It is interesting to read the comments about the quality of the respective schools' 1st XVs this year as measured by the results. Remember, this year is a first with the 2 round comp, where teams now have 10 hard games to prepare and 'lift' for rather than the traditional 4 to 6 previously. There will no doubt be much reflection and learnings taken in the next few months. I suspect when we get past the various results some of the learnings may be around the S&C programs and squad sizes (depth & focus).
The 2 round comp will place greater need for schools' to think about a club (19 teams) focus rather than a single team (1st XV) only focus. Apart from an aberration here and there the schools with the greatest 'success' will be those who focus on the 'club' approach. It is interesting that Joeys maintains results throughout their grades ('club') rather than just a single team focus.
Some schools' have used 24-26 players in their starting line-ups this year with an additional 4-5 being used during a game. The lads coming on as replacements in the second round played in the 3rd and 4th XV in the first round due to injuries this season. Have these lads been prepared for the higher skill level and longer game time of the 1st XV game? This may be 'tested' in looking at the various scores of every game between each 10 minute stanza and especially the last 10 minutes.

Certainly not Depth.....? But definitely the loss of key backs such as Robertson, Jones and Rob Black (due to national rowing commitments) have certainly created 'glory' holes for which have not been penetrated well enough this year (mind the pun). For such dominating schools as Newington and Scots you can see the difference of how 1 or 2 influential 'better than schoolboy' players (Kellaway for Scots) and (Tepai and Taane for Newington) and the effect it has not only on the opposition but the team.

im glad they did the change he was wasted out there on the wing.
The Kings rugby staff certainly taught young Jones a lesson or two about priorities last year with his promotion to 4th XV for daring to want to play in the SJRU U17 GF with his Newport Club team.

Can't wait to see George Lehman from Kings and David Ballantyne put in a monstrous first hit of the kick off. But my favourite player from King's is THE James King, who does a fine penguin impersonation whenever he plays. TKS is Number 1 in GPS!

Interesting you say that considering they now hold the Joeys vs. Riverview 1st XV game at 11:15 for what was a result of old boys and alcohol! haha

Pretty sure that's what View do.
If you had ever had a drink there,you would realise that most of the biggest drinkers there are still fine to drive home.
They are nice guys,just talk about drinking beer,more than they actually do it.
Which pretty much fits in with their recollection of their Rugby careers.

Riverview would be liking their chances of an upset against scots ... So think this has to be match of the round. I don't know how riverview fared so badly in first scots encounter ... But I like the look of the view forwards.
Unlike joeys who have again picked a team of break aways, riverview looks more like a motley crew, that might go alright in a bar room brawl, as opposed to doing a good city-to-surf time
Think it is the big 2nd rower, bowditch that has always been good to punch holes and the hooker is much the same
And must say that impressed with quality of riverview coaching across the board.
What has happened to joeys in terms of old school props ... .? Someone like a nick ghattas ... Short, fat, smart and cunning ... Yes Sandell is sexy ....my daughter would no doubt love him.. But too much show pony and not enough mongrel, niggle
Shame about crichton, and his neck .... Although he is another one that hasn't got the venom, that certainly his old man had ...he was always up for a stink, even if he sometimes came off second best (so my grammar mates tell me)
Then again this red card policy, has made it hard to do much more than get into a push and shove fest

Anyways, for all the reminiscing of piggies bleeding like the good old days, i still think kellaway will be difference

Predictions for the weekend;
Shore V Kings - I hope Shore gets up for their first win of the season, Kings with injury's - this might be Shore's last chance this year......... still think Kings might get on top - Kings by 7
Joeys V New - Blockbuster at Hunters Hill ...... Joeys will be pumped at home its going to be a big assignment by the boys from hunters hill but im sure they have the heart to do it, New are a champion side and i cant go past them ........ new by 8 in an absolute blockbuster
Scots V View - View will put up a spirited fight but the boys from Bellevue Hill will be too good - Scots by 18
Interesting to note here that if Joeys did beat New and Scots beat Riverview Scots would be assured of at least a joint premiership even if they lost to New and Joeys in final two rounds..........

Good analogy re: Riverview's forwards SDW. However, my optimism regarding their prospects against Scots would be enhanced if Hunt was playing.
