I can sympathise with the challenges faced by SJRU in establishing and maintaining viable competitions at U15 and above.

It is often claimed that one of the reasons of having a NSW team at nationals called the "SJRU team" selected from kids who may have played SJRU rugby at some stage in U14 or U15 and not necessarily in U16's is to maintain a persona that the SJRU competition is strong and important.

There are some who would claim that it is just so Committee members can strut around various places in their SJRU branded clothing looking and feeling important. Others would also observe that the Committee members sons seldom miss out on selection.

There is a very strong argument to have the Colts run a Colts 4th Grade and an Under 85kg competition for the U16, U17 and U18 age grades while SJRU stops organising competitions at Under 14 level. That seems to be about the last age group where the SJRU traditional village club model works and works well.
SJRU have slowly eroded their own credibility, no one has done it to them.. Hugh I suspect that the focus in those ages may shift towards 7's rugby rather than looking to add more layers to the current format. 7's development will have to be where the ARU sees bang for their buck. The sheer nature of the 7's games ability to churn out heaps of product on a regular basis ( t20 ) has to be where a cash strapped ARU sees its chance to get a greater sniff of the tv / advertising dollar. Being an Olympic sport just makes it even more obvious.. But of course what lt looks like, who runs it, who plays in it etc.. Will determine whether a great opportunity to prosper goes begging.

You may be right about SJRU Brainstrust.

Any organisation that allows self interest and self importance to rule is destined to disappear up its own fundamental orifice. Sad because they seem to do not a bad job with the Under 10's and Under 11's.

CJRU seem to have had their CJRU championships and named published a couple of the rep teams on their web site.

No Under 16 reps yet? Any idea when they will announce the team?

just observing a curious fact. I know for balancing the draw a random team is needed, but if this is the best idea they can come up with then heaven help us!

Inbreeding is the problem - SJRU & NSWJRU appear to be sub committees of each other. As to inability to stick to a hard decision, you only need to talk to anyone involved in the round 4 / 5 regrading fiasco. "NO APPEALS" on regrading got thrown out the door rather smartly by the committee because their own clubs were bellowing the loudest. The good of the game was quickly replaced with save my bacon! Best advertisement for removal of a board ever.

Hugh,

The U16s were announced at the end of the Country Champs, and trained at the All ages camp last weekend. They played Gordon district last Sunday, looked good. I don't know why their not on the Country Juniors site.

& of course GPS - which is now effectively a 6 team comp get 2 XVs into the Schools U16 trials on weekend of 23 June, meanwhile CHS get a solitary XV - oh well..
What you doin' MOTH? Just trying to get me going?

I have posted elsewhere that on the basis of the amount of support given to both the NSW Schools RU to run the U16 Trials by the ARU, and for the JGS programme, the ARU should exercise some muscle and claim the 8th spot. Presidents B should be the "best of the rest" made up of boys in the JGS programme from any school association, Country or City Juniors, or even a mungoballer that the ARU are trying to convert.
That way each association gets 1 rep team, and there is still an opportunity for the overlooked but deserving kids to get in front of selectors on a "relatively" equitable basis.

Team had been announced and was on the website with the 17 s at the beginning of May.
Knowing that the main event for this age group is the Nationals, maybe there will be a NSW 1 and NSW 2 team!!!! Just speculating, as no details have been posted regarding the Under 16 Nationals as yet.

FFS, when is NSW RU going to grow some and sort the pathway out.

It seems to me that there are too many WII-FM organisations looking after their empires and power bases in Schools and junior rugby.

There is only one player pool. ALL 15 year old boys go to school. Some play regular school rugby, some play regular club rugby, some do both, some of the players in these groups live in Sydney and some do not.

Competing for these players are the following entities:
Metro District/Country Zone Rep teams
SJRU Reps
NSW Cnty JRU Reps
AAGPS
CAS
ISA
AICES
CHS
CCC
NSW Country Schools
NSW Schools RU

Each one of these organisations have management structures (mostly volunteers) who are very keen to provide the best rugby experience to the boys falling withing their fiefdom.

Plenty of kids are eligible for 2 or more of these organisations/pathways.

It seems to me that the peak body (some peak body, any peak body) needs to coordinate the efforts of these disparate entities in the interests of efficiency and effectiveness.

Not sure what you mean MOTH by "decipher".

The process looks very similar to last years, just with different names obviously, or are you questioning the selection of the kids because some deserving kids may have missed out on being named in the Nth vs South trial.

As seems to be traditional the selectors announce 2 trial U16 teams who play as curtain raiser to the CHS v CAS Opens games. From there the selectors narrow the team down to the 23 kids who represent CAS at the NSW Schools U16 trials/tournament at Knox over the 22-23 June weekend.

I know all that Huge - wondering who the kids are - are they any good and what positions they play? Any tipsters want to chance their arm and try naming a CAS U16s?

Who's looking forward to the state champs this weekend, apparently the grand final and the semi's are being played on the same day, meaning the grand final will only be 25min halves rather than previous years when it has been 30min halves. What are your thoughts?

Only 14s & 15s will play a semi & GF on Monday - 16s & 17s will only play a GF on Monday
