Heard he's made the move to play Hooker at Easts. Funny Harvey and Ma'a have both played for Parra and Gordon. Is Tobias Next haha..

If he's moved there to play hooker I'd assume Lala Lam won't be returning to Easts? Although a lot of people have speculated he will play in the John I Dent next year due to his Canberra NRC involvement as far as I am aware he is yet to align with a Canberra club.

The Uni of Canberra Vikings website has his club listed as Queanbeyan Whites.

Sounds like Easts should change their name to East / West if the rumours about players moving there from Penrith and Parra are correct ;)

Did Randwick consider a name change after they recruited guys like Toa Asa, Richard Aho, Junior Tavilli, Alfred Pinomi, etc from out west, let alone blokes from Norths?

Wicks seem to do OK at Junior State Championships (in most of the younger age groups), generally dropping off at U13's and above. Which suggests that there is sufficient home grown talent within the Junior Village Clubs within their traditional borders provided it was nurtured and developed. Perhaps the Randwick Academy, which started 2 or 3 (?) years ago, will address this, and they can start to develop their own brand from within instead of relying on 35+ Colts scholarships and also "doing a Uni" on the Australian Schoolboys for their Colts talent.

While Rugby is in the professional era and results count even at semi-pro and club level, there is still something a little dodgy about recruiting a team of rock stars from outside to maintain a "Brand".

Raiding all the talent from opponents does little to grow the game in the long term, and diminishes competition in the short term. This will reduce spectator, and sponsor interest in the medium term.

I agree with you Hugh, my posts were obviously tongue-in-cheek.

However, if you look at the movements of players each year it's obvious that virtually ALL clubs receive players from other Sydney clubs and vice versa. As has been mentioned many times in posts players change clubs for a whole variety of reasons, and this will never change. I have no inside knowledge of whether the Wicks actively recruit players from other clubs or whether the players make the decision themselves. It would be nice to think that all clubs were able and willing to develop players from their juniors, through Colts to Grade, but the reality is that because of population demographics, finances, and a whole lot of other reasons some clubs will always be more successful at this than others.

Unfortunately I can't see anything that it going to stop the annual migration of players from Penrith to other Sydney clubs.

@The Coach, I reckon it is more the players (and their managers/parents) who decide about moving clubs, rather than the Clubs themselves actively recruiting. This is probably more evident for the aspirational players rather than the rock stars.

While it is good to have risk stars on your books as a Club, they are of limited use for Shute Shield games due to the overlap of Wallaby and Super Rugby contractual duties and recovery requirements.

Clubs probably target positions to recruit players into, rather than specific players themselves, based on an analysis of weaknesses in their current roster. The challenge is to target the future Rock Star and use them for a couple of seasons before losing them to the big show, or the honest toiler who will simply perform like a diesel engine providing good leadership and mentoring to the up and comers.
