I got there for the second half of Epping v Erindale which was before the first WS semi.

It was fairly even when I arrived if I recall correctly, but Erindale finished all over them. I think the final score was 39-14.

No doubt the other semi of the WC was on before that game.

@Monty Python or @Sideline Eye usually have a fairly good insight into the happenings at Epping BHS rugby. Hopefully they will be able to give the good oil on the final score, scorers, and ebb and flow of the game.

Twice in one season
"for want of a nail" springs to mind even if it is tenuous

Stannies lacked game breakers to put Oakhill away at the beginning of the match when they had the vibe.

It was a close run thing and any number of incidents could have tipped the scale.

It may have been karma. I took a photo burst of the Brae Roebuck try for Stannies and he dropped the ball cold. I was behind the dead-ball line.

The ref, who is an excellent referee, saw it from the side and obviously had a different view. The lad began to drop the ball in the photo I took for the blog and it got worse after that.

A great game of rugby though.

Yep, can give a brief update. Didn't make it there sadly, but can report that Epping Boys High School made it to the grand final in both the State-wide Buchan Shield for NSW u/16 teams, and the State-wide Waratah Cup.

A great achievement for one State high school to make the finals in both competitions. Also of note, their U/16s are co-coached by an accomplished female rugby player in her own right, and teacher at the school, Ms Sarah Laman.

Quoted from the EBHS Facebook page:

"Congratulations to Ms Laman's and Mr Seddique Martin's Under 16's Buchan Shield boys - now into the Grand Final of the state after defeating Farrer Ag HS 26-12.

Also to Mr Seddique Martin's and Mr Bruce Jacob's Opens Waratah Cup squad advancing to the final after defeating Erindale College 44-14."

Final score 44-14 to EBHS.

And, Brisbane Waters def Merewether in the other semi-final, though I don't know what the score was. So, Epping Boys v Brisbane Waters in the final of the Waratah Cup.

Speaking of female rugby coaches, is Geoff Mould's daughter (Edit: Karen Moulds - I think) still coaching at Randwick Boys High School?

Congrats to Epping BHS and their connections. A sign for Woodies performance in Shute Shield Final tomorrow perhaps?

Also, heard the other day they have 75 boys playing rugby in their open grade competition with three full teams playing all year. A sign of their strength is that the 2nd XV plays in the first grade comp all year, but I believe they revert to second grade comp for the finals.

No professional training programs, scholarships or full time coaches, as far as I am aware, just a great culture of playing rugby with your mates and always turning up for a game no matter what the likely result. Sadly, the 1st XV had a number of forfeits during the season - and I understand the opposition often failed to front up after the Epping Boys 2nd XV had beaten their first grade side a week or so earlier ... No doubt just to avoid an embarrassing drubbing.

Brisbane Waters will be tough competition for Epping - they are physical and flashy, with the majority of their players being rugby league representatives. St Edward's College, Gosford took out the Central Coast region of the Coast to Country Cup, beating these guys in the semi-final (Eddies don't enter the Waratah Shield, unfortunately). The Eddies piggies dominated the rucks and starved their backs of ball, which I imagine Epping will do to ultimately get the win. (My prediction: Epping 30 - 21).

Best of luck, lads!

One more sleep
everyone seems to have been very polite coming up to this year's finals
Have the teams had a two week break. Will the break, extra study time and this weather combine to diminish the game quality
can anyone share time and place/days program

Foreshaw Park in Sylvania Waters is where they held it the past couple of years, but I seem to recall someone saying that it will be at TG Milner this year.

I hope so because Foreshaw was a mess after the Colts GF, and there has been plenty of rain since then, which would not have helped the playing surface to recover.

One of my usually reliable snouts tells me there was a schedule, but it all changed about half an hour ago due to the weather. I believe all of the following were going to be at TG Milner tomorrow:
Waratah Shield, Arthur Buchan Shield, Richard Shaw Shield, 15’s Girls Shield, Bryan Palmer Shield.
All I know is that:
- U16s Arthur Buchan Shield GF - Griffith High School v Epping Boys High School is now to be held at 9am on the Epping Boys High School main oval (about 1km away from TG Milner on Talavera Road)
- The Waratah Cup GF - Brisbane Waters Secondary College v Epping Boys High School is still at TG Milner at 1pm.
I don't know other times and venues.

I believe the Waratah Shield final is after the Cup, 2.45pm KO. At TG Milner.
However the on-going inclement weather may change this.
