Seriously you'd think it was the end of the world! They have been together for 7 days! And that is nothing like the team they will announce this week. There is Definitely Horwill, Pocock, Genia, Cooper, JOC (James O'Connor) and Beale to come into the side. then maybe Samo, Daley, Turner and Ant Fainga'a.

Actually, I think we pretty much agree as to most points. It was more you're playing ratings I was commenting were a bit harsh. You can't say on the back of that one game that a player should never be seen in green and gold again. I still think there are a number who will eventually press a case for inclusion in the first XV, but maybe not for a few years. And this experience may well have set them back a bit.

Back to grade rugby perhaps? Time will tell, but on that performance I wouldn't be swapping jerseys' with the opponents. Individually poor performances created a hole that the team couldn't get out of.

Quick question to the guys at the game...I guess it is different from a broadcast (duhh)..I mean in the sense that you have a better grasp of the overall strategy?? Not limited to what the tv shows, you can scan around and see how the players are lining up the defense etc etc etc?

Spose both bring their own strengths and weaknesses, a broader overall picture at the game, better images of the action etc on the screen.

Any comments on this type of aspect?

I've only seen the second half through bleary eyes, but it looked like the disease was back - under-committed and out-muscled at the breakdown leading to static shuffled ball.

The out-muscled bit is down to the players. Either they can't do it, or just weren't doing it

The out-committed is down to the coaches and leadership group. How, when the Reds showed exactly how to do it last week, could we not learn that lesson this week? Even if it had only changed at half time? Matt Taylor talked about it on the podcast this week - you need to do more than clear out once, you need to clear out 2-3 times and have a credible through the guts of the maul option, or they'll fuck you at the ruck and then again out wide. Especially when you've got a ref who'll let it be shit-fight.

In games like this you go back to structure and get go forward - like the Saders will do.
I just don't know why Deans hasn't brought this across. Big tactical fuckup in my opinion and has put a big red flashing light over the neon sign saying "WALLABIES WEAKNESS HERE"

The concerning thing with the Deans Wallabies compared to the McKenzie Reds, is the complete inability to change the game plan to suit the opposition and especially during the game when things aren't going their way. Admittedly this was the Aus A lineup, but it has been a hallmark of the Wallabies for the last 4 years.

Lets face it, we underestimated the Samoans. We thought we could throw together a team of debutants, players returning from long layoffs and other players (who we wanted to test again at this level or test in new positions) a few days before the game and expect to win. No real game plan and no combinations. It was just too much up against a committed opposition with a simple game plan (which always seems to work against us). How do you judge the players performances in that context? Easy to damm them all but thats probably also harsh. Most damming criticism for mine should be for the senior players on the field and off field staff.

Turner doesn't have mediocre form. He was pretty poor in the middle of the season but his last 3 games were very good.

First choice (for Deans anyway)
Kepu, Moore, Alexander, Sharpe, Elsom, McCalman, Giteau, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), Ioane 9/15 or 60% of run on. Second choice players of remaining starters were - Hodgeson, Davies that takes it to almost 3/4 of the run on team is the usual A team accounting for injuries. If we include the first choice starters that were on the bench in Genia, Beale it doesn't say good things about the squad that Deans has chosen or what he has done with them. The fact is that this performance has very strong similarities with so many other comprehensive losses they have suffered under Deans, and there should be no debate the Wallabies were comprehensively beaten the result wasn't in doubt 10 minutes into the second half.

Can't you see that the game plan of the Reds V Stormers as opposed to say the Blues game was different?
