Resurrecting the thread.

Ever since I saw him at big day out this year I've been really into 'Girl Talk', a dj who mixes the best bits from songs into hour long tracks. I was initially sceptical, but his stuff is really good, great to party to, but also fun to just sit down and listen to for an hour.

You can download his latest album for free at http://www.illegal-art.net/allday/.

My latest find is a prog metal solo artist going under the name of Chimp Spanner. It's heavy, full of odd time signatures, but also melodic and atmospheric at the same time. Heard a couple of snippets and bought the album right away.

I'm very picky with what dubstep music I like, but this one caught my... ear?

Bad Plus is a great jazz/techno band from the US. Drummer Dave King is considered one of the best in the world, but all are superb musicians. Search You Tube for their song 'Flim' and you will see what I mean.

Lucinda Williams' new CD 'Blessed' is terrific. Very Mellow.

Robbie Buck put me on to Fela Kuti.

Wikipedia calls it Afrobeat, which is a complex fusion of Jazz, Funk, Ghanaian/Nigerian High-life, psychedelic rock, and traditional West African chants and rhythms.

A mate recommended American Bluesman Eric Bibb after hearing him live on 702.

Is anyone else on here a Hardcore or Metal fan? Or am I alone here haha

On another note the new Frenzal Rhomb album is awesome.

AND so is Example's album (the "Changed the Way You Kissed Me" guy), good mix of Rap/electro

Heard the new Confession album? I'm loving it at the moment.

Parkway/Break Even are mad, not so keen on Amity though.

How good is it! Breakdowns are brutal as, Heartless and Gimme A.D.D my favourites, but the whole thing is pretty good.

Just to confirm, HJ, I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek with the Judas Priest comments. They're alright for a bit of a laugh but I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan.

Fela Kuti and Eric Bibb are both great. Similar to Kuti are Public Opinion Afro Orchestra out of Melb; as for someone Eric Bibb's style I really enjoy a bit of Kenny Wayne Shepherd (can't remember the name of his latest album but it's damn good)

"Asthma Attack" my favorite so far. You're right though, it's solid throughout.

Heard any House vs Hurricane?

Yeh man I also dig House vs Hurricane, one of the best bands live, pretty interested to see how their new stuff turns out.

Good to see there is someone else on here with the same musical taste.

Agreed, these old codgers don't know shit (yeah Barbar, I'm throwing you in with that group, you are older than me...)

Colour Space is still my ringtone.

Back to the Big Day Out lineup; I'm not sure Parkway open air, to a wide crowd, is a big enough drawcard for me. Kasabian and Parkway has pretty much got me locked in though.

I just found this kid, he's actually pretty good. Reminds me of a sublime, cyprus hill. Mostly reggae but it's pretty good! let me know what you think.
