Will be a cracker of a game, am tipping plenty of tries. The one Hills scored in last years semi would have made the highlight reel on any rugby show.Will be interesting to see how each side copes without a few of their key players.Hope all the yr 12 boys enjoy their last game of Schoolboy Rugby.

very disappointing spectacle; boiled down to 'pass it to the big kid'; the team with the most big kids won.

Noi way was it pass it to the big kid. In the begining Augies dominated with side to side attack and a lot of luck at the break down. Hills were penalised off the field in the first half. Two to the sin bin in the first half had HSHS under the pump. The ref was off side and gave penality after penality for HSHS being off side. Yet when Augies are off no decision. The ref even pushed the Augies defensive line back into position. You just had to ask the question???? Hills ran away with it in the second. The walking wounded in the Augies outfit looked like a mash emergency ward. Hills Willie Skelton was the talk of the match. Turning the opposition in to bowling pins. Yet his was not the turning point of the match was the tactical change of attacking positions empolyed by the Hills number 10. The rest is history. And losing their ten (Brisby) did not help matters. But he was not doing much anyway when compared to te HSHS 10.

The Hills Sports High School comprehensively defeated St Augustines 38-18. It was brutal, tough and uncompromising stuff from the boys out west. I was standing near some NSW official at the end of the game and one of them said it was like a game between men and boys and that really sums up the difference today.

Hills were too strong and had too much pace and flair for the Brookvale boys. They are indeed the powerhouse of NSW Schools rugby in 2010. This is the same team that won the Buchan Shield as under 15's and they have now gone on to win the Waratah Shield.

They did it the hard way too. Three yellow cards, a lop sided penalty count against them and three key players Steve Cummins, Jason Seage and Jacob Loko unavailable to play. The ref in my view was very lenient towards Auggies who continually killed the ball by diving over the top and playing the ball off their feet. A shoulder charge on Ethan Mafi when he was running for the tryline also went unchecked. It deserved a yellow card.

I have bitten my lip with some of the comments made about Hills and their players over the last few months. Any correlation between the performance of CHS (Hills dominated selection) and Hills first XV is ill-conceived. Many close to the CHS camp new there were issues with the lack of coaching sessions. It is completely different to the close knit nature of a school first XV team who train, play and socialise together.

My man of the match was Big Willy Skelton. He was just unbelievable with his runs, off loads and general workrate. He has a big future in the game. Not far behind him was flanker Brendan Newcombe who had a great game. They all played well. McCallum carved as well.

There is now talk about a game against Newington. Bring it on. With the demolition of Auggies today sure to spread around school yards tomorrow I don't like the odds of Newington agreeing to a match everyone wants to see.

Observer, agree with much of your post.
It was men against boys today.Don't know about the pace & flair bit, but yes Hills were dominant and deserved the win. i think the score was a fair reflection of the difference between the sides today.

3 Yellow cards to Hills all for foul play, 1 to augs for repeated infringements.
All yellow cards were deserved.There were plenty of other times the ref would have been considering reaching for his pocket.

Can't agree about the hard way though. yes Hills were missing players,as were Augs .
Augs & NSW 1's 5/8 played very little of the game due to a high shot with a suspected broken jaw.
Aust A's lock Domkins also concussed in the first 5 minutes & did not make his usual contribution.
It was not a pretty game with a lot of skill on show, Hills used brute force to overpower a smaller Augs side.

Augs best on field today was replacement 5/8 who is only 16, gave away twice his bodyweight and would have topped the tackle count. made some goods runs as well. the 9 also did plenty of work and showed as much courage. In the forwards the 2 was probably their best.
Best for Hills i thought was their 5/8 in the backs, and in the forwards there were no disappointments but I thought the 5 played better than big Willie, thought he was busier & just as effective when involved.also stole more ball than anyone else on the paddock.
Congratulations to Hills for their deserved win today and on a great season.

Can't agree with the size difference proclaimed. Look at the video as they stand before kick off. If any thing Augies had a height advantage. Some sides can't cop it when they get put off. Can't run over little guys. Count the pops the hills forwards and centres provided during the game. The sides were IMO equal. Augies had some quality forwards who played with guts. There backs could not dominate. End of section.

Well done to the Hills lads. I must confess to giving them faint praise in the past and especially a week ago after they played at Camden, but today they were terrific. [Where is that icon for kneeling on one knee and bowing arms extending?]

Big Willie was your man of the match observer?? Was he ever !! It's the best game I have seen him play and he wasn't the Lone Ranger. Prop and stand-in skipper, David Lolohea who played on both sides of the scrum during the day, was another, and he had a high work rate too. When it was 3-6, his try just before oranges was the signal for Hills to put the hammer down and when they re-started, Hills just blitzed St. Augustines.

