Raises the question of how they'd prove that...

Anyway, would be great to have the Bingham Cup here, and while JG fronting the campaign is cringeworthy, imagine if it were Tone.

Perhaps, but I wonder if the point of the tournament is less about combating discrimination and more about challenging stereotypes - specifically that gay men are not man enough to play contact sport. I think there have been very few top class rugby players who have publicly come out. Gareth Thomas being the one exception, and I recall him being interviewed and he said that he felt very uncomfortable being a gay male in rugby. I think a far healthier situation would be one where players and fans have no issue with another players sexuality. I have no doubt at all that there have been a considerable number of gay All Blacks and gay Wallabies, and probably there is at least 1 right now.

On the gay RWC, I have got no issue with it, and I hope that one day the subject won't even matter.

a good step to that end would be to allow gay marriage - I'd warrant that more Australians would participate in that than will participate in a, so called, gay world cup.
And if you agree with that then BDA above is spot on as to the hollow gesture.

One union boss is a very public advocate.

Does a Team Captain = Boss?
Is this just about trade unions or rugby union?

And bravo to the (Rugby) Union Boss who has not only publicly come out in support of gay marriage, but is delaying his own marriage in solidarity. Well said and done Bam Bam.

A quick survey of union bosses probably put paid to that.

It surprises me that unions would be anti-gay marriage. Over here at least, unions are bastions of liberalism and inclusiveness, often pushing the boundaries in that direction.

I should clarify I have no issue with it and am in fact very supportive of the tournament.. I don't see it as reverse discrimination, rather an opportunity for players to play without fear of discrimination and also immerse themselves In a tournament culture which embraces their sexual orientation.

I don't see how a persons sexual orientation is relevant to sport in any way. "Gay Only" events like this risk putting the focus on the wrong thing when it should be about tolerance and acceptance day to day in mainstream competition. I respect their right to stage the event, I just wonder if it's the best strategy to achieve the outcomes being sought.
