Thanks for your database skills George Smith. In Red are the 2013 Open Schoolboys Team Representatives that have been posted on Gaggerland.

Trial match for these boys on the evening on Friday 21 June. I think not.

Edit: Couple of changes to the "CV"'s

Nice work Hugh, but you missed at least two CHS I boys: Ed Craig - CHS I hooker. And Harry Rowe - CHS I #9. Also one AICES boy: Rohan Zebib - flanker.

Sorry. I had two goes at producing the list. Using a windows laptop. Explorer crapped itself halfway the first attempt, and I had to restart the whole process. I had Ed fingered as a CHS I boy in the first attempt. Overlooked in haste in the second attempt at the post.

Amend Tommy Sawden to append (2012: NSW Cnty U16)

Have I said I don't like PC's and windows?

Have you got an AICES listing Sideline Eye?

I'd like to get that team list posted in the NSW Schools 2013 Thread.

They are not exactly a powerhouse rugby association, however the boys are representing their School association, and deserve to be recognised in Gaggerland.

I hear on the grapevine there might be a training run this coming Monday night, and the additional Sydney trial match might now be Sunday June 30 at Grantham Park. Perhaps a clash with club rugby matches for the Sunday comp boys, or at worst backing up for two games, but better to be a club game and a trial on the same day, than a rep game and a trial.

Hugh, agreed, but useful to have the full story and recognise the lads. Sorry for not typing out, but here's the AICES team that played CHS 2nd XV on June 2 at Foreshaw Park.
(They are numbered top to bottom 1-21 as per their positions on the field. Sorry, the numbers got cut off)

Not only Frank Spencer but Heath Robinson also springs to mind.

For those unfamiliar with the works of Mr W. Heath Robinson click here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Heath_Robinson

Can these people make up their mind for longer than 24 hours?

Now there is Training for 41 kids AND a trial.

The 16 odd families from Manly and the Northern Beaches in the trials would need to be met by guides at the Spit Bridge to get them to and from Grantham. Like Guiness Stout, the folk from the Northern beaches don't travel too well. They firmly believe that they don't need to travel.

Suspect the training would be at Dural Park, Trial Game at Grantham.

To be fair, I'm speculating that the coaches might like to try out some combinations and see how the boys fit together in some positions before making a final decision, rather than rely totally on what they saw in the combinations they observed throughout the long weekend matches.

Given the mix of selections from various teams, it seems the selectors may have chosen the standout players, rather than the standout combinations. If so, I'd say that's a good thing.

Ha Ha, Monday Night at Dural. Very Clever.

They'll be looking forward to joining the rest of the Lemming Commuters on their Peak Hour exodus out of the City up the M2 towards the deep NW. The kids will probably get home for Dinner at about 10 pm. Bed at about Midnight. Brilliant.

Standout players vs standout combinations. Hmmm the Papahatzis experiment with NSW I from 2010. He went with combinations. Didn't work. Lovely theory but I actually can't think when it has worked in practice at schoolboy or higher level.

I recant. It worked with the Ella Brothers at the Wicks in the mid 80's. Any other examples.

Myself, I'd go with standout players and train them to work together.

Agreed. I just recall very clearly seeing many GPS sides back in my own schoolboy days with a full backline of Joeys socks, or Shore socks - or whoever the leading side was at the time - and wondering how it could be that one school could actually have all THE best backs in the 8 school comp. (do they still wear their own school's socks these days? I don't think so). Anyway, perhaps times have changed for the better...

.

Dural is a pain to get to in peak hour of an evening, even when you live close. Pennant Hills Rd is a nightmare. Couldn't they have chosen something more central like T.G.Milner, Macquarie Uni or Chatswood, for example?

I've had to come out of retirement for this thread. I've seen some political BS in my time, but the decision to have another trial for the 17s is the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed. From all reports, and scorelines Manly absolutely owned this year's comp. NOBODY in SYDNEY came close to them. The Coasties were the only ones that could give them a game. AND THIS with the team being a cobbled together menagerie of mates who just wanted to play some footy as Rah Rah has pointed out. If they were poms they would all be knighted by now!

The contact for the U17s is listed as James Lancaster. A quick google search reveals he is from Dural/Eastwood. Ah! Hold on...

