Can you give any specific names Random... As far as i know View are pretty clean on the scholarship count.

View are very careful about the application of the word 'scholarship'. They're so sensitive to it in fact that they proclaim with some zeal on their website 'We do not provide any scholarships'. Closely followed on the same page of course by a specific list of some 35 or more Bursaries. Not 'Scholarships' mind, but Bursaries, you know those heartfelt offers of a Jesuit education to the needy and deserving, particularly open sides.

Reminded me of my formative years, when the good Monsignor used to 'sell' Gods favours to the willing parishioners.....lol

To be fair I recollect he came to SGS senior school at the same time as his mum - but happy to be corrected - unusual that such an excellent swimmer (and "athlete") did not feature until year 9 in an age group at SGS that was not so strong (apart from one other) prior to his appearance, which was a big topic of conversation on the pool deck at the time and coincided with opening of a swimming facility across the road (may not be connected). IIRC he may also have suffered glandular fever in Yr 10 necessitating repeating.

I suppose my point is we need to be careful when dissecting the Kings U16 team as to why they are there. I am very encouraged to see at least 2 of them are rowing (including one of the high profile backs who apparently was not there in Yr7 and is presently sitting in the 1st 8) - good school spirit that is not so apparent in some of the other academies.

I've found a vid with rusty on it

Yep, the bursary, a product of the seminary, more than cursory, develops a great nursery for defeating any adversary.....lol

Haha gold ON85. There might be some truth to the Bursary program producing some 1st XV players but in my time there not a single kid on a bursary made the first XV at View- most of the kids were from Africa and had never seen a Rugby ball. Happy to be corrected though, I haven't paid too much attention to it since i was a student.

Joe, a couple of them where pretty good athletes but I suppose it is hard to find an East African who is not a good middle distance runner :)

Agreed, but they certainly weren't given a spot in the school for their running abilities. All in all, View (with maybe Shore) are the cleanest school in regards to sporting scholarships. Bursaries included.

'We don't offer scholarships, but here's a list of 35 bursaries'? Absolutely clean, no need for a 're-view' ? Ah the naivety of youff

ON, it would seem you are in favour of open slather, in which case you should probably visit the grandstand at Northbridge and compare it to yours, because this will give you an idea as to what is possible with Shore Old Boy money. The sleeping giant will be awakened and New will never win another premiership in any sport. :)

Win/lose/or draw ... it's lovely to recline on the verdant carpet that is the Johnson Oval embankment: intermittently glancing skyward to marvel at the undercarriage of a dipping European airbus, the spray of spent fuel and other miscellanous discharge cascading ever so lightly, tip tapping the thinning scalps of rugby enthusiasts from Lindfield to Woolloware alike as they root oh so feverishly for their beloved Wyvern chested XV.

ON85 as we have just discussed, none of the Bursary kids are in the 1st XV and so far we havent discovered a one in past years either. If they were using them to buy rugby players you would think they would chose kids good enough to make the team?
