If Grammar want to have any sort of chance in the medium term they need to address the schemozzle that is their junior shed.

Something's gone awry at the Grammar shed looking at the results — two year 12's from last year's First VIII in the stern pair of the Second VIII, with duplicate names in the First VIII? Seconds competitive but the Firsts out of contention again. Maybe the yellow boat will bring them some joy.

If the stern pair have been dropped to the 2nd VIII, isn't this called stacking?

Where did you hear there back on? I was told personally by a rowing MIC some weeks ago they had been abandoned because everyone had gotten out of training in the singles at this stage in the season

Maybe the GPS rowing cabal aren't necessarily masters 'in charge'? The sculling trials and GPS seat racing event are worth the effort for the boys.

I'd say so, but they've been moved back up into the 1sts, judging from tomorrow's entries. Like Riverview and Joeys perhaps, leaving selection a little too late...

I can tell you it's back on, but only in part — four schools taking part, definitely Newington, not sure which other three; SIRC tomorrow evening is the plan.
Kings, Newington, Joeys and Grammar participated in the GPS sculling trial. The whole exercise seems a bit hollow. Looks like the overall GPS rowing spirit is a bit toxic.... It seems some like to have it their own way or it's a no show. Not sure including the SRC as a senior point score regatta was a wise move when schools are used to tapering down over the two weeks for the HOTR. Can't say what can be taken out of today's results except Shore were racing on their own with two of the possible contenders conspicuously missing. They were the only ones under 6 flat. Ah, me....

Doubt it, but maybe he has realised that the 1st VIII is off the pace, and is "blooding'''some of the talented younger blokes who had a really good crack at yr 10's last year.
That sounds okay. Dud the guys above and concentrate on the guys below. Be rewarding to row for Grammar.

The Scots yr 9 quads have been absent this year from regattas except for the 5th or 6th quad race.
Does anyone know what's happened to the other crews ( are there any) ?

They are at Glengarry the Year 9 campus in Kangaroo Valley in 2 x 6 month intervals, cuts the season in half................

Spotted today, late Sunday afternoon training row pure reaches parramatta river, duck creek, to be exact. Both V111 & coaching boat, couldn't see colours, into the sun. Any ideas what school?

Thanks Rob hart,

The Scots yr 8 quads have been competitive last year and this. Then having the interruption during yr9, must have an impact.
You will have to build a dam down there. :)

Ok guys - on Saturday Shore did a blistering 1.23 first 5 with a light tail breeze, while Joeys and Iggies had a training session. I would be feeling pretty good if I was in the Shore 8 after such a hitout knowing I can burn the opposition at the start (ipso facto no panic factor!).

I note almost all Shore crews (sans 1st VIII) at yesterday's NSW Head of River - times have changed :)

Congrats to Kinross with a very respectable time in the eights considering the wind.

Yep the Shore crew I suspect just practiced their first 750 and then settled back with not much else to prove to the rest of the field. They ended up a clear 10 secs ahead of Scots and even more to the rest. Pretty much the in form crew, just trying to rack up race experience before the big one. On the other hand, the two crews who can push them opted to train or rest up or give some time for injuries to recover (i.e. Joeys at the last H&C regatta).

The Kinross crew were slower than the Shore 2nd VIII time wise. Pretty much the same crew had a slightly big fish in a little pond row in the 3rd VIII at the SRC regatta the previous day…. Must have felt good about that one trouncing GPS 3rd VIII rowers.

Granted but then the Shore 2s have been faster than their 1s in the not too distant past. Good to see emerging small schools competing - more rowers equals bigger pool for the future. Hopefully something rugby can emulate. Also, not sure if smaller schools train as an eight. Anyway, bring on Saturday and hope to see something special from Iggies and Joeys in a fast close race!

In re to Kinross rowing 3rd VIII: Look at their program that day, same rowers raced SB 1st & 2nd IV and MU19 4+. Their 1st IV clocks times around the 6:46 mark. The eight is clearly their second priority and it was their third race that day. They travel quite a bit from Orange and try to maximize the value they are getting.

Gee… I'm sorry you guys have to maximise all that time. All the other schools are just having a picnic and don't want to maximise their time by training and racing in events of similar competition. You seem to miss the point that all the other competitors are there to race their grade. By all means race but what about going in as an invitational entry if the crew is, as you stated, so fast? Maybe if they waited four or five events they could have rowed in the SB 2nd VIII or SB 1st VIII. From the twitter account photo posted on the day "Kinross Wolaroi by daylight" https://twitter.com/SydRowingClub seems to suggest KW were whipping equal competition. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the KW and any other school's rowing programme. KW is producing great rowers and we're all the better for it.

Having attended one of the GPS schools were rowing was a major sport, to cast any aspersions on those non-GPS schools who put a mighty effort into giving their rowers an opportunity is a bit poor, fpiglet. It's all a game fer Chrissake, all the more the merrier. AND it gives the sport added depth which wouldn't've otherwise been there. Do you know there are NO girls schools in Sydney who have their own rowing shed? They've all had to beg, borrow and negotiate space in boys schools' and senior clubs' sheds around Sydney. But Sydney girls schools' efforts to take part in rowing pale into significance when put up against what some NSW country schools do to take part. Sydney GPS schools get it bloody easy in the rowing stakes.

The NSW country schools' commitment to trek out to local dams for training and then trek even further to regattas in Sydney or on the North Coast is to be admired. If Kinross Wolaroi wish to maximise their time at a regatta in Sydney and mix up their rowers among various crews, maximise away KW. Just don't ask for a start.
