When will Horwitz and Roods be back from injury, and will we see them debut in Green for Colts or Grade?

Unfortunately cards are still being played very close to the chest down Coogee way so I can't help you.
I can only advise that Horwitz's injury is "long term", whatever that means.
Poor Roods has had a very bad trot with injuries for the last few years.
On the cusp of "greatness", being the "anointed one" who was in the ARU Academy, training with the Tahs in the off season, and in line for big things with Wicks in either Colts 1 or Grade, especially after the disappointment of missing the Schoolboy tour and test last year, Horwitz must be frustrated as buggery if he has suffered a "long term" injury.

Assuming they do recover from their injuries I would expect coach Kelly to play both of them in grade at some stage as he's shown already that he's prepared to give the young guys a go in grade. Especially before the season hots up with the return of the S15 players.

Get down to Coogee tomorrow as the Wicks v Easts is always one of the best games of the year with the traditional rivalry between the 2 teams ensuring that no quarter will be asked or given across all grades. Even if you don't support either team it's worth attending. And the playing of the Last Post by Dominic Longhurst from Newington (member of the National Australia Band) will be spine tingling!

I can't get there but it sounds like it will be a great day!
Inspired by the coach, the magnigicant Autumn Day and a little ANZAC spirit after Dawn Service and a wee nap, I ventured to Coogee Oval today.
David Horwitz was spotted in 2nd grade wearing #18 as inside centre in the second half making his Wicks debut. With what appeared to be a rather heavily strapped knee which didn't seem to hamper his movement on the field, he seemed to perform adequately if somewhat unspectacularly. A couple of mistakes, and a couple of good things. No real hint of nerves. Things will get better for this young fellow with more time on the field.

For $15 dollars on a beautiful sunny day I had the great pleasure in watching five very good games of rugby. All but the last game were won by wicks.
In the third grade I saw what was probably the tallest second row combination in Australia one a mere two metres and the other two point one (6'11") also a very nifty easts full back - h Bennett.
The second grade had two number sevens on at the same time ( 6&7) and they both played well. My points would go to the six for wicks.
The main game was started with a minutes silence and excellent trumpeter playing the last post. Very emotional for the large crowd.
To the game
But for a woeful twenty minute stretch by wicks in the first half, when easts ran in a quick twenty points, the teams were evenly balanced with cut and thrust by both sides. Easts were very good at the breakdown and managed , somewhat brumby fashion, in disrupting wicks and causing them to make many knock ons .
Wicks went wide often and looked threatening but easts defence was up to it. A 27 to 17 score line seemed like a fair result and easts should be congratulated on getting the turnovers when it mattered.
What a great day.

Wicks 17 Beasts 27 (4 try bonus point). Didn't get all the Scorers. but for Beasts Taumoepeau scored from a pushover tighthead, #4 Stamford Scored in first half, #14 Lavin scored off a half decent back line move and ? got the fourth. One penalty and a couple of conversions to #10 Henry Hudson.
For Wicks Try to someone and #1 Asa (try of the day) 2 conversions and one penalty.
Some random thoughts.
Coach Kelly has a bit of work to do. Wicks could have got a lot closer but for numerous errors (knock ons and turnovers). He must be very frustrated because many opportunities went begging. Credit to Easts defence which was massive and very well organised.
Easts were never going to lose this game but Wicks could have got a lot closer but for poor execution.
Wicks scrum was a liability and made it difficult to get any go forward.
Baldwin came on for the last 15 minutes and looks (and plays) a bit like a young Pocock. When the Wicks bench was on, they seemed to be a bit more cohesive.
Beasts were well lead by Taumoepeau. Wicks seemed to be a bit leaderless.
Spotted: ( I think) - Servo Pulveriser. If it was him, then bravo and some of the words about grass roots may not be the rhetoric we are used to hearing from JO'N.
BBQ: Could be much better. Poor organisation and staffing had queues like that for the ladies toilets at a rock concert.
Crowd: Good. Vocal at times.
Parking: Terrible.
Ground Announcements: I'm old and 1/2 deaf but the PA was shizzen: muffled and incomprehensible. On previous visits, the have held a Welshman announcer and a PA that could be heard. This time - FAIL.
Toilets: Clean and well lit. Could be better sign posted.
Playing surface: Appeared to be in perfect condition. Well done Randwick Council.

There is a lot of talk about the size of Skelton at uni. I'd like to see him next to that fellow.

Unlike Jack's Beans, fellows of that length do not grow overnight and must have been spotted previously.
I did note that in the 2nds, the long boy didn't appear to be lifted in the lineouts. Not that he needed to be.

I couldn't add anything to the very good match reports above.
The Wicks turned over far too much ball on 1st and 2nd phase to be competitive with a very patient and composed opposition.
A fairly tame game compared to some of the fire and brimstone these teams have turned on in the past.
I agree completely with the comments about the ground announcer. The guy who did the job in 3rds and 4ths was easy to understand so there's nothing wrong with the equipment. The Welsh ground announcer mentioned above is a mate of mine and I sat next to him today. He couldn't believe how bad the GA was.
Carrick-Smith is on loan from Exeter Chiefs (UK) which was Wade Kelly's former club.
Parking is always a problem on a sunny day at Coogee; something to do with the beach apparently!
Horwitz's appearance was a surprise to everyone (see my earlier post about cards played close to the chest!).
Can't wait to see him in a full game, fully fit.
The Wicks have received a grant from the NSW Government to improve the BBQ facilities so hopefully it will get better!
See ya next week -- I'm heading to Mudgee with Mrs Coach to drown my sorrows at the Go Grazing wine dinner!
