Sydney Junior Rugby 2011

Well, the time is almost upon us. Registration days and trials approaching... time flies. After last year's Sydney wide competition, what lies ahead ? Thought last year the comp was very well run and a great success...

One thought crossed my mind though. Given that there are Sydney Saturday and Sunday competitions, would it be a good idea to have a Grand grand final between the winners of the Saturday and Sunday comps ? And maybe a plate between the runners up ? Given that the Saturday comp is pretty much a West only comp it would be good to have a unifying ending given that everyone is now under the Sydney banner.

Would be interested to hear other thoughts. For the record, I have no influence on this, just an interested parent...

I think that this has a lot of merit. It'd only be one more game for the boys and the the chance for them to be crowned champions of Sydney rugby in their respective age groups. Perhaps it could be called "The Sydney Championships" and be held at the one venue (Concord, North Sydney Oval etc)

This Champion of Champions concept has been floated in some form or another for the last decade. It was actually run in the late 80s and early 90s. Keeps getting knocked back by those in the north who dont wanna commit to an extra week of footy coz they have latte's to sip!

Very good CTPE ! Like the idea of one big day at one venue... How about at the SFS ? Surely that would be the pinnacle for the kids ? 10s to opens, all on one day...

Parra, think I know where you are coming from... Hopefully the new structure will allay some of the old rivalries (on all sides) and concentrate on what it is meant to be doing. Providing the kids with the best footy experience possible.

another problem................who pays for the ground hire of SFS for example? I think it's a great concept, but i dont think the SCG trust or Parramatta Stadium Trust or someone else will do a sweetheart deal on ground hire to host the games. They are after all, running a business.

Good point... unless they can be persuaded that if it's going to be unused anyway they could maybe charge a notional gate fee and give something to the community... Regarding which day, at the end of the season it could probably be either given that conflicting fixtures school/league would also be over

West Harbour Colts gave up an allocated game day at Concord last year to allow Sydney JRU to play its GFs on Concord Oval, the Pitates Colts played their matches that day on the back ovals. I'd imagine something similar could be organised with Eastwood, Uni, Norths, Rats or the Pirates again.

hmmmm...who should pay. Bloody NSW Rugby that's who. Last time I checked it was their job to provide for the development of Rugby in NSW.

Totally agree. BUt they'll complain it aint in their budget. They have lost 3 million in the last years and now have no cash reserves. Supporting and developing juniors is so far down their to do list it cant be seen
