Just to add to the "this is one of the weaker CAS teams", I'm interested in finding out which year you think was the strongest for CAS, say in the last 20 or so years.

Is there a year when CAS comprehensively beat GPS? If so, do you have the team sheets?

Thanks.

In recent years the CAS sides of 2006,2007 and 2008 contained some quality players - a number of Aussie schoolboys and boys who have gone to higher things. From memory they only beat the GPS in 2008 - but in 2006 they were up against a special crop of GPS players that year. In any other year the CAS would have won easily (Barker has 7 NSW forwards that year alone) but they just happened to come up against a freak GPS crop of players.

This year i still don't see any CAS kids getting past NSW. If they do it will be more down to politics rather than form, a bit like a certain CAS 9 getting picked last year and then not getting any game time on tour because the coaching staff didn't think he was up to it...

Yeah the GPS 2006 Ones team was pretty special. They beat CAS 41-7 and got 6 lads in the NSW 1st XV (and 5 of the reserves) including KB (Kurtley Beale), Betham and Ryan whereas the CAS Ones got only one rep in the NSW 1st XV (though Charles got in from the CAS IIs.)

It was 2009 that CAS beat GPS (33-31). Top game. They could have won the Twos game also with a bit of luck.

I never said that he was selected for NSW... Just that politics were part of it. He played against Samoa and they realised he wasn't up to it. Didn't even make the bench for the test. They flew out another play who sat on the bench for the NZ test.

In attempt to resurrect this thread, has anyone any meaningful and mature thoughts or news on this weekend's games.

My understanding of the draw is (with home team first):

Cranbrook vs Trinity

Waverley vs Barker

Knox vs St Aloysius

I would guess that the latter two would be the closest games, though the state of the various grounds should bring all the teams closer.

It will be interesting too see Waverlys performance against Barker, after their shock loss to Cranbrook 2 weeks ago. Will they let the defeat get to their heads? Or will they be able to learn, move on and gain a solid victory over Barker?

Charles Ingram-Melsom, Chris Talakai are playing this week and possibly Rogers not to sure about him though

It will be just as interesting to see if Trinity can continue their form.

Trinity will be way too good for Cranbrook - it will be closer than their first encounter but i tip Trinity by 25+
Waverley vs Barker - this will be the closest match of the weekend. Will Queens park be open? Waves by 7-10
Knox vs Aloys - Aloys will get hammered. Knox by 25+

Trinity to win against Cranbrook. I believe the score will be closer, with the bookies playing well at the moment who knows what to expect. I suggest looking out for Cranbrook's no.8 and their 10, very mean if they have the ball in hand. For Trinity, strong runs are expected by Harrison Orr and Patrick Sio, and in the backs, Jack Debrezeini as well as Clark should perform.
Waverley to win against Barker, with the return of some players waverley this week should put it over Barker as Barker forwards seem to have lost momentum seen early round 1 and 2. The return of Charles Ingram-Melsom for Waverly is nothing to brag about in my opinion, lazy off the ball and definitely shouldn't be known for his running, I believe Waverley's team from last week should be kept the same with the exception of Talakai
Knox to win against Aloys, Knox are too structured for Aloys, who could (maybe) pull off a win through rubbish ball by Knox 10. I still say Knox to win by 20
