Julia's Reign

Done that

In a couple of months if Jooolia can't turn it around, there are a heap of back benchers that are doomed if they allow her to stay on.
Don't ever under estimate self interest.
It was all about self interest yesterday, by all involved, & has been for some time.
The leaks from his faction to the media , since his dethronement , are clearly all about self interest, & designed to reflect badly on Julia, but he's been outmaneuvered.
Rudd will no longer be of any political relevance as a future PM.

Yesterday was their chance. None had the balls.
I still think Crean must have taken a calculated decision that he was going into no man's land with no cover for the good of the team. he has, I think, almost single handedly destroyed Rudd's legitimacy.
gillard owes him one, whereas she seems to blame him.
We are in Hindenburg territory now.

Rudd was unsure that he had enough support to give him a clear majority , but after negotiations with Crean , Rudd & his supporters believed that with the aid
of Crean's supporters they would have the numbers.Unfortunately for Rudd , ( & Crean ) , Crean's supporters surprisingly , didn't get behind him.
There is no way that Gillard can support Crean after his criticisms of her leadership yesterday.

Gillard had to sack Crean for saying that he would support Rudd in a ballot and nominate himself as deputy leader. But yes, Rudd's supporters must now have to accept that their man is bloody-minded beyond all reason. Mind you, it was only a year ago that we had the last ballot, so who knows how much more wreckage he can create in six months. Six long, long months.

Well that bloke Katter needs to pull his head in an vote with the other independents on a vote of no confidence in the government so we can avoid 6 months of this crap.

For just a moment, I thought a Rudd-Crean leadership could have legs, a kind of "unity" ticket. Perhaps with some more time for negotiation it could have been thrashed out. Though I doubt Rudd would have accepted Crean as his deputy - he would have earmarked that role for one of his long-term offsiders.

Wilkie was on the radio this morning saying he would continue to support the government in no-confidence motions except in the most extraordinary of circumstances. If that requirement wasn't met yesterday, I'm guessing we're stuck until September. I don't think the independents want to vote themselves out of a job either.

So this is the Polar Ice Cap melting, not a spectacular flash in the pan event like a Zeppelin catching fire and blowing up in a matter of seconds.

This is like one of the Channel 9 extra super slow mo replays of a catch at Gully in the Boxing Day Test. We know what the result is, and there is absolute clarity of all of the events leading up to the catch being taken which was captured at 1000 frames per second, but played back at 4 frames per second in perfect 1080 HD vision.

Bowen has resigned from the cabinet: http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/the-pulse-live/politics-live-march-22-2013-20130322-2gjkw.html

Wilkie, of all of them, should be safe: I can see Oakeshott/Windsor shitting themselves about their re-election prospects and that would justify continuing to support the government.

Have you listened to the narration? It could have been written for what we're going through. People trapped in their fate unable to escape - or something like that.

Hugh, do the 9 network ever broadcast the cricket in HD?

Boyo, at my age I should rejoice that I can actually see TV without Mr McGoo Coke Bottle Glasses. I thought that I'd slip in 1 reference to 1080 HD to sound like a tech head that knows what they are talking about.

I really have no idea about channel 9. Apart from the Cricket and ABC Shute Shield rugby, there isn't too much that I watch on FTA. More than enough variety on Fox (christ knows I pay enough for it, so I might as well watch it).

Those Ch Nein cricket super slow mo pictures do look pretty clear though, whatever format they are in.

The blood letting is continuing.

It's like some sort of Masai tribal ritual.

I don't think the Kevin Rudd thing is over. He knew he didn't have a clear majority yesterday and Crean had jumped the gun. If ministers continue falling on their swords you could very easily find the numbers are very much on Rudd's side in the next few weeks before parliament goes back.

Rudd is holding a press conference at 4:15pm.

Lemmings over the cliff.

Will the numbers in the Ruddsters camp finally be revealed by ticking off all those who resign or get sacked?

Hardly an indicator of a happy team unanimously behind the great and brilliant Leader.

This from a Government that has the gall to call a few drug cheats almost being found out “The Darkest Day in Australian Sport”

It might well have been “The Darkest Day in Australian Sport” when that fool was appointed Minister for Sport.
If she was smart she would say nothing, and people might only think she was stupid.
Opening her mouth removes all doubt.
London to a brick on, that she will have the gall to be front and centre at the SOO this year.
it comes as no surprise that she is a senator.Accountable to no one.
