Might be getting ahead of myself, but the draw seems to be opening up nicely for Oakhill. A second shield championship (first 1994) seems to be beckoning.

Gee that's a big call Follower. Agree with Ryan that if they get over Kinross this Sat they then have a midweek QF game against St Johns before the following weekend's roadtrip to Bathurst and then another midweek game the following week in a semi final against the impressive Marist side who have just rolled Hills Sports and put 40 points on Knox. If they win that its a likely rematch against St Augustines who will be all guns blazing to avenge their defeat of 2 weeks ago. A few mountains left to climb.......

Based on what people have seen, does anyone think Marist could beat either Oakhill or Augustines?

Does anyone know what the venues are for the semis and the final or when they will be released? I assume that both semis will played at the same venue on the 15th.

Marist beat St Andrews by 30 points or so. Waratah Shield match.
Oakhill beat St Andrews by 60 points or so. ISA Comp Game.
Auggies beat St Andrews by 70 points or so. ISA Comp Game.

As much as previous results are a reliable and accurate form guide (not all that reliable), The St Andrews coefficient says that Marist will put up a good fight but will fall short by about 20 or 30 points.

Oakhill beat Daramalan by 10 in the Shield Match.
Marist beat Daramalan by 18 on Saturday.
Auggies are another story having beaten Canberra Grammar by 40+, a team which has defeated Marist on two occasions this season. But then again, Oakhill pulled off the upset so if Marist can get over Oakhill anything is possible.

There is also a good chance of the Marist boys getting a rest this weekend with a possible forfeit from the bottom-ranked Royals meaning they will be well rested for Wednesdays clash with Oakhill.

Just heard from my man at the Oakhill V Farrer game. It was almost a boilover with Oakhill getting across the line 36-34. With 9 to go, Farrer led 34-22 and were all over Oakhill who were listless and full of mistakes. Well done to the Tamworth boys who travelled down today. Massive wake-up call for Oaks I suspect.

I assume you mean Dubbo not Farrer? Farrer were knocked out in round two. Sounds like it must have been a good game worthy of a quarter final. Anyone get out to the game or know of any standouts? I don't suppose you have a man at the Auggies game Ryan?

St Pauls leading 21_5 at 1/2 time I believe
A couple of long range tries from SG Ball centres gave them a good lead at the break

This would be a big boilover if the Waratah Cup team beats the one of the Waratah Shield favourites.

Did Auggies get too puffed out in scoring 70+ points on Saturday? Can't imagine that they would have sufferred too many injuries in a score like that.

Oakhill did indeed take on Farrar today after St Johns Dubbo withdrew after apparently confering with the Kinross brains trust and deciding on the back of last Saturday's result it wasn't worth disrupting the boys HSC trials in the vain hope of defeating Oakhill in Sydney - ye of little faith!! If they turned up to play as did the Farrar boys then they could well have walked away with the chocolates.

Farrar played a typical country game - hard, fast and uncompromising. Extremely well led around the park by their #10 who I assume is John Purchase, the Aus A rep, they fought back from 14 nil down and got it to 34 - 22 with 10 to go. Oakhill got out of jail with 2 late converted tries. No point making excuses, they were very ordinary in both decision making and execution and were out-enthused by the Tamworth boys who didn't look like rugby technicians (mainly mungos??) but they all knew how to tackle, a few were very skillfull (#10 & 12 in particular) and they all had plenty of passion for the contest - good job boys!!

They were missing 7 or 8 last Saturday.and I assume St Andrews were also missing a stack of players.
Apparently they lost a couple more to injury in Sunday's Sydney Country game.
It seems to be a war of attrition ATM.
My spies tell me that St Pauls were just a couple of players short of being a very good side.Apparently their 12 caused Augs no end of trouble (currently playing Toyota Cup with Manly).

Heres some interesting Waratah Shield tidbits for you. I *think* the last time Marist won the Waratah Shield was against Oakhill College in 1993, and the last time Oakhill won was in 1994 against Marist (Joe Roff in 1993 side) . The last time Marist made the final was in 1996 against St Pats College strathfield and thought they had won the game when the ref blew full time, Marist up by 2, the ref didnt see the touch judge put his flag out when the Marist lock infringed at the ruck, 45 metres out, to the right of the upright. The crowd had already run on the pitch celebrating a marist victory, the ref had to clear the pitch and award st pats a penalty.

St Pats kicker took a shot from a difficult position (not unlike Kurtleys shot against South Africa a couple of years ago) and nailed it sparking scenes of jubilation in the St Pats camp for their one and only Waratah Shield win.

In 1998 i was at the final between St Edmunds and Cromer Hiigh and remember seeing one George Smith take a 100m intercept try.

I hope Marist give a good crack (I'm an old boy before I moved to an ISA school) , as the Waratah Shield once was such a prestigious tournament in the 90's but I felt it lost it a bit when they excluded the ACT schools. I remember as a young tiger , playing (and winning) the waratah shield used to be a big deal . Heres hoping a Marist v St Augustines final which will see John Papa rekindle his old rivalry with the boys in Blue and Blue from Pearce.

Time for some trivia.
Q. Which Rugby Coach started their rugby coaching career in the Waratah Shield?
A. Bob Dwyer, coaching Marcellin College Randwick back in the mid 70's.

Well f-me, if you don't learn something new every day!

Marcellin is very reliable feeder school for the Bunnies now :( and have a wealth of footballing talent!

In saying that the NSWCCC U/16 team that competed at the NSW schools championship last year (which did exceptionally well) contained a fair few Marcellin boys!
