how the boys from Kings must feel, but that is exactly how some talented individuals from weak schools felt at not even getting the opportunity to trial or getting only a brief opportunity in say GPS 3s. Lewthwaite from Kings is an example (mind you he wasn't at a weak school), or Streeter from Shore or Graham from Grammar or High's halfback or Walford from Joeys.

I like to watch

I have to say the coach must have had a very big say in the side. As good as Jack Purcell is, I was certain Apolosi Latunipulu done enough to warrant the 12 spot in the 1st XV side.

yes he was unlucky, appears that apo missed out due his style of play, not due to his performance.
The argument about combinations V individuals. they did get burnt big time last year by picking individuals who all played like individuals.

We live in interesting times. Total backline in NSW 1s from ISA, excepting a winger from Joeys.
Having watched CHS vs CAS, GPS vs CAS & 4 games last Friday( excepting GPS vs CHS) + Augustines & Oakhill earlier in the season I find this total domination somewhat amazing.

I left last Friday evening fully convinced Cameron Clarke had done more than sufficient to play his way into NSW 1s- his defensive efforts were absolutely outstanding. Certainly didn't have opportunities in attack but anyone who has seen him in full flight would know his capabilities. He is only Year 11 and that may have been a factor, but I feel he could be wasted on a wing.

Only time will tell- NSW Coach has obviously got team he wanted