But 2. Roy Fa'ate'ete and 8, Jason Havea were also a revelation to me and I had to keep looking at my programme to see the name of other players who looked like stars but hadn't shown it to me before.

The silver medal for man of the match must go to 10. Greg McCallum. He was running close to Willie's hip all day. Skelton has soft hands for a big man and his efforts with a couple of guys hanging off him led to moves up the field and often, tries, but sometimes Willie was too busy swatting off tacklers to unload and Greg was running past him like Terry Lamb, the arch backer-upper.

Even apart from the symbiosis with Skelton, McCallum, had an outstanding match. He was the catalyst for a lot of tries but in the tight first half he was instrumental in getting the ball in the right corners of the field. Ironically Saints scored one of only two tries from one of his chip kicks as ships passed in the night.

Hills were missing players but so were Saints, though hooker Kaufmann reported fit for duty after his Camden injury. 4. Dombkins, injured in the Oz A game on Saturday, also signed on, but was re-injured early in the final. Though he was able to finish the match (IIRR) he wasn't the same force for Saints as he has been.

A killer blow was the concussion of Saints 10. Brisby after about 15 minutes. Hills 6. Newcombe had a top game as observer said, but he was lucky to get just a yellow card for the coathanger to Brisby. Replacement 10. Natoli played well but the 9. Paul, 10. Brisby, 12. Purcell nexus was lost, and 13. Hingano was absent too on Oz Schools duties as we knew he would be.

It was a disappointment to me that he was injured. As a neutral rugby tragic I wanted to compare the different syles of Quade-like Brisby and Carter-like McCallum

It was all probably irrelevant though as the runs of the big Hills forwards knocked the stuffing out of Saints tacklers and not just one per tackle. The surprise for me was not that they could do this, but that they could do it for most of the match.

Well done Hills; worthy champions. 5 tries to 2 says it all and some were team tries that took the breath away.

it would be remiss of me not to mention the efforts of Auggies players 8. Dylan Maestri, Replacement 10. Natoli and prop John Mokofisi. They played very good games

good mtach report, although dombkins got concussed early in the game but finished the half still very dazed shows he is willing to play footy any time of the week. 15 trim was very well defensively, stop alot of tries from his tackles.
Hills 10, macullum was ok in the first half but came to life in the second with some brilliant footwork. hills forwards were impressive and overall much bigger than saints forwards and used this to their advantage by sucking sac into the rucks then having willie or havea running of 10. deserved the win hills did, but do they have a team like that for next year? do auggies? just have to wait and see

One thing I forgot to mention was that Hills won the sledging war too. During a long break in play David L and his front row mates were giving it to the Augies lads but in a very funny way and right in front of me.

Unfortunately very few. Five of those boys (and Steve Cummins) play for Pirates Colts and there's talk they'll drag a few more of their mates over to Concord next year. Steve trialled with Wests Tigers early last year, but to their credit the junior WT trainers told Steve he was too tall for league and should try his hand at rugby. So he walked along to the Pirates' office and joined up. We looked after him and he told his mates about the Pirates setup. That's why they're at Concord, not Granville.

Part of me feels they should logically be playing for Parramatta but blowed if I'm going to suggest the Pirates turn away talented schoolboys if they want to play with us.

Yes, Peter Schuster is one that got away from the Pirates. I noticed Parramatta colts coordinator Peter Koen in attendance yesterday. I think he may have snared some of the good Westfields Sports High kids that played in the Buchan Shield final win over Hills. A good idea really to be getting in early.

I think he is resigned to the fact that the Hills boys have already or are heading to West Harbour. Jason Seage said yesterday he has been offered a place in their senior academy. He has yet to accept.

Too true. One would hope Parramatta have done a lot of work trying to snare the boys from Prairiewood HS for the Two Blues. This is what rugby needs to do to grow in Sydney's greater west. For the Prairewood boys to go to the Sanix tournament in Japan and not continue with rugby would be a great shame.

For first post Biggun you've got nowhere to go but up.

i haven't seen one post here where Auggies supporters or others have shot their mouhts off or complained about the game. Hills deserved their win and all posts have indicated this.

As for players being out yes Hills had three players out, Cummins' Loloko and one other. i do feel that Auggies did suffer through severe injuries to brisby (confirmed broken jaw), Dombkins (concussion and broken nose in first three minutes), kauffman carrying an injury into the game and Hingano missing on Aus Schools duty. i believe that the result wouldn't have been any different but had all injured players stayed fit and been present for the whole game then the result would have been closer.

And by the way 36-18 isn't 30 points

Not good to hear Brisby with a broken jaw. No body can like that result. Hope it repairs quickly. I still have pliers from many years ago. Not a good injury to have, you tend to drop a lot of weight and confidence takes a while to return. All the best with your recovery.

As I understand, that was his last game of union. He is in the Oz Touch Football side and that will take priority
