I understand he has named West Harbour as his nominated club.
Irrespective, I am told that Ewen McKenzie has indicated ,for what it's worth, that he wants those S15 players who
are not actively involved in S15 matches , to play their club rugby in Sydney or Brisbane , if that is where they
originate.
The way that reads is players will come back to the Shute if they are not playing Super 15. Would I be reading that correctly?

Would that include interstate?

A latter day convert to the concept of respect for a player's club of origin. He didn't subscribe to that when he was in charge of the Reds.

That is a bullshit attitude and I would be very surprised if it is one that Link holds. Players could be playing Super rugby one week, return to Sydney/Brisbane from Perth/Melbourne/Canberra/Brisbane/Sydney the next, and be back at the Super team the following week. Ridiculous. (Would the Reds be happy if Robbo had to return in off weeks to play for Warringah, or whomever?).

The development of the game in non-traditional rugby areas gets a real boost from having these players turn out for local teams when not needed for Super games. Player development and development of the game itself is the desired outcome of the NRC. It would be counter productive to implement a policy of the type described above.

"a bullshit attitude", ??
It's not clear if you are referring to me for reporting it,or McKenzie for saying it in the first place.
At the risk of making you feel "very surprised" again,I can assure you it was said, irrespective of whether you personally think
it is counterproductive.
Has it occurred to you that perhaps McKenzie thinks it is more beneficial to his needs to have these players playing in a competition of a higher standard?
And in your haste to jump in ,you apparently didn't take time to read my post carefully,as I said "those S15 players who are not actively involved in S15 matches" ,i.e. not in the run on team & not on the bench ,or looking like they're going to be at this stage,of which there are a number.

Just to clarify, I meant the attitude attributed to Link, not your post.

I must say, I still don't understand the context. If the reference is not to Super players who miss out on selection during the Super season, then it must refer to post Super season when the NRC is due to kick in. What precisely does "or looking like they're going to be at this stage" mean? Is that a statement that is also attributed to Link, or is it your interpretation?

I quoted Robbo' case at the Reds because I can see that there will be occasions during the Super season where he is not in the game list nor on the bench. Same could probably be said for others like Ant and Colby Faainga, Matt Lucas, Tala Grey etc as well as quite a few who are in the Brumbies, Rebels and Force squads. Are these the players who should be returning to their original clubs under this policy?

If the comment relates to post Super comp, then there has been a whole lot of conversation on the relevant threads about sharing round the available talent, mainly seen by Tahs and Reds supporters as being excess at the three other franchises. Something will happen along these lines, but you can rest assured that not all imports at these three franchises will return to their original clubs, despite Link's reported preference and the envious howls fro Tahs and Reds fans.

Link is just giving public voice to a view expressed by many one here: the fringe blokes do not play enough rugby in a season, particularly the young ones with potential who need to learn the game.
And from his perspective they need to learn it in the hardest conditions they can.

Not much good if they go back to second grade in the SS as I'm guessing some would. In my view it is still totally impractical during the Super season, and afterwards they will be snapped up by or allocated to NRC teams. I really don't think you'll see any of them playing in the Brisbane or Sydney comps despite Link's reported interest in doing so.

I wish I could remember what Link said.
So the S15 clubs have got it so wrong that "some" of their contracted but not needed players would only be worthy of a game in 2nds in Sydney?
Tell me - are any of those players Brumbies players are they all 1st graders in Sydney?

My reference here was to a player like Dowsett, with the Brumbies but from Norths I think. I postulated that if he went to the Rays he would be behing Matt Lucas, therefore on the bench. But after yesterday's game, I think it would be a travesty if he was behind Lucas.

Behind Lucas and Swanapoel but all classy players

Wasn't sure where to post this. Elvis Taione has signed with Exeter for the 2014/2015 Aviva Premiership season.
