Insiders is fine. Have never seen the problem, and I consider myself to be on the right side of politics.

In fact the guys I find myself disagreeing most with on the show are Ackerman and Henderson, who are little more than partisan hacks. The rest are reasonable journalists who call it like they see it, and shouldn't be pigeon-holed into a 'right' or 'left' faction.

As for Cassidy, he may be a former Labor staffer but I have never thought this has shone through.

I think it's a pretty solid line of logic to argue that the Ashby case is far far more serious breach of ethics and law than anything that has been proven in the AWU 'scandal'. But just watch how many columns get written about this as opposed to the bullshit that has been said (still with nothing proven) about something that did or didn't happen 20 years ago.

The Ashby thing is pretty stunning and will take some time to sink in but I think it will blow up, the bit of the judgement I heard in the media was pretty blunt. Once Labor find the angle to attack through it will be on.

I hope they can bury Mal Brough with it. I just don't like him. Mr intervention himself. I hope he gets every piece of scrutiny he deserves.

I love the Daily Telegraph and The Australian's reporting of it. The Australian's editorial tries to turn the attack on Labor, while the Daily Telegraph bury it on page 17.

Could someone tell me whether the Journalist Steve Lewis could be prosecuted for having Ashby steal Slipper's diaries? I think the reporting on this matter was unbecoming and quite frankly embarrassing. I had a quick read over some of the judgement and it was scathing. I think having Brough as a candidate for the seat really is quite disgusting and quite frankly unbelievable but the Courier Mail down here in QLD aren't concerned, and the Australian reported on Page 1 of their weekend edition when the story first broke and they ensured it was framed in the most sympathetic way. Mal Brough has poor judgment and should be removed as a candidate, but don't expect it.

Did Brough give evidence?
Did Brough or someone on his behalf cross examine any witness?
Did Brough or someone on his behalf make submissions as to the findings that should be made?

Anyone hear Swannies press conference regarding the last quarters GDP figures and the government making the first talk about not delivering a surplus for this financial year?

Timing is everything isn't it. Just days before Christmas, the PM on leave and Swan (acting PM) a little extra hot under the collar...

Timing is perfect for them. Trying to take out the sting by announcing before Christmas, hoping it will be forgotten.

But it doesn't really matter, any half intelligent person already realised they were only playing a political game by talking about surplus in the first place. Now Abbott will play the reverse game.

Wish they would all just get on with actually achieving something meaningful!

I don't necessarily mind people effectively doing a 180 degree turn. But I do find it galling that they do it in a manner where they attempt to take the moral high ground and effectively ignore their previous position on an issue.

The problem with australia is the morons get to rule us all. A highly partisan media who aren't interested in explaining reality play to the dumbest sections of the populace, and the foolish politicians follow along and play the game.

Gillard was an idiot to repeatedly say that there wouldn't be a deficit, and for that idiocy alone she deserves to lose some more popularity. But the simple fact is, every single sane person who understands basic economics knows that going into deficit is the right thing to do, and knows why it has happened. If I can quote Keynes: "
“When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?”

Wilful you are quite right - but I just wanted to say that I read that with Benders voice (to myself) and it was extremely powerful!
Bender for PM!

God bless Julia and the Labor ministers. Where would any human rights legislation be without a clause to ensure the right of religiously affiliated organisations to discriminate against the human rights of others? Even better, they've simplified it this time around to ensure all those dirty sinners are protected from applying for jobs in schools and hospitals that are better off left to the true men/women of god among us.

http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/political-news/antigay-rights-to-stay-20130115-2crma.html

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has assured religious groups they will have the ''freedom'' under a new rights bill to discriminate against homosexuals and others they deem sinners, according to the head of the Australian Christian Lobby.
Under current law, faith-based organisations, including schools and hospitals, can refuse to hire those they view as sinners if they consider it ''is necessary to avoid injury to the religious sensitivities of adherents of that religion''.
Ms Gillard has met Australian Christian Lobby managing director Jim Wallace several times, and he says she assured him ''she has no intention of restricting freedom of religion'' when it comes to religious groups' legal rights to discriminate in hiring and firing

I agree that it is fairly poor that religious organisations are exempted from the same anti-discrimination standards applied to other employers yet they have the added perk of enjoying tax exempt status.

From a political perspective it would seem fairly prudent to hold fire on attacking the exemptions from discrimination legislation at this point.

I think the gay marriage issue is probably more advanced from a public perspective and likely to feature in the political agenda in a serious way soon. I think the Government is likely to make more progress on these social issues by focusing on one major issue at a time rather than to be seen attacking religious groups (realistically this is mostly the ACL with their very powerful voice) on all fronts.
