When GAGC comes up with our own team gear, I'll wear that. Until then, team stuff is the easiest to buy. Although most of mine is brand, rather than team. The PeeWee jersey is awesome!
Are they really any worse than those guys who wear head to toe teamwear when it's blatantly obvious they've never ridden for them?
I'm lucky Cat_A I'm too fat for team wear so I've never had to make the decision. When GAGC comes up with our own team gear, I'll wear that. Until then, team stuff is the easiest to buy. Although most of mine is brand, rather than team.
I can see the GAGC slogans - " Get on the big ring, ya girl" " Stop sucking my wheel, leech" "Do a turn" "Roll away, Black Seven" (you see, the last one is cross-cultural!).
Inside Shoulder I liken it more to wearing the jersey plus shorts plus socks plus boots

I live on a major bikeway and while most people wear what I imagine most people here are thinking of, I'm talking specifically about the team socks, gloves, helmet, jersey, shorts- the lot - all in matching team uniform.
As an outsider to this fashion challenged universe, my only comment is that there seems to be a distinct correlation between the amount of "kit" worn and exception from road rules

In some - but not all - cases breaking the rules made for cars when you're just a bag of flesh vs a 1 tonne chunk of steel is safer for all involved
As with all other things cycling, there are well defined rules for such things here: http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/
Rule #17// Team kit is for members of the team.Wearing Pro team kit is also questionable if you’re not paid to wear it. If you must fly the colors of Pro teams, all garments should match perfectly, i.e no Mapei jersey with Kelme shorts and Telekom socks.
So yes, avoid the team kit. For me it's 80% Castelli (brand, not team) with the odd piece of contrasting kit.
decent = substantial?Braveheart81 - like the man says - to be avoided but not banned. I believe just try and avoid mixing other team kits in
Inside Shoulder - perfectly cool, especially with a decent sized beer belly
