Did anyone see a gentleman of a certain age, with a note book and a large camera lurking around Rat Park today?

We may or may not have a blog report on the days games depending on that sighting.
Can Lurk with the best.

Got to admit the camera is worth more than my salary and super!

Great report LG but a bit sad that only a short snippet for the Country boys particularly in their last year in the tournament

Sorry. I arrived after the start of the game and was organising myself with BBQ breakfast and talking with some cronies during the match and shooting the breeze.

Because I missed the start I didn't think I could do it justice.

im sorry this may seem unfair to sum, but tell me how the CCC boys won 3 out if 4 games losing the one by a short margin due to fatigue of back to back games and only one CCC boy considered! What a joke! Very disappointed as what I saw was excellent talent on that field in particular 3 boys in my opinion were standouts in the competition. Some if those boys play 1st grade colts however in the GPS dominated selections you picked 3rd grade colts players! With the lack of consideration for CCC players due to bias selections its a wonder why the CCC boys come back! I guess going from last years selections its a reflection on the selectors. Didnt the shadow team knock off team 1 ouch! And not to mention the only CCC boy selected you chose on the bench of team 2 this year made Australian school boys last year! Come on! Stop the corruption!

Probably because they played the weaker sides.
How many of the teams CCC played had players selected?
ISA 2 had one player selected as well.

There will be pretty tough competition for nearly all positions not just the #2.

What a joke Hugh! One one CCC boy selected on the bench if the 2's that same boy made Australian school boys last year! And tell me how the CCC boys towel up 3 of the 4 sides losing the only game due to back to back playing and fatigue not to mention a very small margin. There were 3 boys in the CCC team that were outstanding! You know who they are in particular the 1st grade colts players! How embarrassing but getting beyond the joke! There is no reason for the CCC boys to attend these selections due to the bias of selectors disregarding a far superior team they provide on the day! At some stage it gets found out especially like the example of team 2 last year beating team 1. Very disappointed for the CCC boys, but why would I know better than the selectors? I only played for the green and gold in my years but as usual a disappointing system saturated with a bias view not real talent

Flank, it's not just CCC. CHS 1st played a 20 to 22 loss to GPS 1st and the selections were 7 to CHS and 22 to GPS. The problems IMO is the conflicted objectives of the comp..

The private schools are trying to market themselves as centres of excellence in educating boys, they have to justify the costs. To do this some push rugby as an example (others ignore it), their teams are for all intents and purposes professional teams (in fact some professional teams don't have the resources these schools have). They measure outcomes in numbers selected.

CHS and CCC don't run rugby programs and rely on the club system, they are trying to promote rugby and trying to increase participation in the club system. They should measure outcomes by the increase in participation, there is huge potential here. They are essentially amateurs playing professionals, the contest will never be fair and the outcomes will never be seen to be fair. There is no point in trying to make it fair. This is doing a huge amount of damage to Australian rugby, the way this is seen by the bulk of NSW and Qld kids is that rugby has nothing to do with them.

IMO the two objectives are conflicted. CHS and CCC should follow AICES and Country schools and pull out. They should then run rugby promotion programs to increase grass routes club rugby and talent identification for the Junior Gold Squads. The ARU should establish an U18s championship (off the back of the U17s JGC) and select an Australian U18s team with the view of it being competitive with Australian Private Schoolboys within 3 years. Then there will be two clear pathways, and any boy in Australia can feel that rugby will include them.

I often wonder why, with all the excellent education both school and University rugby gets, that we are the stupid football code.

This would be a credible answer however I identified quite a few of the boys from CCC play grade for the colts in particular a few of the big boys playing 1st grade. They play outstanding rugby on the pathway to the super 15's. They should pull out and concentrate on the colts after all the Australian school boys and the GPS boys get put into 3rd grade colts when they get in the real world. They get found out their! I'm venting I know but cannot stand the unsupported talent and I've watched a few of the CCC boys towel these kids in the colts competition

They weren't given the opportunity to play the 'better' sides in case they embarrass the school boy rugby breeding grounds! Frances was the only player selected on the bench of 2nds and yet last year he made Australian school boys a year young! What a joke! & shame on the corruption of the selectors!

Would have liked to see isa 1's vs gps 1's, i think that could have been a very interesting game.

Agreed. Even if the program for the last day of trials stays the same (as seems likely, based on some other posts), perhaps the organisers could squeeze in this match somewhere earlier for an ISA v GPS match up? That would give a much better idea of how the various associations are performing in relation to each other.

I agree it's not a level playing field.
The only way around it is to have them trial as individuals, not representing an association.

Flank, I don't think that they are corrupt (I know you're only venting, I couldn't believe it when I first saw it 2 years ago).

The GPS, CAS and ISA train to a well worn pattern that works very well at schoolboy level rugby. The selectors are looking at selection from this position. CHS and CCC draw from club rugby that doesn't play to this pattern they play a more physical up the guts style, which as they grow wins (as you pointed out about the Colts mix).

Unfortunately when they get to U20s the "Australian schoolboy" style has stopped working altogether and we get our butt kicked.

Again, I don't think that they are corrupt they are doing the best they can looking at rugby from their perspective.

P.S along these lines good to see Kieren Bonin and James Wilkinson picked up in the Combined States team, they play more the way I think rugby should be played. Disappointing Ted Pye didn't get picked up, I think he's close to the best U18 half back getting around.

Hugh its absolutely corrupt on the basis it only directs the attention to a certain few in the competition and I dont mean the best, I mean the elite schools. I am unaware of Keiran as you mention is he a CCC boy? And again I will say at the end of the day the credible pathway is through the colts. And I suggest Hugh as you are a ARU component why not have influence in making this pathway a fairer selection and split the schools and do it by individuals. Its a disgrace this way. I personally watched the selectors get up and walk away each time the CCC team played. I payed particular attention to that as through prior experience and feedback from other Rugby heads they dont rate the NSW school boy trials as they for many years have been aware of the denied recognition of these boys! Can you justify Frances making Australian school boys by default last year to now be on the bench of the 2nds?? And I will say there were two other big lads not mentioning names I know deserved the selection & Im sure you know who they are from various backgrounds
