Predictable reply. You're easily pleased.

Hahah yeah I am, sorry for being predictable! I saw a great wallabies try scored from back on our own 22. I saw willing intent to play the ball despite rain pissing down the entire game. I saw a game that the Wallabies of yesteryear would've lost. I saw our forwards actually front up and a halve pairing that clicked.

Once again apologies for being happy when we win, I'll try to be more dour in the future.

Really? Giteau played there in mid 2000s and gunned it. It was only when he went to 10 that he went South. Horan was a fly half conversion too, and like Godwin couldn't play 10 once he moved.

No he didn't. He played well between Larkham and Mortlock and otherwise was the same flavour of mediocre that we've seen with every other implementation since. He played a lot of tests but was never part of anything more successful than what we have going at the moment.

In hindsight I think we were going to run away with the game, the team got complacent, Link subbed on the bench and it all went pear shaped..

but we have now won 9 of our last 11 I think and the only scars on that record are against the darkness..twice

And in those 9 are Italy, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Argentina and a mid-year French side - sides that Australia traditionally defeat far more than lose.

As was the case under Deans and even Knuckles, the level of play remains a concern for the Wallabies. The tactics aren't sound and some players still aren't sure what to do at this level.

For example when Foley made that line break late in the game, it just didn't seem that he knew what to do thereafter. I'm not saying he's never made a break before at Super level and make good things happen, but either the pressure got to him or he was lacking in the decision making - so what resulted was a speculator pass to the first support player in sight.

Bad pass, knock on and momentum lost.

Some might think that's just poor execution and happens all the time, but I think there have been a host of examples where things have looked a little directionless this year and last.

My 7 year old daughter, who had watched most of the game, went away towards the end and came back into the lounge room with the game over, She asked me sheepishly, 'Who won?' I guess she couldn't tell from my glum face.
I should be ecstatic with a win but that miserable second half left me feeling hollow.
How can the first half be so good and the second half so bad? What did Link say at halftime? Were we just too arrogant, thinking we had the game won already at halftime. I can understand the thinking and it probably should have been a bonus point win, but you still have to turn up and play.
Why can't Australia be more consistent? They can never string two good halves together. It's either a poor first half and a decent second half with a strong finish, or a great first half (like tonight) and a shitty second half.

More lack of consistency: Last week the reserves brought a lot to the game. Tonight they added nothing. Was the extra 10 minutes just too much for them? No consistency and until they get over that hill they'll never compete with the All Blacks.
The Pumas reserves completely out-thought and out-played our blokes.
I watched James Horwill closely and he was all at sea and has certainly lost his Mojo. He has become a real plodder. I think Big Willy or Neville would offer much more.
I like Pek Cowan at Super Rugby level but I'm not sure if he has what it takes at International level (though I have never played in the front row so I don't know if he is to blame). I can't understand why Toby Smith has never been given a go at loose-head...is it because of his recent Kiwi connections?
Gigglebum did nothing and made it worse when he spilled that ball from Foley. Not a great pass but certainly catch-able. KB (Kurtley Beale) did nothing.

Israel Folau is a gifted, brilliant athlete...but he still has a lot to learn about rugby.

I enjoyed the first half. Yes, they blew some tries, but at least they were having a good crack. Foley blew one when he hogged it as Horne would have had an easy flop over the line. Maybe they were getting white line fever. They seemed spread and flat. No-one was coming from deep, or back on the angle....and that is not really difficult stuff to do. I expect better from this level...but an enjoyable half. Great scrummaging too. Well done to the first half front row. Kepu was sublime. I think it's the best game I've seen him play.

Well done to the Argies too. If not for a pedantic free kick at the death they may have stolen their first 4 Nations (or whatever it's called) win.

I'll echo the mood here and say that it's not often that I feel a bit deflated after we win, but I do tonight. How we can have the game by the throat and let it slip is beyond me. We were up by 16 and should have really hit the afterburners at that point, but we got lazy and lost all our momentum. We're going to need to be better than that in the next couple of games.

A bizarre game I thought tonight. The Wallabies looked in complete control throughout but in the end Argies were unlucky not to snatch a draw. Our forward play, particularly that of Rob Simmons stepped up markedly - thought Ben McCalman had his best game in gold since his barnstorming debut all those years ago.

The one question I kept asking throughout though is what has happened to ensemble play in Australian rugby sides? Too much one out running, ball hogging (though I thought Foley did the right thing not passing it to Horne as the pass would most likely have been forward due to the flatness of Horne's support play) and poor passing. Why the incessant desire to throw the cut-out pass when 9 times out of 10 it doesn't pay off and simply going through the hands is a better (and safer) option? Is anyone else beginning to have doubts about Jim McKay's contribution - perhaps the success at the Reds early in Link's tenure was due to a hangover from the Mooney days moreso than what McKay brought in?

Why do i always feel like a deflated balloon after watching the Wallabies play?

Because the carbonated beverage you consume fills you with gas, which is then expelled through a constriction at your lower end causing you to bounce off the walls with a ppfffttt like sound?

Was at the game.. And thought we would always win.. But last scrum penalty..hmm.. I'll say this.. Rob Simmions was the only one out in the crowd.. Till I yelled at Fardy..Take a photo with the kids mate...

For some reason after Nic White was running 50's.. Then took photos..

i was also at the game. re the last scrum the wallabies orginally had the put in and the pumas drove forward before the ball went in. should have been a free kick to the wallabies on the initial scrum.

Fuck me this thread is depressing. We beat them! And we scored tries doing so, albeit with dropped ball in what was very slippery weather.

I don't really think we learned much more from tonight's game. We have a satisfactory, but not electric 10, and are lacking true fire power in the back row (fuck me we could do with a vermulen or read), but ultimately we beat the argies who have given both the ABs and the Boks a run for their money (would've been a much closer game last week if it wasnt for that bullshit chargedown call so im saying they were far closer than the scoreboard reflected).

Heads up lads, the only game we've lost this year was against the no.1 ranked team in the world, we're doing alright.

I couldn't see the call that well but to me I felt let down it wasn't a contest.. But I'll trust you that it was the right call
