Hate to act as a rumour mill, but Also, another big shake up! They're importing a coach from overseas, rumour has it he debated for Lithuania at worlds, the reason they told me this is they're really pissed that the new firsts coach will be an overseas import and not one of them, with Elle's retirement and all.

Hopefully he can improve the quality of your banter.

Big congratulations to SCEGGS, who've won the Archdale comp!

Whoops, forgot to post that. Was too busy living large post-debate.

Just a reminder that tomorrow night is the first round of reps debating with GPS going up against CAS and Archdale going up against CHS. Any predictions? I'm predicting GPS and Archdale dominance tomorrow.

Hardly surprising considering your allegiances Wolfey, but I think (no pun intended) that the debates might be a little closer than you anticipate. Obviously GPS and Archdale will be hard to beat, as they each have 2 members of the state team, but CHS and CAS are by no means pushovers.
I look forward to some great debates.

Although to be fair Sam Wallace, you should be weeping for the future of gps debating at newington, with your seconds coming away with a stellar two wins, and a thirds coming away with an admirable two wins also.

Hey guys,
just to let you all know, not only (I've confirmed with Grammar coaches), is Robert Loughley being moved up to 1sts ISDA next year, but I've been hearing some rumours about major shake ups within the team structure, involving a seconds Year 11 debater potentially moving up to Grammar debating captain, and one of the three (they wouldn't tell me who) thirds debaters speaking 2nd for 1sts ISDA. This would certainly be an interesting team, a wonder what people think about it? I've heard rumours its Grammar's biggest surprise, and will be a badass team. What do you think Wolfey? (You go to Grammar right?)

Speaking of a shakeup at Grammar, I was talking to a parent about a shakeup at Joeys, I saw their seconds debate in ISDA (ended up coming 4th or 5th anyone know?) And they have good speakers in Renshaw and McDonald, very aggressive styles. Pope who spoke when I adjudicated one of their Firsts debates in GPS was quite impressive. Given their strong year 11 cohort they are running training camps and have got a former worlds coach to run weekly sessions, would like to know if anyone else has heard about this

Hey fellas, I was curious as to what proportion of people are members of political organisations. I'm a young liberal myself

I never debated.
I am horrified to think that a debate at any level might be adjudicated by someone who thinks they adjudicatored that debate.
So not only do I think but I hope this is yet more trolling.

Have CHS and ARCHDALE teams and names been released yet?
Have they debated each other yet? If so anyone know the result??

I hear James Stratton was expelled during the annual Champagne Breakfast to mark the Grammar boys' last day of school. Apparently, halfway across the harbour bridge, he unloaded a bottle of passion pop into a police officer's face whilst yelling 'who said you couldn't introduce new material at third.'

Unclear what this means for the competition but there are rumours the GPS may retrospectively strip Grammar of the Premiership.

"Here's to Stratton he's true blue!
He's a piss pot through and through.
He's a bastard so they say, and he's not going to heaven, he went the other way!
He's going down, down, down, down, down, down, down!
Sip. Sip. Sip"

Hi All,

I heard some badmouthing about my school about GPS topics this year. Decided to get out Excel and correct a few misperceptions: thought I'd share my results here.

'That major sports club decisions should be subjected to a vote of members who are fans' - Affirmative won 33%

'That we should legalise the buying and selling of human organs' - Affirmative won 50%

'That university fees should be deregulated' - Affirmative won 33%

'That all defendants should have to use a publicly funded lawyer' - Affirmative won 67%

'That charities should not use of social media to inform Western audiences about global events' -Affirmative won 2 from 9 (High/Scots rescheduled. Topic/winners for this?) - 22%

'That there should be recall elections for politicians who break nominated promises' - Affirmative won 25%

'That the West should give a defence guarantee to Ukraine and Eastern European states against further annexation/invasion' - Affirmative won 75%

Overall, this means that 36 out of 81 affirmatives won by my count. The only real shocker seems to be that the R7 topic gave such a strong Affirmative weighting - we had figured the opposite would be true. Not sure how these compare to typical results though - 36/81 has Affirmatives winning a bit less than 45%. It doesn't seem like it would be too hard to get that figure up to the 50 mark over the course of the season. Has anyone done a similar exercise for other years/comps?

Cheers.
Wes.
