Have to see Deans now, from within, revitalise the side. Maybe he can find another gear. It's going to be needed.
I am amazed that anyone actually thought there would be anything but this kind of unit.

Its not a dumb choice and i guess the general characteristics were predictable as you suggest.
There are just some amazing coincidences considering how many people there are in the world.

Someone who has worked extensively in every tier of the game will be a big loss for the newbie. Working the BBQ on Saturday mornings ain't quite the same.
Reminds me of the story about this guy who used to work for State Rail doing the timetables. He was an ex driver but he was a genius at getting the trains running on time. They gave him this pokey office in the tunnels just out of North Sydney Station and they paid him the basic wage, a pittance. One day he said he'd had enough and he'd been offered a job with an extra $50 a week. Despite tens of millions of dollars worth of computer modelling the trains have never run nearly as well since the day this guy left.

Yes, and a totally fucking stupid, unnecessary and reckless commitment - Deans for all of 2013 - to make in January 2013.
Blind Freddy can see that, short of 3 totally dominant Wallaby, big wins over the Lions, it would make huge sense to review the national coach's position in July 2013 (just as the position should have been reviewed in November 2011) after then 5.5 years in the job, and the longest serving ever.
So now we have it that _whatever_ the calibre of Deans' Wallabies performances in the Lions and the 2013 BC, TRC and EOYT, a potentially new coach will not have control of the national side until c. June 2014, and then through to the RWC 2015, a game span of 15 months only, just as Connolly had for 2006-7 and which even ardent Connolly detractors admitted was too short a window for a pre-RWC coaching appointment if we were to maximise our chances in a WC.
And Pulver was jumping in saying what a wise move it was, wholly supported by him, to unambiguously endorse Deans for all of a 6th year. He had absolutely no need to be so effusive and unqualified at this juncture. Surely he should be bringing a spirit of at least some judgemental independence from the ARU board.
It was the touching display of a no doubt happy and mate-infused history as displayed in the 9th photo down, left side, within this link, taken on the very day before JO'N resigned in 2012, that grew my concerns that this heavily-status quo-networked appointment could condemn us all to more of the same, and the appalling judgements (or lack thereof) applied to our code's strategic development since 2003.

I was of the impression that Deans was contracted until the end of the Lions series. To hear he is guaranteed the role for the Rugby Championship and the EOYT worries me. Even my 96 year old neighbour who doesn't watch any rugby would have enough management acumen to realise that if someone hasn't been delivering in their role they need their position to be reviewed.
If we loose to the Lions then questions should be asked by ARU management, but here they are saying that he'll be fine. If we fail to beat the All Blacks and struggle against South Africa and loose to Argentina, all good, nothing to worry about Robbie. Head over to the UK, 2 years out from the RWC to be held there, and fail to fire any shots. We'd better have a look at this Wallaby coaching thing now guys.
Maybe you guys are right, another job for the boys.

Hang on a minute, I just watched the 7:30 report interview and the interview on Fox. He gave the same answers, word for word in both interviews. You mean to tell me this was scripted? Who would have thought?
After I heard the first interview I said to my wife that he gave good answers. She said you do know that would have been scripted don't you? Of course I said...... Hmmm
If I was in the same position I would do the the same. If he stumbled on a question everyone would pounce on it. He still came across quite well.