Not sure who the other staff are but I would wager that there is more likely to be someone from West Harbour than there is from Penrith.

As for the two Southerns boys who this whole debacle is meant to give a fair go as they couldn't play at the weekend (unlike Lochie Adair from Norths who played with Wests or Declan Moore from Easts who played with Manly for example). Why is one of the main purposes of the whole weekend being over ridden by the interests of two boys from the shire? If you dig deeper into the selections for this trial, there are only 3 second rows (one of them being one of the 'disadvantaged' shire boys named in the squad). I.e. he is already selected!

The whole thing is a sham. As Hugh has said, the chosen ones have not performed and now the powers that be are looking at the most convenient way of destroying the merit system and appointing their pre-determined squads. The two Souths boys are a red herring.

Something needs to be done, and I hope that all those involved in this disgrace are reading this and squirming that they have been found out.

Feel sorry for those Manly U17 boys. While they were playing their hearts out in the State Champ Grand Final they had all their belongings stolen from Eastwood. Now it appears the real burglary is occurring with the Eastwood coach doing his best to steal all their hard earned Sydney U17 rep spots. It is criminal. Who appoints these clowns???

An ad like the one below calling for applications for Rep Coaches appeared on the SJRU Web site. This kicks off the annual process. From memory these appear around September/October 2012 for 2013 positions. By all accounts the process used to select the successful candidates is reasonably fair. I'm not sure how many applications that they receive. Juniors do have a policy, still in vogue I believe, that a Coach/Manager/Selector can not coach/manage/select an age group involving their son.

I don't think the issue is so much with the U17 coach, who seems to have found himself in the middle of this maelstrom somewhat innocently, and is probably just trying to do his best with little or no knowledge of all the other factors and issues surrounding the footy.

There would appear to be some flaws at the executive and committee level within the SJRU. Did they not adequately brief the selectors and coaches about the environment. Who is the Rep Coordinator now that Gus Gutteridge has gone "upstairs" to NSW JRU as rep coordinator? Never had this sort of problem when Gus was in charge of things.

Seems that Andrew Moore, 0406 383 783, admin@sjru.com.au is the VP Representative Rugby and Gary Paton 0412 550 926 development@sjru.com.au the VP of Representative Support.according to the Juniors web site.

Those upset with the situation are encouraged to send those good folk unemotional objectively worded emails.
Emotionally charged Rants work well on anonymous blogs, but will largely be ignored by the Committee members and in many respects will be counter productive.

REPRESENTATIVE COACHES WANTED

Just heard off another parent the trial match for the Sydney team is now sat 29th June .
A day before the opens carnival starts . If you was in the a school team would u want to risk getting injured . Would the team management want their players playing?
Just glad my son is in the country team

If the dates from Sydney Rugby tragic's mate is correct, this is too good to be true and is now approaching the Keystone Kops. So far the saga goes:
1. 41 boys announced on the Web site. Several kids names were incorrect. Trial was announced for this Friday night at Dural. - 3pm Tuesday
2. Incorrect boys names corrected. Trial date has been moved to Sunday night at Dural - 6 pm Tuesday
3. Trial moved to Sunday 30 June, and a training session now proposed for Monday night at Dural - Wednesday nights version (Sideline Eye).
4. Trial Match now on Saturday 29 June. - Thursday night version.

How many more variations will we see in this little soap opera before it reaches its conclusion?

Credibility??

Why not? The same administrators who may have failed to remind teams that the changing sheds were not suitable to leave valuables in because there was a theft of cash and phones in 2012, also appear to have failed to tell teams that they must have players play in the numbers they were listed in in the programme.

The same administrators can "re-calibrate" the selectors lists when they sign kids on each match against the Player numbers on the sign on sheet. It is not too hard in theory yet somehow it appears to have been too hard.

both of those things are really common sense, never leave your bags in the change rooms during state cup, theres clubs that are known for stealing crap out of bags

wear the jersey you have in the program because the program is what selectors use to identify you, how else are they expected to do it?

Particularly when it came to SJC, since in your time you were privileged to see them beaten twice by the black and gold. Only happened once in my time and I wasn't watching.
