Having played against him, in Melbourne second grade, I'd disagree personally

it will be very interesting to see who if any regular club players get a gig.

i would expect that the NRC team will comprise the contracted rebels players and those in the extended/wider training group, rebel rising, U20's etc. in addition there are a number of victorians playing in the shute shield and john dent comps that will be on the horizon. i don't expect any surprises.

You could go some (relatively) oldies and look to guys like Rich Aho at Uni, but I'd rather see us go some youngsters.

Off the top of my head, Quins' 7 would be good and the young lock that captained them last year.

I believe the Quins 8 (maybe he played 7 being a bit on the small side) was training with the Rebels all summer when he could around work. I imagine somebody like him depending on positional requirements would be a good option.

And that would be either John (Prop/Hooker) or Chris (No. 8) Aho though. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Steve Fualau from Uni too!

Gus (the lock) is in Scotland IIRC.

Steve is an EPS Rebel so he will play.

Getting time off work (or study) will be a problem for club players. The NRC will require a lot more training and travel time.

I did hear that, but I presumed it'd be worth coming home for the ARC if the opportunity is there and seeing as he's still young enough to make something of himself.
i assume gus is angus hamilton who played OZ schoolboys a few years ago. might be chasing a scottish future

Gus Hamilton started for the Glasgow Hawks in their loss to Heriot, in the RBS Cup final. He was alongside Warriors development players Jack Steele, Gavin Lowe, and Finlay Gillies. Full squad members Tyrone Holmes also played for the Hawks, and Kevin Bryce played for Heriot.

He's been playing fairly regularly from the looks of it. I don't think he'd get a go with Glasgow. Swinson, Kellock, Gray Minor, Ryder and Nakarawa are a good set of locks, and with Gray signing a Fulltime contract, Glasgow are due a new EDSP lock. Might get a go at the Gunners.

He'd be WAY down the pecking order for Scottish locks with Hamilton, Kellock, Swinson, Gilchrist and both Grays far far far ahead of him. Atkins, Ryder and even Sean Cox, the English Edinburgh boy who's leaving would also be ahead of him.

If he doesn't pick up a contract somewhere, he wouldn't be bad option to chase for the NRC, especially since the Rebs need 2 new locks.

EDIT: Missed a couple of things.

Gus was selected in the Scottish Club International side: http://www.scottishrugby.org/news/13/12/16/club-international-squad-begin-season-preparations

3 articles from varying points in the year where the man is making breaks and playing well:

Andy Redmayne is the 6th lock, and EDSP for the Warriors. Is also Gus's locking partner at the Hawks.

Will see if I can get some of the old mans rugby contacts to give me more info, but I might struggle to get more than what I've got from the internet. Most of them are all over the place, and the ones still in the west are largely with Ayr now.

Sounds like a good buy for the Rebs.

A player who isn't good enough to play professional is Scotland is a good Super Rugby buy? What?

I'm not saying he isn't a player of potential (he is a Vic local too) but if the Rebels sign a player on the basis that they were somewhere near good enough to play Pro 12 (in a weak team), then the Rebels will NEVER be good.

He sounds like the kind of useful experienced guy who could be a great mentor for the Rebels NRC team, and if he is good enough maybe even a contract with the Rebels super rugby team.

He's 22 and with his play standard he'd be a good chance to start in the NRC. He'd be a young buck, not a leader.

Oh, from the sounds of what Highlander35 said I thought he was an old bloke not a young buck. My bad.
Nonetheless I think he deserves a chance to play in the NRC.
