I think my early call of a grammar First XI premiership was a bit rash.. the team didnt perform exceptionally well at the Tri-Grammar tournament recently, and with a few high profile players unavailable the team might struggle early with the tougher schools in the competition.

I have a few close friends in that Terrace First XI, and honestly they are looking scary. A bowling attack spearheaded by Jack Prestwidge, Barry Bester, and Slater Asnicar with some stylish batting from Sam Wilson and Angus Fowler in the lower order; not a team I would want to play. Definite favourites for the 2013 season, with some serious competition from TSS and TGS.

Sadly, I dont think this will be my beloved light dark blue's year :(

Current Standings;
1st BGS (20)
2nd BBC (15)
3rd GT (12)
4th ACGS (9)
TGS (9)
6th IGS (6)
7th BSHS (3)
8th TSS (0)
NC (0)

May be a bit early to call but its looking like this season will be a repeat of last years rugby round 9 "Grand Final", except this time between GT and BGS. With that been said, GT still have the hurdle of TGS this weekend as well as BGS having to deal with an under performing TSS in Round 8. ACGS may also prove to be a tough game for the two teams.

I agree that this looks likely, however it seems hard to write off BBC.
Draws could also complicate things

how did everyone go and what are the standing for end of round 4?

At the start of round 4, as I see it the competition has been divided into 3 tiers.
Competitors:BBC, BGS, GT
Possibles: IGS, TGS, ACGS, TSS
Wooden Spooners: NC, BSHS
This round is crucial for BBC/GT-A loss for either could potentially ruin their hopes for the premiership.
BGS v IGS-BGS need to continue their undefeated run while a win for IGS could put them as competitors for the premiership.
NC v BSHS-Looks like the game to decide who will end up with the wooden spoon
TSS v ACGS- A win for ACGS keeps them in contention for the premiership and sort of so for TSS (But they need results to go their way to be in real contention)

As of now, I'm sure everybody knows what happened. BGS were skittled by IGS, something nobody could have predicted seeing the return of superstar Kendel Fleming to the side.

However, early on Grammar struggled, losing wickets quickly sending Kendel in to revive a failing innings.

Kendel looked immediately under pressure from the get go, struggling against the barrage of short balls Ipswich peppered him with. Didn't look confident at all as IGS attacked his injured wrist.

What became apparent after he got caught at mid-wicket on 7, was that his wrist has not recovered to the extent where he can play First XI. After meeting with Jon Hopes this morning, Fleming looks set to be dropped to the Second XI indefinately, until he has proven that he can lead BGS again in his on-field performance.

Though it couldn't have been an easy decision to make, I think I understand the reasoning... why break up a team that has been performing decently all season to bring in a batsmen who isnt match fit, and lacking confidence? and confidence is one thing Kendel can get from a few games in the seconds. Expect Toombul prodigy Matt Renshaw to captain in his absence.

Just a side note, the Second XI competition has 2 undefeated teams remaining, BBC and BGS, and they are playing off this round. Grammar should steamroll them in this game with Kendel in the side. Grammar Batsman Jack Hewitt (c) hit 92* against IGS, batsman David Milne blasted 114 off 89 against Downlands, should be an entertaining game if anybody is around to watch.

Do you think his wrist will have healed to play the potential grand final against GT? (Assuming both teams do not lose up until then)
Word is that prestwidge has not been bowling for Terrace and I wonder whether he will be back for round 9 also

I hope so just for the sake of competition, but I couldn't possibly say. and judging that Kendel thought he was ready to play last week, I seriously doubt he could say either..

I heard Barry Bester also experienced some injury trouble bowling early in the season, has he recovered?

Bester has been bowling as far as I know, so I'm guessing he's alright now. It sounds like Kendel could reasonably play round 7/8 if he beleived he was alright last week and did not do too stress his injury too much by trying to play this week. The only issue then might be form. BBC Vs BGS will be a very crucial match for both teams as a loss will seriously hurt either teams hopes of a premiership.

Here's hoping he will, the team needs him to be fully fit..

I can't help but feel BBC is a team of pretenders. OK, beating TGS was goood in round 1, beating Churchie in round 4 was also a very solid win. But the rest of their schedule has been ordinary, blessed with a lucky draw.

any old team could beat State High and Nudgee. and they've lost to Terrace already. I think BBC aren't as good as the record suggests. I feel pretty confident backing Grammar in round 6.

I believe GT are playing nudgee this week?

This is true-although they did challenge GT to the last over (However this could have been poor performing on GT's part-hard to say).
GT has Nudgee then BSHS, ACGS and finally BGS-The next two weeks should be pretty easy going I would imagine and ACGS do not pose too much more of a threat.
BGS have BBC who will be tough, but my money is still on BGS. Following this they have ACGS and TSS before GT, which should pose a threat but not too much (Have TSS begun to live up to their pre-season expectations yet?)

I suspect that GT's easy run may work against them before BGS. Nothing like easy wins to get complacent about a game.

I wouldn't have a clue about TSS other than the fact they're a team with good potential, just like every other year. Given the fact that nobody is talking them up as a team of contenders, I could only assume that they're having a run of the mill season.

My area of expertise is the second XI, where TSS are one of the superstar teams of the competition. With this depth teams should expect a tough game. I know for a fact that TSS lost to GT in round 4, and thats about it I'm afraid.

Globetrotter would be able to help out if he's around, hasn't posted anywhere in a while

Good batting pitch at BBC on the weekend, and BBC were well below par posting 199 batting first, mostly due to a top display of control from the GT attack, in reply a solid start held GT in good stead as they worked their way home with minimal risk and 9 balls to spare. BBC vs BGS should be an interesting game this week, I believe it will closer than many believe however look to BGS to bounce back after their shock loss last week.

Does anybody have a ladder that comprises of points? The gps results website is being rather slack...
BBC v BGS will be prove to be interesting.
I heard Barry Bester also experienced some injury trouble bowling early in the season, has he recovered?

Ive also heard this rumor that Barry and Jack, arguably two bowlers who would comprise in the top 3 in the GPS competion are suffering from hand and groin injurys respectively.
