fatprop, I asked around the ski school but couldn't find anyone using the Völkl Werks RTM84. I have found a couple of online reviews though:

Ski Canada magazine
VÖLKL V- WERKS RTM 84

LENGTHS AVAILABLE: 171, 176*, 181
129/84/111 18 @ 176
BEST IN: EDGE GRIP, STABILITY | AVERAGE SCORE: 7.6
A 7.9 C 6.4 S 6.5 W 6.9
MEN – Our Fernie test team loved this ski. An exceptional performer on-piste, the V-Werks ranked at the top in edge grip, stability and long-radius turns. “A solid platform to launch attacks on the mountain! Charge into any condition at any speed and claim victory,” stated veteran tester Mark Stein. “This ski has tons of life, massive energy out of the turn and it’s fast edge-to-edge,” added Steve Wall. With its sweet, pure arcs, this powerful and playful ski is best enjoyed by stronger skiers who ski more on the frontside of the mountain.

From what I've seen and read, they look like a great all-mountain ski and the stability on ice is a big plus for skiing in Australia.

Looking awesome for next week if anyone is heading down.

I wasn't at the snow last weekend as I was going to play in a charity fundraiser match in Jindabyne but I was struck down with viral bronchitis (no thanks to my boss for playing martyr and spreading it around work) and stayed home. Home this weekend to go in the Canberra Centenary rogaine - if I don't cough up half a lung in the meantime. Will be back at Thredbo on 23 August to enjoy all that snowy goodness that will be coming Monday to Thursday next week.

Bumping the thread, I would have to say that the 2013 season was 'mediocre'. There were good falls through August but overall it was three good weeks and Thredbo did not get the good snowfalls that Perisher received - the aspects of the mountains means that Thredbo does well out of north-westerly systems, which brings in a lot of wind blown snow off the main range. Most systems this year were south westerly, which helps Perisher.

The warm weather at the end of August wrote off the lower parts of the Thredbo, with Friday Flat having to close on 6 September.

However, the focus now turns to Canada and it's just over 10 weeks until I head over for 16-17 days skiing. Got a new Helly Hansen jacket and Orage pants for Canada, so there will be different colours for the ski photos. I'll be taking my Nordica skis over with me for the trip, so I got a new ski/boot bag as well.

Sounds great. Just booked a trip to Europe. Have to be in London for some work so will head there via Italy first and then Austria.

I completely skipped skiing locally this year. Pity because it ill mean exactly a year between hitting the slopes.

Next year will be better as I need to head to Vancouver for some work in March so guess what I'll be doing :)

I just remembered we discussed custom footbeds earlier in the thread.

I went to STM in Bondi Junction and had custom footbeds made. They feel great. They also stabilised the heels of my liners. Great service. They have obviously done this many times. Good guys. Highly recommended.

Oh man it's still a long time for me :(

You didn't miss much this year. However if you went mid-August it would have been worth the trip.

I'll post some photos from my white Christmas trip to the BC Interior to give you the taste for your trip to Vancouver. If you're up for a game of rugby when you're there I can put you in touch with the Legends old boys in Kitsilano.

If you are a strong intermediate skier,TC is undoubtedly the best when conditions are good. But it's not that reliable.
The best of the rest, and the most reliable is Cardrona.
They are both close to Wanaka, which is nice but is smaller, and has less off piste action than Queenstown.

I think the choice comes down to: if you're going for the skiing, stay in Wanaka, if you're going for the partying or other activities, stay in Queenstown. Treble Cone and Cardrona are the better options for skiing and Wanaka is a nice place with plenty of good restaurants and bars but is generally a lot quieter than Queenstown. If you want to bungy jump, whitewater raft, paraglide etc, then Queenstown is better set up for that.

Also save your pennies and do some heli skiing instead of the bungy, jetski, rafting bullocks

Although on a day when Mt Hutt was closed (a regular occurrence) some time in a stunt plane was fun. (hint just don't drink too much over lunch)

I enjoy Treble Cone, nice mountain, not big, but good changes in pitch. Cardrona is a bit flat.

If you have some time, a sense of adventure and don't mind basic facilities, try some of the club fields in Canterbury. Craigieburn is not for the feint of heart -what isn't vertical is overhanging. :)

G'day boys.

Just returned from 2 months in Europe, work and some holidays.

Did some epic skiing.

This is the Sella Massif in the Italian Dolomites. You ski a circuit which is about 24kms and you can squeeze it into a day with a short lunch break. Magnificent.

Alpe di Suissi is the highest skiable meadow in Europe. It just goes on and on and on...

Then we headed off for some more challenging stuff in Ischgl in Austria. This is the view back into Austria as you are about to cross down into the Samnaun valley on the Swiss side. On this ski, it was about 8:30am and the sun broke through as we skied down into the valley. Totally awe inspiring. Them be big mountains.

Skied with these in Austria

Hated them. Responsiveness was terrible. They felt "heavy"

That's my 2c.
