Do you think that there could be some changes now Servo is in charge with his new management structure?

How has everyone gone getting tickets? I know a few Lions supporters who have landed tickets, one is an Irish bloke at work who has managed to chalk up at least 8 tickets on his own - he's lived here for about 2-3 years and has been a reds member, so he's entitled to buy tickets allocated to Aus supporters.

I've got a feeling that wallabies supporters will be seriously outnumbered - just like the first test in 2001, if not worse...

This Lions tour will have more British and Irish fans than ever before, yes the recession is hitting them hard. I know that most of the Irish fans from the World Cup still have not returned home and are planning on staying as long as possible in Australia and New Zealand. Most did there year in NZ and are now doing there 2 years in OZ. They may want to go home, but even there Parents are telling them they are not allowed to come home as they won't find any decent work.

You will still get all the older fans who go on all the tours.

Munster fans you will always get the few that say they shouldn't from Cork, after all it is one of the area of Ireland that hate all things British.
we told the Irish fans that "the airports left" when they asked for directions............They are waiting for it to come back so they can fly back home again.....:) ....the Scots didnt pay for a return ticket so theyre still here :p and the Poms are STILL camped on my living room floor for free.... ..said they wanted to catch up for two weeks only???? :D I can here some howling in the garage out the back...........think thats the Welsh!!!

Is there a reason we no longer play waltzing matilda at test matches? That used to be the best thing ever and would get the crowd pumping. Someone here with connection tell the ARU to get it going again! I used to remember singing it at home.

The IRB stopped allowing us to do it.

Aside from the anthems, the only thing they allow is a traditional dance i.e. haka done by the All Blacks and the various Pacific Islands.

That's pathetic. I love the way we are berated if we don't 'respect' the haka enough and yet we aren't allowed to play waltzing matilda for the enjoyment of fans and to show pride in our nation. How can that not be classified as discrimination? Why are the Kiwis entitled to perform a traditional dance that intimidates the other team and we are not allowed to sing an old folk song that has no bearing on the other team whatsoever?

I think that is the reason right there.

One has history and tradition and then other has none of it. Whilst I didn't mind Waltzing Matilda, I can see why the IRB would get rid of it. I wouldn't be giving the home organisers the potential to put in whatever entertainment they chose between the anthems and the kickoff.

History and tradition? It was written in 1895 and once considered for our national anthem. Its not like its some hip hop song that has skyrocketed to the top of the charts in the last 5 years.

The haka has now become overused, it wasn't originally intended to be performed by the team at every match but rather at the important ones but I feel it is now a tool to simply command the absolute respect of the other team whilst blatantly intimidating them. And yet we are not allowed to reply with a 120 year old folk song? Its hardly a damaging form of entertainment. We aren't cutting off a Kiwi Birds head or something but simply engaging the crowd and showing passion for our country as the haka intends to.

The song might be nearly 120 years old but it is still an old folk song.

We have no history or tradition of it being performed before battle or international sport or anything like that. Its only history is from a few years of being performed before Wallaby games to gee up the crowd.

I would guess that if a side wanted to add a traditional dance before a match now they wouldn't be allowed to. I think it is more of a case of limiting whatever isn't already part of the tradition than allowing new traditions to be created.

The IRB's actions were merciful. Waltzing Matilda was great for a couple of seasons, then it got old very quickly. There's nothing stopping the crowd from singing it unaided - they just don't. Other than the anthems, singing or chants being led by the PA always seem a bit lame.

I'm really sad that the idea for The Troup was shot down before it had a chance to get off the ground.

Such a good idea...

gee up the crowd.

Thats exactly what the haka is for... I honestly don't see why it is a problem? It is not insulting anyone and has no bearing on the other team unlike the haka. Why are you so negative about something that is clearly positive for our fans and players?? Let the ARU decide if it is no longer appropriate or out of sorts with the fans. The IRB has no right to impose such a ban.

I would really like to see the English fire up a maypole and do a morris dance with bells jiggling and hankies waving in response to a Haka. That is the Soap Dodgers traditional dance isn't it?

You could always go for the traditional Indigenous War Cry, don't know if it'really is going to have the intimidation
of the Haka though.

Not sure where to ask this but figure here will do. Just heading up to Brisbane for the day on Saturday, does anyone have any suggestions for something to do between 10am and the early afternoon? Need an activity that will keep me out of the pub!

No idea if this is the sort of suggestion you were after but you could check this out JSRF10

http://www.museumofbrisbane.com.au/whats-on/130-years/

I was thinking of checking it out sometime on Sat whilst in the city before the game.

JSRF10 There's also a Premier Grade game on at 3pm a few kms from Suncorp. Wests vs Norths. Certainly not a battle of the heavyweights but it would pass a couple of hours.

EDIT: I got this info off the QLD Rugby site - not affiliated with either club etc. But I was only just reading an article that made me think maybe this game has been played early perhaps? It was the only game scheduled for this weekend so maybe they've already played it So everyone can get to the big game Sat night? No idea anyway is what I'm trying to say. Sorry mate!

Scoey cheers for the suggestions, flying in early from Sydney and not meeting up with the group I'm going to the game with until mid afternoon so anything is helpful! Though I have say Sully trumped the museum!

Haha! Yeah I was never going to be able to compete with L&R! But hey at least the Museum thing is Rugby related - albeit it QLD Rugby. ;) Enjoy the game mate, I know I will!
