woops,lost it- try again:

1. Ross Turnbull 1959
2. Bruce Taafe 1962
3. Ben Alexander 2003 20024. Steve Cutler 1977
5. Peter Fitzsimons 1978
6. Alan Manning 1999
7. Bob Davis 1978
8. Ryan Perkins 2000
9 Nick Stirzaker 2009
10.John `Sparrow' Dowse 1953
11.Adrian Turnbull 1951
12.Tom Carter 2001 2000
13. Dave Burnett 1969
14. Phil Tuck 1977
15. Michael McNair 1997

Not a bad team- couldn't fit in John Langford(DNQ),Noodles Latimer,Andrew Brink and latter day Australian Schoolboys, Nathan Charles,Mark Johnson & Luke Rissman.
With Taafe,Manning & Charles, Knox has been a good production line for Hookers.
I didn't see all these players but I have to mention the most brilliant in my opinion was Dave Burnett(4 years in the 1st XV- not allowed these days) who later played for Gordon,NSW & Australia.

The first XV will FitzSimons and Cutler would have been UGLY!

Knox rates as having too many stars burnt out at an early age than most schools in Sydney - the local talent base was/is immense. Very few (if none) imports.

I'd have to disagree and say that St Ignatius has the most burnt out School Boys!

For a team that rivals Joeys year in year out they haven't produced too many Wallabies.

ACGS team of the century gets announced next year. Will be interesting to see what names come up in that squad, they will surely have done alot more research than us haha. Charalambous #2 currently plays for Easts I believe, either way hes still running around in the reserves. They've had plenty more Aust Schoolboys in the backline, remember a certain Dominic Fuller ('03) accompanied Matt Brandon on the wing. Perhaps Monty Ioane (Yr 11 currently) will make the team in a few years time.. A

May be a suprise to some of you, but I thought i'd point out to you that Pocock was Inside Centre during his time in the 1st XV. Not sure who played in the flanks, but he was one monstrous inside centre to have running at you

My second attempt with these changes in mind.
1. Andrew Viliamu ('03) - Aus Schoolboys
2. James Charalambous ('05) - Aus Schoolboys, plays for Eastern suburbs
3. Mania Ieti ('05) - Most won't have heard of him, one of the biggest schoolboys I've seen. Spend 2 yrs brought over from Samoa
4. Tom Hockings ('03)- Aus Schoolboys, plays for Western Force
5. Robert Ah Sam ('05)- Same deal as Ieti
6. Jake Schatz ('07) - Aus Schoolboys, Signed with Qld Reds
7. Josh Parry ('04) - Ireland Schoolboys team, also played Qld 1 and ran around for Easts for a while
8. Harry Elliot ('05)- Aus Schoolboys A, Plays for University
9. Eddie Bredenhann ('09)- Aus Schoolboys
10. Quade Cooper ('06) - Aus Schoolboys, Qld Reds, WOB
11. Matt Feaunati ('09) - Qld Schoolboys, #11 for Sunnybank
12. David Pocock ('05) - Wouldn't mind seeing him throw on a 12 jersey at some point just to show up SBW haha, probably too slow for it now
13. Anton La Vin ('03) - Aus Schoolboys
14. Aiden Toua ('07) - Aus Schoolboys, plays for Easts. Signed with Reds, although constant injuries slowing his progress down
15. Karmichael Hunt ('03) - Not sure if he played FB for 1st XV, but I like the thought of it :p

Bench
16. Zachary Johnson Pagliano ('06) - Queensland schoolboys, Same deal as Ieti and Ah Sam
17.
18. Steve Pocock ('10) - Signed with Force along with brother, terrific schoolboy player but back injury put an end to that career
19. Tim Atkinson (?) - Saw him mentioned earlier
20. Matt Brandon ('03) - Aus Schoolboys, Captain of 2003 premiership team. Now plays #10 for Easts, would make most 1st XV's
21. Dominic Fuller ('03) - Aus Schoolboys, running around for Easts
22. Henry Taefu ('10) - Qld Schoolboys, currently signed with Paramatta Eels NRL franchise. Plays #12

1.Al Baxter
2.
3. Tony Miller
4. David Dix
5. Garrick Fay
6. David Codey (c)
7. Phil Waugh

10. Mike Hercus (USA Eagles)

12. Alistair Murdoch
13. Michael Hawker
14. Andrew Smith (Current Brumby)

19. Mac Hughes (1953-1958)
20.
21. Tim Wallace
22. Arthur Mayne (1920-1922)

Can't find a hooker or fullback but plenty of locks and a pretty handy back-row. I might have misplaced a few players as I know most of them from the early 90s back only by reputation.

I'm generally apathetic when it comes to GPS old boys history but its a pretty interesting thread.

