How will this benefit the Force? We will see in this ARC Phase II, good players, including Super players not in the Wallaby squads, playing against and with each other.

The Reds and Tahs will know a lot more about the guys they want, but the Brumbies, Rebels and Force will be able to assess players better than they can now. How can they compare player A from a strong Sydney club team against player B from a weak Brisbane team, without seeing both play at a higher level than (virtually) amateur club rugby?

The Force will always be disadvantaged in this process but it will be a better situation than now: making a punt on young players coming good, and staying, or choosing apparently good senior club players who end up being not so good at all.

The second option is clearly the way to go, LG. It builds on what we have.

The ARC was enormously successful in terms of identifying up and coming talent. However, it was not supported by most of the Sydney clubs.


I too would like to see something like this again, but I know that I won't, in my lifetime, there are too many vested interests determined to preserve the handful of powerful Sydney clubs, and I doubt that there is an appetite to take big financial risks again.

Why was the ARC scheduled during a World Cup period, when the top players, and many spectators, were away, when sponsors were likely to have their book full with World Cup related promotions, and ditto for publicity in general?

Why did the self-satisfied Sydney clubs oppose it so vehemently, when it was clearly going to be a good thing for the game as a whole?

Oh, what might have been, and now just never will.


My serious opinion is that a hybrid code is more likely to happen.

Like Phil Blake? The guy who engineered the Wallabies' turnaround in defence in 2010/11? He's already there. The forwards are doing very well so I wouldn't be giving Nick Stiles the sack.

I think you're watching the results and not the rugby.

Just went back and rewatched the Force v Hurricanes. It was a very high standard. I noticed a couple of things:

1. The Force are able to get points at will, it just takes them too long. When they needed points against the Canes they played fast, controlled rugby and kept getting the penalty and the 3 points. The try they scored in the first half was after multiple phases and a long period of pressure. This is a well-drilled team that is able to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

2. There are defence problems with some players. Nalaga was far too casual defending the 5m scrum that led to one Hurricanes' try. Maybe injuries during the pre-season are the reason for this sloppy form, stopping Phil Blake from drilling good habits into some players.

3. The Hurricanes defence was very fit and very effective especially in the last twenty minutes.

4. Justin Turner was a bit too wet behind the ears for those match-turning moments in the last quarter. Kicks out on the full. Not watching the ball. Even when you're playing well it only takes a couple of mistakes to let a close game slip.

These problems seem very fixable. Take away some of the soft tries the Hurricanes scored and the Force had it all under control. They are 85% of the way there, and now have another week of coaching and preparation under their belts.

I'm predicting a Force win by 5+.

The Tahs will kick off. Not raining here at the minute but expect the ground to be wet.

Sitting on the fence - think the force were hard done by. Think the ref a little blue eyed, truck and trailor and how come they get two goes with the lineout. Penalties!!! Wow, Force are going to find this one hard going.

I like it when refs indicate hands on the ball is ball out at the ruck. I hate it when players who are at the back of the ruck lean on the ball with their hands and think they can just wait a few seconds like that

Well I havent seen the whole game. Credit to the Force but what I've seen so far the Tahs have been woeful (if indeed thats the way they've been playing all game).
