Our innings has been frustrating so far. Cowan and Warner got us off to an excellent start, but neither batsman went on to score a hundred. I am not sure what Warner was attempting when he got out, and Cowan again gets himself out playing a lazy shot. Unfortunately Hughes is a liability at the moment, he really is all at sea.

Yet again poor support from the middle order save Smith, who is looking quite comfortable. I would like to see Smith and Starc stick around today, a good hundred from Smith would be worth it's weight in gold.

India playing for the win despite losing a day. They could be 250 ahead by the end of today and put Australia in to survive or try for a win. Hopefully they make a sporting declaration.

Test 4 is underway. Clarke has succumbed to a bad back, leaving Watson to be come test captain 44. In case that's not farcical enough, we pick maxwell on the hope that his 2020 prowess suddenly becomes test match quality, why not pick kawahja. We need more batting ffs, our bowling is pretty much shot whoever we throw up on these pitches.

It's alright though, we can all relax, Warner has volunteered to be captain. Mickey gave him a gold star or his press conference performances this week. Only one more gold star and he will qualify for the capatincy. Mickeys working up an extra credit assignment for him right now.

I'm gutted, hopefully this is the low point but I fear it will get worse before it gets better.

Wasn't the low point 2 years ago when we were humiliated in the Ashes?

How well the players bounce back against the poms will be big. For now I am ok with sticking my head in the sand and blaming the conditions and how poorly sides generally do there. If the Ashes results are similar Arthur needs to go. Foreign coaches must love coming here to get overpaid and poor results are acceptable, all they need to do is drop the term rebuilding and it's all sweet . Fuck.

The Ashes may not be the predicted disaster many are forecasting.

The Poms couldn't even beat NZ in a 3 Match Series. In fact they very nearly lost the Series 0-1, but for a match/series saving display of resolute batting from the lower order on the last day of the last test.

If they can't beat NZ, who must be 6th or 7th ranked Test nation, then we must be at least an even chance against England.

Feel really sorry for the current Australia management and Clarke. They build a team with established players, Those players hanged on and were late so cemented due to their seniority it was difficult to get any new blood in. That team coached itself. Exactly what we went through in PdV era. You end up with retirements of those guys and you sit with 8 9 new guys to get in and demand to perform at the international stage in some of the hardest parts of the world to play cricket in. Surely you can't expect miracles.

Yeah right, you're forgetting that NZ are a far better team that you lot only managed to draw with a couple of years ago

We may have hung on in the final test but we dominated the 2nd test and probably would have won the 1st test too if not for the weather

The first Ashes series is in England (not Australia) and i'll wager the Aussies will struggle with the swinging ball even more than they did the spinning ball in Indian conditions

Oh happy days

A pretty blatant troll from Oz-pat, but I still feel like I need to answer a few of his points.

That is patently false. Remember NZ's performance in South Africa late last year? That was straight up embarrassing for all concerned. They were pretty shit back then, and still are pretty shit now.

We may have hung on in the final test but we dominated the 2nd test and probably would have won the 1st test too if not for the weather
That is also rubbish. NZ had a 300 run lead after the first innings in the 1st test, and didn't get a chance to bat again. And you skittled NZ well enough in the first innings of the 2nd test but they were rebounding nicely in the 2nd dig.

The first Ashes series is in England (not Australia) and i'll wager the Aussies will struggle with the swinging ball even more than they did the spinning ball in Indian conditions

Traditionally this is also rubbish. Plenty of our current players have played (and succeeded) in English conditions. Only a few had ever been to India.

I was going to post something similar Barbs, but I figured it would be best to let it through to the keeper!

Anyway, we have a couple of months to reassess the team and Aussie cricket before we head over to England. The boys will be hurting from the India tour, and I hope it spurs them on to better things.

For me though, the wheels really fell off our tour when Dhoni scored his double century. He single handedly ripped the heart out of us - then guys like Pujara, Dhawan, Vijay and Kholi finished us off with the bat. Not to mention the Indian bowlers; they bowled to a plan from the outset and never relented. The Indians knew that spin was their advantage and really pressed it home.

Spin is the achilles heel of the Australian batsmen at the moment. Most of our bastmen do not have the technique, patience or temperament against good spin attacks. And a part of the reason is that our batsmen are not regularly exposed to good spinners on spin friendly tracks. So they find the going tough when the pace is taken off the ball.

England don't pose that problem. Yes they have Swann and Panesar; but their bowling strengths rest with their quicks.

hahaha, an unsurprising response from an Aussie cricket fan. I suppose you are one of those fans that believed that the Aussies were unlucky to lose the recent test series against South Africa

That is patently false. Remember NZ's performance in South Africa late last year? That was straight up embarrassing for all concerned. They were pretty shit back then, and still are pretty shit now.

