Guys
I think a number of people here are missing what is being discussed.

They are looking at moving to class groups as the defining DATE range.

Rather than the current policy where under 11 is all boys born between 1 Jan 2003 and 31 Dec 2003 playing together as Under 11, which crosses over year 5 and year 6, they are going to move to grade 5 as the term and all boys born between July 1 2003 and Jun 30 2004 will be eligible – all boys born outside this range will be required to play up or down depending on their birthday.

The age difference between the boys playing will NOT change.

A very sensible approach in my opinion, all forced by the change in dates for the school years.

BAG.

Good luck Aussie schoolboys and welcome Tongan Thor

Good choice for all ages groups Yates!

U14s - I would have included No.6 (Wood) and 12 (Soli) from NC as well. These 3 (including the No.8) ripped the opposition apart.

Lol at your awards .
U13 correct
U14 tau tau NO . Xavier soli and tom ford, Joe small are the best players
U15 did Bshs win this comp their forwards dominated and. 12 was outstanding at times GT LUCAS yes . Best player is TGS 13 in the comp
Rest of your choices are fair, we all have opinions. . Lol

U14 - Tautau YES!, dominated both at schoolboys, club and states at No.8. Little bird told me actually plays in the centres, so watch this space for 2015? Definitely Soli as well.

I'd love to hear how anyone knows Jason Gilmore's salary, it doesn't strike me as the kind of thing the school or he would want publicly thrown around

Third, I hear Harley Fox has been named as Australian Schoolboys Captain for this year. An interesting choice, because lots had assumed Angus Crichton would be the starting number 8. Congratulations to him!

Reece Hewat called up Sunday night, flew out yesterday - maybe taking Angus' position leaving Fox as the next in line for Captain?

Just had a look at the touring squad, I see Tuaina Tualima has been called up as well as Hewat.

I had no idea Crichton was hurt (I assume that's why he hasn't been named)

Alex Mafi
Izack Rodda
Richie Asiata
Shambeckler Vui
Gavin Luka
Reece Hewat
Tuaina Tualima
Harley Fox
Izaia Perese
Joey Fittock

Interesting that Izack Rodda was left out of the touring side, there aren't many locks in that squad but a lot of loose forwards. I don't think he's injured, either.. Hewat will probably be in there as second row cover if not a starter.

I went over the squad, building from Hugh Jarse's work to pick a revised Aus Schools XV

1. Gavin LUKA — St Joseph’s Nudgee College QLD 1
2. Ed CRAIG — Epping Boys’ High School NSW 1
3. Vunipola FIFITA — Newington College NSW 1
4. Andrew VATUVEI — Sarah Redfern High School NSW 1
5. Tom BLAKE — Marcellin College VIC
6. Hugh SUMMERHAYES — Cranbrook School NSW 1
7. Connor MORONEY — SJC Gregory Terrace QLD 1
8. Harley FOX — Anglican Church Grammar School QLD 1 (C)
9. Harrison GODDARD — Oakhill College NSW 1
10.Connor O’SHEA — Saint Joseph’s College NSW 1
11.Ah-mu TUIMALEALI'IFANO — Roxburgh College VIC
12.Sione TUIPULOTU — St. Kevin’s College VIC
13.Izaia PERESE — Anglican Church Grammar School QLD
14.Joey FITTOCK — The Southport School QLD 1
15.Jordan FULIVAI — St Francis Xavier College ACT

16.Evan PRITCHARD St Ignatius’ College NSW II
17.Shambeckler VUI — Ipswich Grammar School QLD 1
18.Phil BRADFORD — Hunter Sports High School NSW 1
19.Reece HEWAT — St Joseph's Nudgee College QLD 1
20.Tuaina TUALIMA — Brisbane State High School QLD 1
21.Nicholas DUFFY — St Joseph’s College, Hunters Hill NSW 2

@The King, My revised team is up on the Aust Schoolboys thread.

I don't thiink that Blake from Vic has the necessary physical mongrel to start in the second row. I'd take Hewat as the starting 5, with Blake on the bench.

There will be various combinations tested in the two "warm up games" against Fiji Schools and NZ Barbarians.

Part 2 - 2014 Wobble Wrap - The Rest

Equal 5th - Ippy Grammar
These guys ran out of steam quicker than a schoolie on Day 3, after their 40th Bacardi Breezer. Many who watched their earlier games thought they would do better than where they finished. With Arguably the biggest pack in the competition you would think sanity would suggest a "truck it up" approach. Whilst it worked for a while, they often gave it away in matches. In fact in most games it looked like they had the attention span of Alfie Langer on a night at the dish-lickers, surrounded by TAB TV screens. A 50 point loss to BBC in the last game was a bit like the last episode of The Bachelor - someone was getting pumped but no one was watching the bloody show anymore! Some good players graced the red and white this year and a few of them might be talked about at higher levels in years to come, but mid table next year looks about them.