This is a really good post, but I just thought I would add a few things. David played 7 at school because another bloke by the name of Jason Hardy was running around and made QLD2 that year. He also played premier for the Sunshine coast for a few years. Mania was very good and deserves his spot, but was actually not that big. He was incredibly short with the biggest legs you have ever seen however. I didn't see much of Rob Ah Sam play so I can't comment. K played 12 in year 11, and 15 in year 12. Also Dom was a halfback and not a winger. He and Matt Brandon are still the halves combination at the tigers, having also played colts together.

The most interesting thing I thought you had there was Josh Parry playing for Ireland schools? Where on earth did you hear that?

I look forward to hearing the real announcement next year.

Ah if you say so, I watched a few Pocock matches at churchie and am fairly convinced he played at inside centre. I say this because this was long before he put on the size he has now. Had a lot more pace and with blokes such as Harry Elliot were in the backrow. Perhaps he played in the flanks for rep teams but I am fairly certain he was at 12 for schoolboy, even in the school year book with a 12 jersey on... Not to mention my son went to school with him and reminds me every 30 seconds

In regard to the Josh Parry, its published in the school year book ('04) that he played for Irish Schools, maybe they got it wrong, I cant confirm.

15 Clem Windsor - (1947)
14 Phil Carmichael - (1904-09)
13 Harry Roberts - (1961)
12 Michael Cook - (1986-88)
11 Digby Ioane - (2007-Current)
10 Michael Lynagh - (1984-1995)
9 Mick Dore - (1905)
8 Brendan Nasser - (1989-91)
7 David Croft - (2002-03)
6 Tony Shaw - (1973-82)
5 Bill Campbell - (1984-90)
4 Damian Frawley - (1986-88)
3 Chris Handy - (1978-80)
2 Mark McBain - (1983-89)
1 Nick Stiles - (2001-02)

Although Ben Lucas played flyhalf at school, I'd say he'd be a superior player to Dore at halfback

Later turned out this kid was Kurtley Beale, guess the comparisons must have been somewhat justified

He's the best schools player I ever saw and the delight was that he played for Joeys, the school team I follow - (my boys went there).

At the risk of people rolling their eyes at my telling this again: I had to take something to the school for a young relative and watched this 13As trial while I was there.

I was gob-smacked by this kid; so I made sure that I rocked up to watch him the following week, but he wasn't playing. I asked somebody where he was and was told that he was playing later for the 15As.

That started several years of enjoyable watching at Hunters Hill. Sometimes his whole game looked like a highlights package.

Those were the days.

I could sit and watch Karmichael/Kurtley schoolboy highlights for hours on end, for the sake of it i'd add Quade and Aiden Toua to the package just for my own enjoyment purposes. I wonder who will be the next to come through with that much ability, reports are Chris F'sautia (BSHS) is a freakishly good player. Not sure what to make of all that, but I'm browsing through my calender now trying to find an opportunity to see him play.

Villanova - Andrew Slack, Ben Mowen and Brad Meyers as well as dozens of Q Cup Rugby League and Premier Rugby Union players that I don't know the name of.

It's going to get much worse before it gets better for Villa as most of the boys don't seem to care about rugby union anymore.

St. Laurence's has already been done.

I'd just like to point out last year they won a premiership, and the year before they were one victory away from winning.....just sayin

Hahaha im glad someone was able to jump in and take those places. Pocock played 12 at schoolboy level, and quite frankly I liked the look of him in a 12 jersey. Hence why Brandon was on the bench and Barry was 7. The actual announcement next year will be interesting, I don't see Harry Elliot not getting chosen at number 8. Played Aus schoolboys and then for University, was also a School Vice Captain so there will be some politics in that decision.

regardless, that team would be incredibly hard to defeat

AJ is still playing for Royals. Robbie moved to NZ and was going well playing for Northland before taking up his Mormon mission, I believe, like Will Hopoate for NRL will be doing next year.

How is Kesomi going? He was promising in schoolboys.

I thought Robbie or AJ would have been on their mission by now - I figured that's why i hadn't heard anything about where they'd been. They are both really good kids, their old man (Tony) put a lot of work in for those boys (countless trips to Wagga from Griffith, then he moved to Canberra from Griffith to keep an eye on them while still supporting their family in Griffith - must have been a REALLY busy time for them all).

I'm in Wagga so i haven't seen Kesomi play much footy since he left Griffith other than a few rep games in Canberra before he went on to Aus Schools in 07. I thought out of those three boys we'd have seen more of Robbie or Kesomi by now. All three were fit, committed footy players, but Kesomi just had/has the build, athleticism and speed to be something really powerful. There was another big kid that hung around with them at Griffith HS named Junior something something and he was 6ft 4in at under 15's but just didn't have the heart that these boys did.

I'd be interested in hearing more about how AJ's going at Royals. I'd be interested to hear what Lesey thinks of him as he's seen AJ come up through the NTS program and others and is now coaching him at Royals in some capacity i assume.
