I think the HSHS will certainly go hard to the double again. Yet it will not be a cake walk like last year. Auggies will certainly run the ball up in the union and Mattra will be no easy beats in the league. Like last year mungo talent scouts will be buzzing like blow flies on a rotten corpse. lets hopr the corpse ain't union again. About time the ARU stood up and put a few extra dollars on offer. If not dollars organise post school apprenticeships or something. keep the dream alive for these kids thats what happens in league. Just a suggestion maybe some else has a better idea. cheers

In the case of HSHS the bird has already flown on most of the players - they are all league affiliated already

That's a bummer Iluv. I was going to the game but the reason I usually go is to look at the up and coming union players. Maybe I won't bother.

And what about St. Augustines?

Which of the lads from Hills and St. Augustines are likely union prospects, not going to the dark side?

For Auggies, if he plays, the only player lost would be Luke vescio as he is already contracted to Manly. All others taking the field are still faithful to the way of righteousness and all that is good with the world

there are not as many as you might think. Yes, a couple of the backs and three forwards are alligned with NRL clubs, but many of the team play rugby only. It would certainly be worthwhile going out for a look

Torps , your right on the money. I just returned from watching the final training run for both the HSHS teams in tomorrows matches. Again I say it will be hard work to win these games, but the lads trained well, The Buchan shield side will be strong but still missing Josh Martin and Raymond Marlogo. The Opens are at full strength. Poor Raymond snapped his ankle on the weekend playing against Hawkesbury. Martin will be sorely missed he's a flanker and can tackle well, best tackler in the team. Well one last sleep and tomorrow is history. Go the Hills.

Augies the winners on the bell. 20 /13. Great game and well played by the Auggies. To the HSHS there is always next year. To Auggies this year is yours. Auggies have now got 3 of the last four years of the Silverware.

....scoring went auggies 3-0, 3-3, HT, 10-3, 10-8, 10-13, 13-13, 20-13. Hills looked unstoppable in broken play; for a lot of the game it just seemed a matter of time before Auggies ran out of steam/defenders, but they kept scrambling & Hills kept shooting themselves in the foot: 2 (3 ?) tightheads lost; 2 kick-offs that didn't go 10, a pass from from a defending line out straight over the dead ball line for an auggies 5 metre scrum. Hills also had a try disallowed at the end of yet another amazing, long distance breakout that went thru countless hands - their speed and ball handling and support was fantastic to watch. I was in the stand in that corner and it looked to me like a great decision by the touchy, touch in goal JUST before the grounding. I think if they had scored there Hills WOULD have gone on with it. At 13 all, Auggies defense got very aggressive/attacking (reminiscent of the wallabies 1st ten mins last sat) & resulting in hills kicking the ball away in their own quarter. From that possession auggeis crafted the winning try out of a gambling attack down the right, grubber by 12, great wingers try in the corner, converted. Great game.

As I said earlier in a couple of posts, Auggies coach would come up with something, I know he a few people who don't rate him or think he promotes political decisions but he again came up trumps. You have just got to love his passion and dedication to his players. I myself have never spoken to him but have watched him work with the lads. He does an excellent job. In saying this young Hawkes for the Hills has done an excellent job as well, it is not easy teaching mungoes the finer points of the game. To many individuals who still think each game is a trial for selection. What Papa did was form a team who played for each other. They played for the man outside of them. That is the secret to a good coach. Well done. And it all starts again for next year. Cheers.

Watched a game of smaller players put it together on the day. Looking at program Auggies had a number of players out including Natoli, Domkins, Firth, Hopoate, Wolfgramm. Congrates to both teams.

That might be the school, one of them at least was not big on attendance of school or training and wasn't doing pathways.

Does anyone in attendance know the scores/results of the Brian Palmer Shield (Primary school competition)?
Newport PS were going for their third in a row for coach Peter Aroney. Phil waugh was the captain for one of their wins many moons ago.
