To answer some of the questions above:
Quite a number of these lads intentions are probably already known because they are already playing regular colts rugby, or have turned out for a couple of cameo appearances before school footy started.

Look at the "Where are the Class of 2013 going?" thread to see which clubs are more active "in the market".
I can't see things being too different next season.

Nearly all clubs will have a Clipboard at Nationals, as will some of the mungo clubs and a variety of player managers. There is a protocol in place regarding how, and when, Accredited Player Managers can have contact with players at the tournament. The Clipboards may not be actively recruiting at the tournament, more window shopping. They would have had kids on their radar from what they have seen at the U16's and at previous NSW JRU state champs. They attend champs to monitor progress as the kids mature, and to "fine tune" and update their lists.

The "standard" scholarship offered to kids is much less than many think it is. The Top End seem to be worth around $5000 annually and these are more in kind than outright cash. Manly (International School of management), Gordon (UTS), Randwick (UNSW) have about 5 of these AFAIK. Sydney Uni Sports Foundation has a variety of Elite Athlete scholarships available with a few of these allocated to Rugby. These are apparently worth around $2-3k. Parramatta are working on an arrangement with a TAFE.

Even with all "that money and assistance", kids will be attracted to clubs that have a strong coaching culture, that their mates go to, and is geographically convenient to them. Having a previous junior Village Club alignment helps but is not essential.

Apparently halfback Harry Emery (Shore/GPS 3) was called up to NSW 2s bench? can anyone confirm

Allegedly the selectors chose a halfback called Harry, and the administrators mistakingly put Harry Rowe on the email that was circulated not Harry Emery.

Not sure if the correct Harry was rung on Friday night or not, but the list published in the Sun Herald sports pages today have H Emery from GPS and not H Rowe from CHS.

Did everyone pass medicals today?

Stephen Kirkby (CAS) is carrying a shoulder injury which prevented him from playing the last trial. There may be some other battered and bruised lads from last weeks trials.

This is bad news, I really feel for him. How long is he out for? Will it impact Riverview?

I genuinely think he's a chance to make Aus. schools, so this is really painful to hear.

Have they announced who the coaches are for the NSW teams and combined team are for 2014

Word on the street I have heard is that Luke Bower will be coach or assistant coach for the NSW 1 team, and Brad Gill will be coach or assistant coach for the NSW 2.

Saxon Bowles is becoming a super manager. In addition to Manager of Randwick Shute Shield team, he managed ISA 1's and has been appointed to one of the NSW teams.

That is all my snouts know. NSW Schools website still not updated. All will be revealed when the boffins sort the site out, unless G&GR snouts scoop the official announcement - again.

Do we know when and how the combined states team will be announced?

The Combined States team is a sweep up of all the lads who deserve a go at Nationals but may be stuck in the queue behind 3 top notch lads in their position in their State but despite not getting a gig for their State squads they could still be the 4th best in the country, or they missed out due to bad trial form (injury related or a ball hog inside them etc), or the old politics chestnut.

The CS team couldn't be announced until QLD and the other states announce theirs. The reality is that the ACT, VIC, and WA usually do not get too many in Combined States because they do not have the depth that NSW and QLD have.

The NSW and QLD teams were announced on Friday night/Saturday. Screening Medicals were held yesterday.

The Combined States selectors (mainly Manu Sutherland but I'd imagine Paul Curroza and others in the ARU Scouting network would be consulted) would have discussed their teams yesterday (probably phone conferences) and finalised them late yesterday. In both Qld and NSW some of the Shadow players would be getting called up to State 2's due to failed medicals from the weekend - There is always 1 or 2. This rules them out of Combined States consideration.

I'd imagine that Manu or the Coach be ringing the chosen/lucky ones this morning (a lot easier to track boys down on a Monday as opposed a Sunday), with the list to be formally released mid afternoon.

The while the NSW Web site is still "down", they may release the list on the Aust Schools web site, or they may use the shotgun approach that they did with the NSW teams and email it out to the likes of @Cattledog.

NSW Coaches/managers

NSW I
Coach: Andrew MOLONEY (Barker)
Assistant Coach: Luke BOWER (Cranbrook)
Manager: John GUY (Hunter Valley Grammar)
Physio: Narelle VEVERKER or Tom LOMBARDO (fairly safe bet it will be one of t'other)
NSW II
Coach: Greg THOMPSON (St Josephs) (or Asst Coach - TBC)
Assistant Coach: Brad GILL (Newington) (or Coach - TBC)
Manager: Saxon BOWLES (Oakhill)
Physio: See above

Where teams train is often a key indicator where the Head Coach is from. Where are the NSW II's training this week?

The match reports for the GPS v CHS etc etc games were a bit skinny because of the need to report on the Under 20s on the same day and going to test matches, and such.

Gaggerlanders should know that there was almost a perfect storm for the Lead Correspondent of the Worlds Best Rugby Blog, with the Jnr RWC finals on in Auckland, Les Blues Test in Sydney, the NSW All Schools Open's trials and NSW Schools U16 tournament to cover over the last 3 days.

We all appreciate the efforts that @Lee Grant goes to to coordinate and produce the blog articles. It is no easy task to produce such quality articles as we are accustomed to from @Lee Grant. These leave the mainstream media articles on rugby for dead (if you could ever find one).

"We loves yez all" @Lee Grant.

They apply for the positions. Nominations open in October. Applications close around March. The candidates are voted on at the NSW Schools RU AGM (March 14 this year).

Usually the successful candidates are announced on the NSW Schools Website. Publication of the announcement on the website didn't happen this year

http://www.nswschoolsrugby.rugbynet.com.au/default.asp?id=203350

Fairly safe bet that previous success at School, and/or with Junior Rep sides would be desirable characteristics.

Great report LG but a bit sad that only a short snippet for the Country boys particularly in their last year in the tournament, Yes the boys were certainly outclassed in the first half with the out sized country backs leaving gaping holes for CAS 2 to stroll through HT score 26-3. The Country boys tightened up in the 2nd half with the forwards in orange getting the better of the CAS pigs but this didn't help them when the much classier CAS backs got their hands on the ball, while as a consolation Country had the dominant scrum with the CAS front row hitting the deck on several occasions, the boys from the bush pushed over after continued pressure for a try late in the second half.
Country admin are in talks with ACIES (under that banner) to try and bring them together in some way for next year lets hope they can put a solid program together. I am sure there are many, many country boys at school in Sydney that given the clearance could certainly have made Country a force if released to play, even if it was once they had missed selection at GPS, CAs or ISA. It is a sad state of affairs for rugby to lose this proud association. The last hooray is a 14 day tour for the boys in development side in Singapore and Hong Kong next Easter, I hope they have a ball.
