Of course, the previous mob were shining examples of that.......and their current representatives seem intent on diving down to an even lower common denominator than their predecessors!

Still talking about the last government? This is a Labor supporters response almost every time the agree with the criticism of the government. 'I know their bad but so were the other guys. We are talking about the ones that are currently holding the power, not the ones that are striving for it.

In response to your statement - you are correct of course, the Libs did plenty of 'pork barrelling', however I don't ever seeing come out more than 1 year before an election. This current government started two years ago!

This is where we are in desperate need of a moderate 3rd party. If the Democrats were still alive they would be killing it, because no-one wants to vote for the major two parties, but neither do they want to vote for parties on the extreme left or right- namely the Greens and Family First. Our credible alternatives to Libs and Labor are few and far between.

Totally agree barbarian. We need some centre politics. As much as the current major party leaders try to hide it, one is from a fair way right and the other from a fair way left. Everytime they go towards the centre they just lose votes further right or left (Labor are lucky to have the preferences often come straight back to them - so really should always be trying to politic from the centre).

Turnbull was the only recent major party leader that was genuinely planted in the centre. It is a real shame he didn't have control of the party and couldn't the whole message across, because I believe he would have made the next great priminister.

Off the top of my head I can only think of Ferguson from Labor as a guy from the centre and someone I wouldn't mind seeing as pm. Not sure if he has the drive/energy for the job though.

Lol I just liked this and then saw it was from 2010!

Well it is even more relevant now than it was four years ago.

Federal ICAC: corruption knows no borders
http://www.smh.com.au/comment/smh-e...rruption-knows-no-borders-20140731-zytfp.html

"It is time the Liberal Party accepted that corruption among politicians, public officials and businesspeople is not confined to the states or to its opponents.

Both sides of politics are facing a crisis of trust with voters, who recognise that federal and state organisations are intertwined and that holes in the nation's anti-corruption defences are easily exploited.

Labor, rightfully bludgeoned for its failings, has also been complicit in blocking attempts to create a federal anti-corruption watchdog modelled on the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption.

But at least NSW Labor is moving towards reversing that untenable position.

It is up to Prime Minister Tony Abbott to follow Labor's lead."

"Former NSW ICAC chief David Ipp has told the ABC it is ''so screamingly obvious that there is a breakdown in trust'' and that a federal ICAC is required."

I really have no idea where to post this, but for the past few years I have been very impressed with how vocal David Pocock is about his political views (probably helps that I agree with most of them).

For example, he's started a fantastic charity called 8020: http://www.eightytwentyvision.org/.

Also I heard that he used to cover up the logo on his boots because he refused to endorse sweatshops - I have such a man crush on him. Most definitely recommend following him on twitter, all round solid guy.
