Nice 100 by Smith :)

Exceeded my expectations, not just Smith, our whole batting in general, thought we were in trouble. Combo of English bowling losing its way & our middle order fighting back.

You were saying? :)
I reckon Smith will be around for a while. Improving player

Sarcasm is lost online. I put the mockers on Watson (go back and read my it all) and this was my attempt to even the books. It worked, you're welcome.

Great day of test cricket. England bowled well to have us 5 for 97 and we were thinking 170 was probably the best case scenario. Then Haddin and smith played great innings, they rode their luck as you need to in test cricket, Haddin in particular was brilliant in throwing off the shackles.

So what happened with the poms bowling, they were tight and pitched up in the first session but then dropped short. The loss of rankin hurt but there is really no excuse from broad and Anderson. Broad and Anderson? I can only think they were trying to emulate Johnson by intimidating the bottom 5 with short stuff then got carried away. Broad bowled two overs to Harris where there was only one ball not targetted at the body. Only stokes was targeting the top of off stump, and he got the reward. Even cook seemed to be on his own page, as there were a couple of times he moved square leg deep mid over for stokes, only for stokes to keep pitching it up on off.

As for man of the series, it has to be Mitch, the electricity he generates in the stadium is unbelievable. I haven't seen it live before myself, I presume Lillee had the same effect 30 years ago. And don't forget Mitch's fielding efforts on top of beat contributions with the bat and ball.

I'm back for d2 tomorrow. I suspect the poms will make a good fist of their first innings, but being bowler a short, it would seem they are in trouble unless they bat for a long time in their first innings.

IMO Lillee was incomparable - his 2 syllabled name was custom made for heart thundering chants with thousands beating the metallic boundaries.

There will be many cherished memories of this Ashes summer for Aussie fans but the remaking of Johnson and Lillee's mentoring of him will linger longest. Gone are the unpredictable and wasteful spells, Johnson's pace & unerring accuracy have been brilliant. A perfect example was the fact that every ball he bowled to Carberry today had wicket taking potential.

Nice work!

I am reluctant to even turn the TV on these days unless the poms are batting, I put the mocker on the batting team more than 50% of the time I reckon.

And probably three of them actually took his wicket but two were left unchallenged so only the third effort got the result.

Stokes gone. Well played 47. England needed a few more to do that.

16 runs England need to avoid the follow on I think.

I thought you might fool a few with that.

I got it (but then I was the one that responded to the Watson comment).

I think it's referencing that suspended bar from the cherry picker where people are strapped in high above the ground - sponsored by KFC?

Sounds appalling - I am not in a place where the ashes means anything - in fact I am feeling sick at the thought of it.
Edit - only sponsored, I had a picture of people being strapped in and forced to eat Zingers or whatever the marketing gurus have cooked up

Johnson is 11th on series wickets and 5 of those ahead of him played 6 tests. He needs 3 to go past McGrath and 6 to equal Warne. Interesting to read yesterday that he also has a better strike rate for winning MotM awards than both, partly attributed i guess to a weaker side.

Lyon really needs to develop an arm ball or wrong-un. Turning 6 good balls every over past the outside edge will be more dangerous if the batsmen has some uncertainty.

Are we really that good (more specifically our bowlers), or are England really playing that shit? I suppose we'll get the answer when we face the saffers.

Wonderful catch Clarke. I hear boos, must be Broad coming out.

Oh for Gods sake would the commentators knock it off already about the umps review, they have the benefit of the TV & replays, the guys out on the ground dont. "Oh it takes away the moment for the crowd when they review", you know what else ruins a moment? sending a bloke off the field when he wasnt out - better to be sure.

From what I am hearing from more knowledgeable cricket enthusiasts than me is that both is happening.