Equal 5th - Toowoomba Grammar
These guys started the season hosing down the news of the biggest Handbag Scandal since Chris Masoe broke down in tears after Tana Umaga beat him up with the handbag of a Rotarua stripper. (not sure what would have been uglier - Masoe in tears and bruises or the stripper!). That said they recovered well. This was a team of "no-names" that took it to the shiny guys of the GPS, including the eventual premiers. TGS were bigger underdogs than Des Hasler thinks the Bulldogs were when they played the Dapto Under 7s! Credit to the Mountain Men for their spirit and passion. See you about mid table next year, unless they find a half-brother of Jonah Placid milking a cow on Ruthven Street in the cricket season.

Equal 5th - State High
Not many people (outside a game of touch at Sonny Bill Williams house on Christmas Day), get to see a team play in thongs and flat caps. But if you saw a High Game this year you saw something special! But in all seriousness this team should be applauded they showed more ticker than Wallace Bishop and there was some serious skill out wide. They were coached to chance their arm and that is what they did. Some more fancied opponents were outplayed and outsmarted by this fleet-footed group and my mail says State High will finish higher up the food chain next year. Speaking of food, lets hope they sort that tuck shop out for next season. Some of the used by stamps on the meat pies in there pre-date WW11.

8 - Gregory Terrace
Although now a clear 1st in the grandstand stakes, their rugby just didn't match up. That said in parts of certain games these guys looked as good as any team. They had quality players in key positions and their share of imported talent. However, they couldn't get the result most of the sleeveless parka, red hat wearing GT parents thought they deserved. They did however beat Grammar and their import tuck-shop mums from the term 3 Thursday Roster.

9 - BGS
Gotta say I feel sorrier for these guys than Tony Abbott's budgie smugglers. This season must have felt like it was longer than plane flight sitting next to Clive Palmer in an economy seat. And I'm not sure what would have been more uncomfortable. With a coaching staff better than most NRC clubs it just goes to show you need the cattle to make an impression in this competition. I hope the dark blue, light blue get a better result next year, but it's hard to see them offloading the spoon, unless they replace a few Maths Scholarships with a footy scholarship or too.

Please note - no gerbils were harmed in the making of this post and The above is all in fun...I admire any lad that plays First XV for his school and all the games I saw this year were of an amazing standard. Thanks to all for another great season and I look forward to more next year!

For those of you who know of Tiaan Wilkins from BBC last year he has just signed with the Warriors
Thought he was already signed with the Storm when he was at BBC.
What happened with that?
Good luck to him a very talented player pity he couldn't settle in oz away from his girlfriend for 2 years.
But young men and their girlfriends can be a help or not.
Plus I believe he missed his mum even after his dad had moved to Brisbane to give him support.
He will do well in the NRL in NZ.

But have not Churchie just done a better job at preparing a 1st xv than every other school? .

Have they not just taken things to a higher level?(cf) Scots in Sydney.

Good luck to them.I think you will find many of the 1sts basketball coaches are in the same position-for less money -of course.
There is no way Tommie Barker will get out of grade 9 /SOS &English(nor -I -suspect- would he want to.)

He was signed with the Storm but from what Im told he had issues at BBC not being allowed to play league.Dont know how true that is but.
I was only speaking to a guy I know recently tied in with Storm development and they let him go as there were issues with wanting to be back in NZ.
He played in the same CC Easts team as KP.KP was fullback and TW in the centres.Same team also had Stowers & Pritchard who were at NC last year as well.

Just weighing in on the age debate.
Reece Hewat, who is entering in to yr12 next year turning 17 years old and is completing a 3 year senior. This means that in his final year he will be turning 19 in what could be his 3rd year as captain.
Is the rule that you must not be 19 to play opens rugby?
I suppose it depends on his birthday

Current rule is a student is not eligible to compete if they are turning 19 at any time in that calendar year.

It used to be many many years ago that you could compete up until the 19th birthday. I remember playing against one guy in rugby who celebrated it as his last school match as was turning 19 the next day.

Don't forget Curtis Browning made the BSHS First XV at age 15.
and was in the Australian schoolboys team for three years (2009 - 2011).
No one questioned his eligibility. 4 years in Firsts (2008 - 2011)
Awesome rugby player and school captain.

Reece Hewat will be completing a two year senior; just like Alex Mafi did this year(2014).
Hewat will be 18 (U/19) when he finishes year 12 (2016).
4 years in the First XV (2013 - 2016)

I remember a few years ago, a certain Papuan New Guinean lad who had already turned 19 in his final year at Nudgee and therefore not eligible for First XV.
He ended up playing Second XV.
No rules were broken.

And that is why NC and TSS will always be at the top . They will always have more 18 years because so many more boys at those schools do senior over 2 years -.its not unusual at those schools - many boys at those schools see rugby as a future profession.
It is unusual at the other GPS schools for this to happen.
Good luck to them . I don't want to weigh into the balance between sport and OP scores ;but there is a direct correlation.
Each school must find there own balance- and there is no point criticising what that balance is.

I hope.Reece finishes in 2015 as he was in the NSW U15 team in 2012 which would make him U19 in 2016

My source also tells me Reece will be turning 19 in 2016. That is why he would be in u19. If he was turning 18, then he would be still eligible to play in an u18 comp.
