In my day a trip to Penrith was like an adventure - the "car park" (doubled as the local rugby/soccer/lacrosse field) might be a dustbowl or 2 feet under water.
The boats had to be carried down but more importantly up a ramp which was at 45 degrees.
The cox was not guided by lane markers all the way along the 2400m course - instead he had to aim at (and miss) a white sticker placed on the railway bridge which could barely be seen from the start - at which the starter's instructions could not be heard over the din of the ABC helicopter hovering for that earth shattering but "snowy" action shot.
Luckily saw the clip before deleted - somewhat different styles (rowing and hair ), weight (avg 74kgs!)and equipment 36 years ago.