They are a different team at home, this current NZ team would beat the Aussies comfortably in their own back yard

That is also rubbish. NZ had a 300 run lead after the first innings in the 1st test, and didn't get a chance to bat again.

We had a lead of 140'ish for 6, that would have been taken close to 200. I doubt NZ would have chased that down

And you skittled NZ well enough in the first innings of the 2nd test but they were rebounding nicely in the 2nd dig.

They were still 50 or so runs behind with two down. I think it's pretty fair to say we would have chased down the total they posted

Traditionally this is also rubbish. Plenty of our current players have played (and succeeded) in English conditions. Only a few had ever been to India.

hahaha, that's the post of the year!! Which current Aussie players have 'succeedeed' playing tests against England in our conditions!! Phil Hughes,Super Mitchell Johnson, Ed Cowan?????

As opposed to one of those English fans who think they were unlucky not to beat NZ?

Phil Hughes has only played a few tests in England, but has a very good record at County level (I said 'English conditions', didn't mention tests).

Cowan did fairly well on the recent Australia A tour.

But honestly I feel like arguing with you is like banging my head up against a brick wall, so I will stop now.

How about our Aussie cricketers start playing like Australians;

Get in behind the ball and protect your wicket like your life depends on it
Shut your gobs and your piss weak attempts at sledging and bullying, you have zero to back it up and you're embarrassing our country
Ditch the shades or sunglasses as we common folk call them and show your eyes....it's courtesy and a show of a man
Get tight and stop the petty ego driven infighting or leave
Close your Twitter accounts, piss off the earphones, ban texting.....- try talking to each other, form relationships and build team spirit
Get in the gym, sweat and get fit so you can perform against the Poms
Punch the bag or each other, I don't care but get some aggression into you
FFS work out who's in charge and quickly....is it the captain or the chairman of selectors or high performance manager or coach or CEO?
Introduce a ban on tattoos
Give us an inkling that you friggin care about how you are performing.

I agree with some of that, namely:

Get in behind the ball and protect your wicket like your life depends on it
Get tight and stop the petty ego driven infighting or leave
Get in the gym, sweat and get fit so you can perform against the Poms
Introduce a ban on tattoos
.

but not

Shut your gobs and your piss weak attempts at sledging and bullying, you have zero to back it up and you're embarrassing our country
I don't mind a bit of chat in the field, as long as they don't take it too far. I'd suggest that IS 'playing like Australians' and I think being aggressive can work well in the right context. And you yourself say later "Punch the bag or each other, I don't care but get some aggression into you", you can't turn around and criticise when they DO show some aggression on the field.

Ditch the shades or sunglasses as we common folk call them and show your eyes..it's courtesy and a show of a man

What, on the field? So they aren't allowed to shield their eyes from the sun? Agree it's a bad look in interviews, but beyond that I fail to see how it affects anything.

Close your Twitter accounts, piss off the earphones, ban texting...- try talking to each other, form relationships and build team spirit

This is a bit silly. Of course they are talking to each other, they are on tour for months every year, virtually in eachothers pocket. Banning outlets like music or communication with the public/relatives is a recipe for disaster.

FFS work out who's in charge and quickly..is it the captain or the chairman of selectors or high performance manager or coach or CEO?

I don't think the current issues are caused by no-one knowing who is in charge. The problems arise when the people in charge make poor decisions, and those not in charge don't adequately follow the instructions given by those who are.

Give us an inkling that you friggin care about how you are performing

Like what? Crying in the streets? Sure some of them batted as if they don't value their wicket, but they have made plenty of public statements that show they are fairly embarrassed. I'm not sure what more you want.

Barbarian, with all respect we are poles apart.
You don't seem too bothered by the culture evident while I find it appalling, with real concern it will get worse before it gets better.

Just out of interest, what is the evidence you have of this 'culture'?

I don't doubt the team has issues, but I think they have been a bit overstated. Only a few months ago we towelled Sri Lanka, nearly beat SA and everything was peachy. And I also don't think music, tattoos and sunglasses has much to do with the current problems.

I think wearing sunglasses has to do with the sun not kulture. I'd suggest that an organisation that ignores the fact the culture that put us top of the heap for 25 years and imports a coach from outside it could be more to blame. Or a selection group that puts a bloke who's more interested in scoring a ton off 40 balls than taking the shin off the ball for the team is also more to blame. Don't get me started on the revolving door bowler policy. Or the continual picking of bowlers without long term fitness or miles in their legs for test series only to see them break down again. there is a lot wrong with Australain cricket and culture is a long way from the top of the list
