@Pfitzy, we couldn't hear the lineout calls on the tele last night. :) Given up?

Too far away from the sideline while huddled against the rain.

Plus I was engaged in deep rugby discussion with the esteemed gentlemen to my right (Lee Grant and Lindommer) while wearing an awesome hat. They're tough to keep up with given they've got about a century of rugby watching between them ;)

The Scarlet Pimpernel?

Given his age: the Scarlet Pimply-nel.

Have to agree with you about Lewis and Windsor , both had outstanding games. Just wondering why there are not in the Brumbies program??Both lads have had a great start to the NRC.

Windsor just came back from playing in Ireland I think

Angus Holmes, the Shute Shield Player of the Year didn't compare with Sam Windsor
Chubb , named in the Shute Shield team of the year as loose head , out played by Mitchell Lewis.
Maybe the 2 boys from the ACT are looking at higher rep duties next season.

007 - I'm really confused with the selections - just don't follow;
  • Hingano - was running with the Next Gen Waratahs at the beginning of the year - had a strong Shute season with an injury that sidelined him at the back end.
  • Porecki - he equaled Roach in that semi against Eastwood, played a very strong 60 minutes against the Rising Super 15 team. Has has good form all season.
  • Lucas - he played half the Shute season before hurting his knee and made the list for the Catchpole, played well against the rising.
  • 5/8th Angus has been caught wanting - not sure there.
  • Back 3 - did the Tah's retain Crawford for any reason, it'd be nice playing a player that'll be running around next season - BJ for mine. Plus Northam, and the Third maybe that fijian from the Rats?

My Mistake Hamish Angus Shute shield player of the year Sorry folks

Nothing to be sorry about - he was outplayed by Sam Windsor: he was the big surprise for me last night.

Windsor is supposed to have played for Leinster but I never saw him play for them, or can't remember. Is he the same Sam Windsor who played a few games for Eastern Suburbs and kicked the droppie to end the winning streak of Manly?

If so, he certainly gets around, because he has played in the ACT comp. Regardless, it's good to have a mature player like that in the NRC putting his hand up for a Super Rugby spot.

There's a few Super Rugby outfits that could use him as a backup.

[Edit - you meant sorry about using the wrong name - we all do that mate.]

@Lee Grant, According to Foxtel call last night this is the potted CV of the Windsor lad.

Hails from Bungendore apparently. Played Queanbeyan Whites before heading off to Blackheath for a season or two. Then back to Leinster (I think) for some more wet weather football experience. Now operating out of Woollahra oval with the Beasts.

Shute Shield Website confirms that he kicked a droppie (and scored some meat) for the Beasties in the game that ended the MMM run.

As far as I am aware played 2013 with Queanbeyan, then went to Ireland to play predominately with an AIL club (Semi Pro, behind there Rabo pro12 comp) but was picked up from strong performances there to have a run with Leinster A in the British & Irish cup, which they won. He then finished this season with Easts in Syd where he had played previously.

One of last club games I watched in Canberra the midfield for Queanbeyan was 9. Nic White, 10. Sam Windsor and 12. Robbie Coleman, pretty handy.

Could and should be a bolter to maybe replace McCabe at Brumbies. I know Windsor has played a bit of 12 and 15 also. Think it might be out of him and Rodney Iona, who is making his comeback from injury off the bench for Canberra Vikings this weekend.

Who knows what the coach's are thinking, Our opinions would only be attacked suggesting the obvious.

That one club is stronger than others - everyone knows I'm one eyed any way but still try to be judgemental. I'm not just looking at player quality, I'm also monitoring the age of players as well - there needs to be some balance.

I.e. the 91 world cup Wallabies had spring chickens like Little & Horan, and also had some youth up front but there was some hard heads who'd been around awhile as well.

007 - I'm really confused with the selections

This was to be expected in the first year with the NSW teams, which are independent and nobody, or no body, over-seeing the selections.

In the medium term, with each of the NSW teams operating in their own self-interests, players will come and go and most good players will get a shot though they may miss out in the first year.

Later on, as the virtual market place operates with its unseen hand, we should have fewer gripes about good players missing out.

I noticed from my programme that they had a curtain-raiser with the Emerging Rays playing against NSW Colts.

I know nearly all of the NSW Colts in the starting team and those fellows were at school last year and are therefore Under 19s now. The Colts players are probably candidates for the NSW Under 20s next year.

It's a great idea to be trying next year's Under 20s out already and I hope that the other states can do the same kind of thing. Maybe they are.

I wished that I knew this game was on because I would have got there early.

Alex Northam played for the Emerging Rays in that game as did Rory O'Connor. I also noticed the name of Harry Rorke who went to league after representing Oz Schools in 2012. It's good to have this lad back in Union if it is the same Harry Rorke.

For the NSW U 19s (in effect) Cameron Orr, Josh Anderson, Nick Kellaway (non-identical twin of the Red Devil) played—as did current schoolboys James Wilkinson and the inimitable Lukhan Lealaiauloco-Tai (the ground announcer's nightmare) who play their weekly rugby outside of the major rugby schools' associations.

I would have expected Ned Hanigan to be in such a side but what do I know?

Your slipping - i had mentioned it on one of the threads during the week, they are playing before each home game and last i heard still trying to line up an opposition for the last game.

I missed that - so which home games are they playing curtain-raisers for?

Each game in Sydney - or what?

I think that fullback is AKs best position (and Harry Jones's also) but as is the case with most gun school fullbacks, it is always better to start them on the wing in senior rugby.
.

Wasn't impressed at all with his effort at fullback in the U20s. Best player on the field when playing wing (or equal with Brad Lacy - two very fine wing prospects). Why change?

Although he was injured at the start of the season, I do know that Rorke returned for Gordon 1st Colts just over halfway through the season, and might have played some level of grade there as well.

Having seen him around the traps I thought that he looked a bit out of shape, but a friend of mine (who plays for North 1sts) said that in his return game he was "the most physical player [he] had ever played against".

Apparently the knocked the Norths prop out cold with a tackle.

Good to have him back.

Don't judge an 18 year-old on one Under 20 game if you haven't seen him play there against his contemporaries as others have week after week when he was at school a year ago - and the two years before that against older players.

He is playing in the right spot now but I think you will be pleased how he plays at fullback once he finds his feet in senior rugby.

Watch this space.
