I don't know whether the Brumbies are copying the example of the Waratahs who advertised for a two-day-a-week unpaid media intern for the Shute Shield with a job specification which filled half a page, but it seems that news releases calling for people to work for nothing are now all the go in Australian professional rugby.
The headline trumpets "Rewards offered ..." by which is presumably meant "a lunch with head coach Jake White". It isn't stated whether the geries will be expected to clear the plates and do the washing up after the lunch.
What's next for the franchises - lamington drives?

Shouldn't all you NSW supporters be saving your negativity for the Warratahs 2012 thread when your team inevitably fails to meet expectations again? ACT rugby has always relied heavily on volunteers.

I'd love to talk about the tahs on the Waratah thread, but people are debating as to which Brumby calls the Brumby lineout...
PS: Not knocking the volunteers. They are the backbone of the game for all the teams. I actually think it would be a good job

geez...even the tahs spectators don't attend entirely voluntarily: most have a genetic disposition to supporting hopeless causes. So who are these volunteers?

I think it is extremely commendable that volunteers are heavily involved. What I found ridiculous was the crassness of the press release and in particular the headline, "Rewards offered for Brumbies volunteers". This demonstrates a lack of understanding of the motivation of volunteers. They don't get involved in the expectation of receiving some trifling reward.

Does anyone else think that the Brumbies may actually have a very good year in 2012? They remind me a lot of the Reds just when McKenzie took over. Not many big Wallaby stars, lots of deadwood, but also a few very high potential young players who've been around for a couple of seasons.
I think Jake White will get the best out of the big frontrow he's inherited, but there's a lot of other potential in this side: Matt To'omua I like especially. A hard tackling, hard running flyhalf with speed and a good draw and pass. Lealifaano could be a great player.
Now that the pall of Matt Giteau and his chummy too-close relationship with head office is over, maybe all the players can start to take ownership of the team.

I doubt they will but maybe they'll show enough promise by the end of the season to be able to look on the year as a positive. To'omua and Lealiifano have yet to put together a good season from start to finish and, even if it is this one that they break out, the rest of the backs have either no super rugby experience or just a few appearances. That is excluding McCabe of course as he will be out for the start of the competition. Although promising, neither of the halfbacks have started a Super XV match have they?
The first choice front row looks very good and there is some good depth with the props, but what if Stephen Moore gets injured? Moore is an excellent player but the step down to Siliva Siliva, who has had injury troubles himself, is huge. Peter Kimlin is the only standout in the second row and even then perhaps he would be better suited to 6. It'll be interesting to see what Jake White makes of his backrowers. I have to say that I really like the balance in the strengths and skill sets that you have there.
I'd be surprised if the Brumbies make it out of the bottom three but I'd also be surprised if they don't unearth a couple of absolute gems along the way.

Kimlin should stick to Lock, he hasn't mastered either position yet and has oodles of talent. Ply your trade son

Well yeah, while you have Mowen fit you obviously play him at 6 but in the short term Kimlin has a better chance of making the Wallabies at 6.
