The Force would do well to think outside the box and wave a few $ and a marquee spot under Elton Jantjies nose. Unless the Kings have their eye on him - Paarl, Blue?

Otherwise you would think he would only be a bench option at any of the other SA teams.

I reckon Paarl's heathen brothers will drag him back to the Cape but he'll be AWESOME for the Force.

Would love him at the Bulls as the next ten after Morne but I would rather see him start anywhere else. So much potential.

I'll also like Taute to come this way but then he is a true and true born and bred Lions player. Think the Lions will have to regroup and think out of the box. Try and get a relegation/promotion going the following year. Kings will only be a year at this level and will ditch out after the first year. Meanwhile the Lions can regroup, play Voddas and klap them big time. There is way to many talent in that area of Egoli, place of gold.

If Pollard signs with the Bulls, he'll be your next 10. Just been picked as a schoolboy in the U20s. Posted it in the IRB U20 thread. I watched him since u13 days and a vokken huge talent.

Love this quote: "SARU's statement leads one to believe that they have come up with a formula that will re-invent mathematics as currently five does not go into six."

"The Kings will play in the competition in 2013, but not at the expense of one of the other franchises," Jurie Roux, the CEO of SARU, told the committee.

Yeah, it will come at the expense of TWO of the other franchises, who will have to merge...

Ah, ye olde Southern King's issue! :D
It seems that SARU made a big mess by promising Southern Kings they could be part of the competition next year. It's a promise they can't fulfil.
Due to broadcasting rights the format of the competition cannot be changed until 2015 and the only way they could let the SKs in is to push two South African franchises to merge, which is also the reason why we can bet on the merge between Cheetahs and Lions at the end of this season.
But that is unlikely to happen, as the two franchises will surely have a contract that guarantees their presence in the competition until 2015, so I guess SARU can't legally force them to merge, but only put pressure (which is always wrong)
I think that at the moment both Cheetahs and Lions have no interest in losing their "inedependence" and that the Southern Kings can hardly be competitive next year in the competition.

Thats his Gim Boere maths. I am not to sure what will happen after 2013, that hold the secret. Everything our lot do is in give and take format.

You probably have it wrong. Saru made that promise to the ANC and our government. They dont care that much about Sanzar.

I read somewhere that the Kings are asking for a guaranteed place in Super Rugby until at least the end of 2015 when the current broadcasting deal ends. Which, from their perspective, makes a lot of sense. How are they supposed to get any sponsors on board or sign players if they can only promise them one season in Super Rugby?!

The whole situation is a mess and I cannot see any light at the end of the tunnel.

A promotion/relegation wouldn't work if only 1 major team doesn't make the top leauge, imagine the contract negotiations? It would turn into a revolving door system.

Not to mention what if the Griquas earn rights to be promoted? They could on talent but they don't have the population density for a Super Rugby team.

EP on the other had have nowhere near the quality of players right now to win a promotion/relegation battle and probably wont until at least their 3rd season.

And as we're seeing in the English Premiership at the moment, promotion / relegation dosen't necessarily work even when you DO have populations to support the higher tier games and legitimate compettion for spots

With all due respect but to think in South African rugby such contracts are worth the paper they are inked on is a bit naive.

I still expect this to end up in court and drag on for months to come.

Yes, and the Stormers should chase Pocock and the Bulls should chase Kurtley Beale.

that would be great for them, but if SA rugby are stuffing the teams around and with SA players allowed to play for SA while playing elsewhere this has a lot more possibility.

SA Rugby has in the past, at the request of the coach, allowed one or two overseas based players to play for the Boks. These are exceptions rather than the rule though. The players understand that by leaving SA they are diminishing their chances of playing for the Boks significantly.

We are yet to see what Heyneke Meyer's view is on selecting overseas based players.

I don't see why a player who is a regular starter for the Boks would risk his place in the team at the stage that Brussow is in his career. It has also been reported in previous seasons that Brussow has had big offers from the wealthier unions in SA, but has chosen to stay loyal to the Cheetahs.

Extremely unlikely that he would then consider coming to play in Aus.
