I've got to admit overthehill, you are pissing me off something huuuuuuuge at the moment.

Your attitude galls me. My gall bladder hurts reading it. My bile levels are rising. You are bad for my health generally.

Smug. Obtuse. Deluded.

At the risk of pissing Scarfman off huuuuugely with my question, does that nice graph of social awareness come with an algorithm, or do you guys just chuck darts at it to see where you lie?
This is a semi-serious question. :)

The algorithm is unknowable.

Fuck, I'm more left but just as libertarian as Scarfy.
The compass is clearly broken!
Interesting exercise.

Most people in my profession are well and truly in the opposite direction.

Ah well. The realities of macroeconomics can be difficult to accept as they're never discussed in the public sphere.
Quite why they provoke anger and the attendant ridicule and rudeness is harder to see.
If I come across as smug, it's only because I'm not responding to your wumming and trying to keep to a factual debate.

Was that your attempt to prove that you are not smug, obtuse and deluded? :)

I can't get my pic to copy with my farking iPad, but I am just 2 squares above you exactly.
Who knew this place was such a bastion of Chardonnay-sipping latte-sucking elites?

I think there's something wrong about that chart. I don't see myself as libertarian at all; I think there is a clear role for government in both economic and social policy. But the chart asks a bunch of questions about sex! My views are pretty libertarian on that topic, but not so much generally. You can put me 3 or 4 squares further north, I think.

The left/right axis seems OK to me. I'm far to the left of mainstream politics and far to the right of all the Marxist sociologists and historians I work with.

It's American.
What I think it proves is that if this were the 50s we'd all be subject to house unamerican activities investigations.

I'm not really surprised that this site has a bunch of lefties on it - I mean, rugby is the thinking man's game after all.

Look, I understand that it's difficult to put all the conditioning you get aside and accept that the reality goes against the received wisdom. Especially about something so vital.

But all the conditioning and all the received wisdom is plain wrong.

The fact is, that I am correct regarding the monetary system that we have. Ross Gittins isn't. And nor are you apparently.

If that makes me sound smug to you, then I can't help it. But calling people delusional is about as smug, and lazy as it comes.

We're all being F*cked by the government - hence the corssover from sex to politics: if you cant feel anything as they do it then you're more libertarian than you thought.

I had to look it up and I didn't think I was that. I thought I liked big government. Well if they say I am I must be. Oh well they got the lefty part right.
