So a few government workers (in each location) - mostly part time and contract, lose their jobs and you have reduced your commute by half because of it? Forgive me if I find that hard to believe!
Well it started before the Airport Link opened, and I live on the south of the river; but don't let the facts get in the way, please do carry on.

Facts?

Is it a fact that you have halved your travel time because Newman has cut the public service?

I know plenty about traffic in Brisbane.

It doesn't really appear you are able to back up your original statement, you instead rely on attacking me.

All you had to do was say yes to my last post!

Well you have no idea how I get to work, and me telling you won't make you believe me. So you pick a pointless point to argue with me.

I didn't associate causality, but both my statements are true.

What pillars are those, sully?

Ok, I don't tend to get drawn into debates over politics, but this takes it for me.

If you actually think that Newman is doing the State a favour by his drastic cuts to the public services, think again.

Who is tasked with implementing Qld governmental policy? The public service. And this is not all. The numbers of people he wishes to cut then don't have jobs. Therefore, they are not able to spend money in small, medium and large business as they don't have any money. Guess what happens to those businesses (especially small) when no one spends money in them?

Increase in the burden on federal social security is next, as they have no other option. What you have then is a false state economy.

Newmans' 'cost cutting' exercise will hurt the state in the long term.

Additionally, does the Qld government realise that crying out that they are broke actually adversely affects investment in Qld? Keep shouting poor, drive away any investors, then lets see what happens here!

So to all the QLders, is your complaint that Qld doesn't need to reduce costs or what was cut?

The cuts do appear to be greater than what was required, however most of them are contractors and casual workers. They aren't as drastic as what is being reported.

However, whatever you view on those cuts, there is no way you could argue he is 'knocking down all the pillars of our economy'. If the public service is a pillar of the economy, then we are communists.

And the follow up question 'why do you think the Newman government is undergoing such unpopular measures'?

Funny that most posts in this forum in regards to the federal government bemoan the fact that both sides are just doing what is popular than what is right, then we have the same response when a premier does something that is unpopular, but something he clearly thinks is right!

The government is the biggest employer in the state. Of course it's a pillar. Especially in time of economic adversity.

Don't think so.
The rising AUD is a much bigger issue for new investment, given the major industries in Qld are mining and tourism.

Firstly, how does that translate to them kicking 'every pillar'.

Secondly how much does government produce in relation to other industries such as mining, tourism and construction?

Thirdly, you do know that some of those jobs are going to go to the private sector? This therefore has zero net effect in some cases. (although possible increase in productivity)
