The best XV of players from any school

PaarlBok

Rod McCall (65)
The Big schools dont play for a specific Cup or competition. There has been years since Paarl Gimmies and Grey Bloem played its other. Since two years back an ex Paarl Gim Head Master, Basjan Reinard introduce the Wilde Klawer series where the top 14 schools play the others they don play yearly on a home and next year away basis which include all the teams from all age groups aswell as the other winter sports like field hockey and soccer.

Kesomi Lolotonga, Robbie and AJ Abel are all products of Griffith High School (Riverina NSW). They got contracted as a package deal to Eddies through the NTS program before Robbie and Kesomi played Aus Schoolboys.

BG - Do you know where Robbie and AJ are playing rugby now? I know they were running around with Royals for a while but haven't seen any of their names mentioned anywhere in ACT recently. As for Kesomi - he's playing with Norths in the Brisbane Comp.

AJ is still playing for Royals. Robbie moved to NZ and was going well playing for Northland before taking up his Mormon mission, I believe, like Will Hopoate for NRL will be doing next year.

How is Kesomi going? He was promising in schoolboys.

No he was definitely expelled, so was hos younger brother Monty who also went to Churchie. Wild lads. ha ha
In that match you are speaking about, Churchie was decimated by injuries and Karmichael had played a round robin rugby league comp for Met East in the morning before coming back and dominating in the 3.15 game. Anton was phenomenal as well in that game. But K truly was the star of that side and is the best schoolboy player I have seen by quite a way, including David and Quade.

I remember when I went and watched the Australian schoolboys play NZ in 2003, and K wasn't playing because he was playing in the League schoolboys but he turned up to watch the lads go around. The coach practically begged Karmichael to throw a jersey on and have a run, but K just laughed it off and took a seat in the grandstand. He was only 16 in his final year of school as well, it will be a great day when he come back to out code fill-time.

Growing up in NSW, my father used to drag me down to all the local schoolboy games. Didn't really appreciate it at the time, but decided a few years back that I would take him to a Qld GPS game. The teams didn't mean too much to either of us so we both sat at Churchie watching ACGS in '03. Can't remember for the life of me who they were playing, but there was certainly a standout in that team. Many family arguments have taken place since the first time we both saw Karmichael Hunt play and still to this day I have not seen a more talented schoolboy walk onto an oval. The roar of the spectators as he walked out of the dressing rooms signalled that this kid was good.

My son later attended the school.. so I did catch a glimpse of the Pocock and Quade team of '05 but neither player really compared. Although Dad came up from NSW a few years back remarking how good this kid he watched was, kept ranting and raving about this number 10 in headgear. Compared him to special K. I wouldn't have a bar of it. Later turned out this kid was Kurtley Beale, guess the comparisons must have been somewhat justified

Dobber, what about John Langford who went to Knox but never played a game of rugby there, instead focussing on golf and cross-country running? His first ever game of rugby came at Sydney University's Wesley College when the legendary Wesley rugby coach Maurie 'Patrick' Cunningham persuaded a still drunk Langford to get out of bed to make up the numbers for a lower grade Uni Colts match. Thus began the path that led to the Brumbies' foundation team, the Wallabies, Munster and back to still playing fourths for Uni at the age of 42.

Few people know less about private school rugby - or private schools in general - than I do, but I note that other Wallaby OKGs (Old Knox Graduates presumably) include Adrian Turnbull, John 'Sparrow' Dowse and Peter Fitzsimons.

Bruce KGS has turned out 14 Wallabies over the years. The most recent capped Wallaby is Ben Alexander.

There are also a number of Knox Old Boys running around in the current Super 15. Nathan Charles (Western Force), Ben Alexander (Brumbies), Tom Alexander (Brumbies), Tom Carter (Waratahs) & Lachlan Mitchell (Rebels).

Former Wallabies players that you didn't mention include Bruce Taafe, Dave Burnet, Steve Cutler & Ross Turnbull.

It's not quite a Wallabies factory... but there is a few familiar in names there.

Just looking through at some of the AIC schools in this thread seems Iona is a long way behind.

Luke Doherty was in Grade 12 when I started in Grade 5. We have a few guys in the NRL now Mitchell Dodds, Dave Tyrell and Jared Warea Hargreaves. Shane Drahm went to the school as well.

Anyone else before my time?

Villanova - Andrew Slack, Ben Mowen and Brad Meyers as well as dozens of Q Cup Rugby League and Premier Rugby Union players that I don't know the name of.

It's going to get much worse before it gets better for Villa as most of the boys don't seem to care about rugby union anymore.

St. Laurence's has already been done.
