If your political radar is telling you that Turnbull is towards the left and that a female Daily Telegraph journalist is of the left because they praised Julia Gillard's misogyny speech, then you're going to consider just about everything left biased.

Supporters of some of the conservative commentators like Bolt and Jones claim everything is left biased. They fail to see that it is because they have positioned themselves so far to the right that almost everyone is more left leaning than they are.

You may be right correct re my radar BUT you haven't answered my main criticism - that the ABC in general and Q&A in particular are orientated to left-of-centre political thinking. The stacked panels are evidence not of my interpretations but of Q&A's bias in selecting progressives.

Maybe you need to question why more conservative journalists don't seek out the lower paid jobs at the ABC.

Instead, most of them want to have their soapbox to spout their opinions whether that is through a regular newspaper column or on their talkback radio show.

If you consider Tony Jones as being a lefty, you are going to consider every single Q&A panel as being stacked towards the left. The majority of people looking at Tony Jones over his long journalistic career would consider him as being as bi-partisan as they come.

Lower paid jobs? Chortle, cough!
Tony Jones $350,000 p.a.
Kerry O'Brien $365,00 in 2009-10
Leigh Sales $285,00 p.a.
Juanita Phillips $316,000 p.a.
Quentin Dempster $291,000 p.a.
Jon Faine $290,000
Yes, Jones and Bolt would earn more than the salaries above, but I guarantee there would be flood of conservatives queuing up for those amounts, especially if they were given the same latitude to be right-of-centre biased as most of those listed are allowed to use leftist ideology.
Tony Jones is bi-partisan. He gives equal time and importance to all ideas from both Labor and the Greens.

Please suggest some people you'd consider bi-partisan to give us an idea of who you think would be an appropriate replacement for Tony Jones.

Let's also remember that you consider Mark Scott a lefty despite the fact that he was appointed by a conservative government.

Yes, the highest profile ABC journalists are on very good salaries. I would also suggest that those salaries are substantially less than what the highest profile journalists and media personalities earn elsewhere.

All those ABC personalities have far less room to editorialise in their roles than most of the high profile conservative commentators.

When you're considering the moderates in the LNP as being left leaning, you're way to the right of centre.

ABC's "Media Watch" has been going since 1989. I challenge you to name one conservative presenter of MW in the intervening quarter of a century.
You won't be able to. The ABC only represents left-of-centre political thinking.

That's why Gerard Henderson gets so much airtime on Insiders Right?

How come John Hewson has such a large presence on The Drum? Kerri Chickeroski also.

As for Media Watch, they drag the ABC over the coals when they feel they have over reached also.

Well we get to disagree there, prime example is the ABC's Q&A on our muslim troubles.

Who was the muslim representatives? Any fire brand supporters of ISIS, any principles of the Muslim schools who are now being de-registered for not teaching their girls the curriculum, nah, a dozen Muslim women and academics explaining how they are being wronged. Now they may be the collateral damage, but they weren't the problem.

As for their audience, it is the latte sipping inner city green (ie the educated arts graduate living in an inner city suburb), have a look at their viewer demographics if you disagree.

Well, that's Q&A which personally I agree with you to some extent. (What was a bloody great concept has fallen adrift somewhat in my view to the Tony Jones ego hour) I am talking about the entire ABC and not specifically Q&A.

Don't forget that they are extremely arrogant enough to think they are the only ones worth having a point of view.

Token conservative numbers only. Always outnumbered and/or battling the host. Name ONE right-of-centre ABC host/presenter (other than Vanstone who gets one hour per week). And her show is called Counterpoint, just to emphasise the fact that her views are slightly more conservative than other presenters.
Media Watch's "hauling over the coals" of the ABC/leftists is limited.
Anything But Conservative.

Honestly mate this left v right bullshit is so hollow and distracting. Reducing 3 dimensional issues into left v right culture battles achieves nothing.

Can you really define what it is that is so left leaning on the ABC? And what is required to even it up?

Counterpoint has some good stuff, preaching to the converted of course, especially on free speech (a personal bug bear of mine)

although it is one of those strange issues that parts of the "right" and the "left" line up together against other parts of the "right" and the "left"

Andrew Bolt must read this blog because he answers your questions in today's column.Meanwhile who will ever forget Virginia Trioli's impartial comment ("he's mad" gesture) about the conservative Barnaby Joyce.

From Bolts Blog;

"Can he show any ABC TV show which has done to Gillard what recent ABC TV shows have done to Abbott"

The ABC did a whole satire show lampooning Julia and Tims relationship as well as Julia's reliance on the three independents. I believe there was scene where sex was portrayed under an Australian flag in the the Prime Ministers office.

The ABC has form on this that goes back forever. Max Gillies was merciless, John Clarke and Bryan Dawe have been throwing down for years so has anything DGen (working dog) have down as well as the Chaser. They've been lampooning both sides as they were in power.

He is correct in his criticism
more often than not the comedians just replay the clips of Mr A doing himself and laugh

for Gillard they had to get nicky minaj to don a wig and parody her before they found a laugh

Have a look at the criticism Abbott has received in the press around the world this year and compare that to Gillard when she was PM.

Maybe it's more to do with policy and less to do with left vs right.

Satire shows on the ABC do have a history of mocking whomever is in power. The news/opinion shows do not.
The Chris Kenny dog act from The Chasers has never been replicated against a progressive.
Mark Scott has never employed a conservative host of any show on the ABC. Not a clever choice by Howard!

Now that may be offensive or not dependingon your humour. It is atleast marked as comedy or satire.

When watching or listening to whole host of supposed unbiased hosts on current affairs that is different indeed.

Look at the sort of shows that the popular conservative hosts have in Australia.

Most of them are more about them than any particular issue or theme. Particularly in terms of the talkback radio hosts, their shows are often just soap boxes for them to argue their case.

Maybe part of it comes down to what sort of careers interest certain people.

Why are there so few conservatives in comedy or fine arts or acting?

Perhaps in Russia or East Ukraine or by various organs of the left outside Australia like the Guardian. Ask the Dutch what they think or the Canadians or Japanese?
