A friend recently put me onto Metric and they are now on high rotation. They are indie rockers from Canada who came in at no.26 in the most recent JJJ Hottest 100, and are well worth a spin.

Not so much a find in terms of a new artist or genre me, more a find in terms of getting my hands on something desirable and hard-to-get.

I'm a big Captain Beefheart fan and amongst the man's musical oeuvre particularly well regarded is the album Lick My Decals Off, Baby. However since the 80's it has been out of print on CD and hard to get hold of on vinyl, with any items that do come up being expensive and of questionable sound quality and source. To someone young and poor like myself getting hold of the album legally is nigh on impossible.

So imagine my joy when noodling around on amazon a few weeks ago I took a look on the marketplace and found a seller in the U.S. selling a brand-new, unopened vinyl copy of it for only £24.99 GBP. Madness! I ordered it instantly, it arrived and sounds absolutely great on the turntable at home in NI. Couldn't be happier with it! Does seem like new vinyl copies of the album in a good state are going cheaply these days though.

A kiwi mate of mine recently put me on to Fat Freddy's Drop. This mob plays a mix of reggae, blues and jazz. It is really good to chill out to. They did a tour thru Oz last year.

I finally gave Matisyahu a listen. Not bad! Hassidic Jew who mixes reggae and hip hop.

1. Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History

Great debut album from British indie-pop group. Simple songs that rock.

2. Big Boi - Sir Lucious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty

This guy used to be one half of rap group Outkast, and has produced a cracking solo album at his first attempt. Obviously if rap is not your thing steer clear, but if not listen.

3. The National - High Violet

This is cool adult contemporary stuff. Great present for old men that like to keep up with current music- the lead singer has a Johnny Cash-like voice and the songs are something else.

4. Turin Brakes - Outbursts

Acoustic songs from a very consistent British band. Love the vocalist, one of the best voices going around IMO.

5. Sia - We Are Born

This is pure pop, which I am generally not a fan of. But Sia does it so well it is very hard not to like. The video for this song is shit though.

Understand that because this is not Icelandic Eskimo Chanting then Scarfy may not approve, so I must apologise in advance to him and those in his camp. But someone has to provide some... ah... normal music on this site.

I was wondering about Scarfies views on Bjork's album that is done all with Human voices. On one hand it is Icelandic but on the other it is people's voices not instruments (or more precisely computers).

Might put him in a bit of a conundrum.

Just picked up Angus and Julia Stone's new album and I have to admit I am loving it. Some of the best Australian music I've heard this year, and it is great background music at work. The other one I am loving at the moment is Midlake's latest.

Also have recently purchased Cloud Controls album, which has some great tracks, and some average tracks, and also Kele from Bloc Party's solo album which is also a bit up and down.
